Break only rules created by men, uphold only what is true and everlasting

A cool tidbit on Star Fox: There are multiple ways to defeat bosses, some creating different outcomes. For the first boss, if you shoot all of his parts off on the outside, he'll escape and say he'll get you next time. If you manage to fly inside of him, transform into land mode, and then destroy the core, the boss will die. I like that they're taking some of the older 64 ideas but are giving them whole new twists.

@Homeless: That could be bad for kickstarter's future for sure.

Now i'm a little annoyed.

However, I got a good laugh at the fact that he noticed Square Enix's translator fell asleep during the show.

It was pretty blatantly obvious that's what it was for. Did people think Sony would do such a big thing out of the goodness of their hearts?

We already knew the same thign from Igavania right near the start.

It was obvious that Sony was doing this because it favored them. It's an exclusive, they knew what would happen if they pitched it at E3 (immediate funding), and at the end of the day it would increase sales and generate hype. That was clear and I was okay with that. That Sony themselves may be helping fund the game? Yes, that was discernible and while less okay, I was willing to let it slide.

But the money isn't going to development of the game at all? That was not clear.

But it IS going towards development. Otherwise it'd been an outright lie and they could be sued for it.

Sony is only covering most of the development, they still need to fund other parts on their own, such as for the stretch goals, add ons, etc.

If Sony was 100% funding the project, they it would have been PS4 exclusive, but its not and also for PC. Same with No Mans Sky which Sony is rumored to also partially backing.

That's such a load of crap! The load of crap I was very much afraid would be the case >_<

Sure, most backers will get the game (if they didn't just throw in the usual low-tier support money), but that's a huge F U to fans and sets a bad precedent for those bigger publishers/developers to siphon more cash for "marketing"

They didn't say it outright, which is rather a dick move, but it should've been obvious the money was gonna go just to the stretch goals & rewards. Bloodstained was the same way.

Still, I can't say it bugs me too much. $30 for a PS4 game is a pretty good deal in my book, and presuming the gameplay is at least on par with the last two, I'm content. Hell, its why M#9 doesn't bug me much; it may not be great, but I only paid $15 for it, and I've paid more for worse.

I didn't mind with Yooka-Laylee because they said a month before the Kickstarter even began that they were fully funded and the entire thing was for extras.

Thinking about it, maybe it's the the amount of honesty and how up front you are that matters. You should know what you're paying into is probably i'm saying. All of this is so new to the gaming world and seems to be happening so fast that we barely have time to think about it

That's one of the points though: if they were upfront about it, fine.

It worries me because KS has been a pretty good platform for smaller studios. If the bigger guys are using it as a means to "add extras", there's potential for flooding the content there. Added to that is how DLC is treated these days - pre-freaking-purchase DLC for a game that hasn't released; "guaranteed Day One DLC", all that junk.

Now it's gonna be: "Hey! Support our KS for your DLC we're totally not planning to sell to you in the future anyway! What's that? You want polished graphics? Donate to reach our stretch goal for guaranteed 1080p60Hz"

I've always just sort of assumed every company is only telling half the truth any time they talk. At best, sometimes the lies end up being good things rather than bad ones.

At best Bossman. And I'm happy enough to hold an optimistic view most times, but this feels underhanded since the game itself already had a good amount of hype. There was no need to "guage interest", fans would have foamed at the mouth regardless.

Case in point, something like Starfighter Inc. (sadly, missed its goal by 25k, out of the 250k goal) - a big part of their campaign was to note that most of the money would go to developing art/assets for the game.

Like all kickstarters, to some degree, it's just pre-ordering a game. So it has all the normal issues that come with pre-ordering games, with the added bonus that you have no idea what the game will even look like when you're backing it most of the time. It's a huge risk on the player's end, but it can be a necessary evil if that's the only route a game will be made.

The big problem with these publisher backed Kickstarters is that they already have money to make the game, so they just found a way to get the pre-order sales up front. Even better is that they can get way more than usual out of some people. For example, most T-Shirt tiers are 150 (Shenmue's is 160) but the cost of a game and a shirt is around 80 dollars. 750 people bought into that tier so far, so that's an extra 60k in the bank. A problem with early kickstarters was that teams would offer little physical items as rewards, but that shit costs money to make, so they've mostly transitioned to digital items that are cheaper to produce and damn near free to distribute.

I'm not going to say it's the worst thing in the world or that people who buy into it are being dumb (I bought into Bloodstained!) but it's really exploitative. Especially as Sony, to trot a game that some people really wanted up onto an E3 Press Conference stage, try to say you aren't helping back it to get as much funding as possible, only to go back and admit that you are once you feel you got what you wanted.

After watching some gameplay, Star Fox seems alright. I hope there's a lot more to it than what was shown, but I think the transforming thing might be interesting.

That huge 40 minute MGSV demo stole the show though. The game seems really awesome, even if I've heard some reservations about the story, the gameplay looks so good that I'm not sure I care.

Phantom Pain was already a sell for me, and I can't wait to try MGO. My friends have all these stories about how the Metal Gear Solid 4 version of Metal Gear Online worked, and it sounded amazing.
