I'm messing around with Dragon Quest on my phone here and there, so I'm really hoping this is a big console release instead of a 3DS game. Not that a 3DS game would be terrible or anything, but I think after 9 and 10, the series could use a return to it's roots.

Knowing our luck though, it'll be a phone game where you can pay a dollar to grind Metal Slimes for an hour.

9 was a pretty big game and was the usual Dragon Quest experience. In fact, some of my problems with it were that some ideas were too close to its roots. Admittedly, the DS hardware made that game run much slower than it should have.

While I want a console release as well, the 3DS is a much more powerful beast than the DS was and has proven itself time and time again.

EDIT: The official announcement will be at 4 AM tomorrow and apparently the game will be an offline, home console release.

They confirmed last month that it will not be neither an online game nor a mobile game. The current rumor is.saying its for PS4, 3 and Vita. Same release strategy they're planning for Dragonquest Heroes 2.

BEETA, huh? I guess porting it over isn't that expensive then. Still, that's pretty neat, though Japan needs to hurry up and abandon the PS3 so the games aren't held back.

Pretty easy actually. Devs have been releasing the games multi plat for it for years. Falcom, Bamco, Koei Tecmo, among others tend to release everything for Vita x PS3 , and with PS4 starting to take off now they're releasing for all 3. Like with this, Atelier Sophie, etc.

Albeit the main reason for PS3 is because it just has such a massive IUB. Some devs have started to phase it out though. Architecture wise PS3 was just fucking retarded to work with, and creating a down graded version of a ps4 title such as with Xenoverse is taxing and often problematic.

But both Vita and PS4 are both a lot easier to program for, and are easier Cross platform with.

Speak of the devil, the new Spike Chun x TRI-ACE game is a PS4 x Vita title.

DQ XI for PS4 and 3DS. Ahahaha. You had me good, Horii.

Well, This should mean the PS4 version will SING, at the very least.

EDIT: it'll use Unreal Engine 4.

EDIT2: The PS4 version looks pretty slick in action!

EDIT3: 3DS verision is apparently its own thing, ala the DS/PS3 versions of Ni No Kuni.

Looks pretty nuts, too- polygonal graphics on the top screen, old school sprites on the bottom screen.

EDIT4: images / gameplay / details

EDIT5: apparently DQXI is coming out on Nintendo's upcoming NX console as well.

Both PS4 and NX will also see DQX (the MMO) ports.

PS4, NX, and 3DS?!

This is the BEST case scenario. The nailed the world beautifully. Even though it's not cell shading (at least I don't think it is), it feels like the equivalent of seeing DQ8 on the PS2. I also love how the 3DS version has both the classic DQ style and the 3D style at the same time.

Will buy for all three platforms for sure.

I'm so excited right now that Nintendo's longtime friendship with Horii and Sony's classic business finesse pulled through this time. As for Horii, the Enix side of SE always knew what it was doing, but this is them at their best, taking advantage of the three major gaming markets in Japan. I'm more hyped now than I was for the entirety of E3.

>NX

Welp, guess we have some idea of what the next Nintendo console will be capable of. Neat as hell, I'll play the PS4 one and actually try to beat the damned thing.

It's capable of, but probably not probably of since it'll just end up lacking real third party support like the WiiU, Wii, Gamecube, etc. Plus we don't know if it'll be on par with the PS4 version or not, it could end up just being it's own version like the 3DS one.

Nintendo would have to try really hard to make a console less powerful than the PS4. Technology keeps moving ahead and unless they bust out another second screen gimmick that eats the power, it should be on par with the competition.

But that's me being hopeful, even though a new console coming out in 201X should be a lot more powerful than what we have right now.

The NX will probably be as powerful as the XBone to be honest. According to the rumors, Nintendo's going for a console that's meant to be cheap (rumor has it that the price will be $150) but still powerful enough to hang with the modern generation. According to Miyamoto, the Wii U's developers wanted the console to be a lot less than $300 but the gamepad ended up making it cost much more than what they intended.

Yeah, thats generally whats floating around about it. A system affordable to the more casual and general populace,at least relatively close to current gen but not so advanced that the price soars. Which also relates to what other Zero said.

Yes the technology will have advanced, but that doesn't mean they'd use it. Mainly due to the possibility of it most likely sky rocketing the prices. Plus by then using tech and specs closer to the xbone will probably be cheaper and easier to obtain then it was for MS to use/produce at the the time.

While I hate the WiiU and Wii, I wouldn't mind the NX if they did at least three things.

-Region Free
-Full back wards compatability (Wii/WiiU games as well as the gamepad and etc)
-A proper online network infrastructure.

Actual third party support would be nice too.

Just to give an overview of all the Dragon Quest games announced during the past couple of weeks:

Dragon Quest VIII Remake - 3DS

Dragon Quest of the Stars - Mobile

Dragon Quest Battle Scanner - Arcade

Dragon Quest Builders - PS3, PS4, Vita

Dragon Quest Heroes II - PS3, PS4, Vita

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 - 3DS

Dragon Quest X Port - PS4, NX

Dragon Quest XI - 3DS, PS4, NX

Note that during the conference, they said that DQ11 will be coming out for sure for the NX, but then after the conference, suddenly said "considered for NX". I imagine that it's being made for the system, but perhaps they weren't supposed to announce it as official since Nintendo hasn't even shown off what the NX is as of yet and didn't want anyone to know what games were coming out for it until the unveiling. A slip, but one I am glad happened.
