I'm sad for some reason Dragonar did so bad. It was a blatant ZnT copy but I thought it was kind of cute.

After watching and hearing how ZnT DIDN'T and CAN'T end, I wouldn't get near it either. (unless it was comical fan service)

Can't take another 50 episodes of worst girl winning while slutty princess tits, elf tits, and Tabitha all lose.

The Louise-like in Dragonar wasn't a tsundere bitch though.

Love Live sales is pretty much a joke. It's the number one most selling TV Anime ever (besides Evangelion)

I've watched the first episode of everything I plan to follow this summer, save P4 Golden which airs tomorrow.

So far that makes up of:

Aldnoah.Zero
Argevollen
Akame ga Kill
Free S2
Momo Kyun Sword
Rail Wars
Sailor Moon
Sengoku Basara S3
Tokyo Ghoul

The top 3 I feel after the first episode of all of them:

Aldnoah.Zero, Tokyo Ghoul, Akame ga Kill.

The show entertaining me the least so far probably being Sailor Moon - I'll probably like it more once better girls start joining the cast. Usagi's just a big derp and not very interesting. Otherwise, surprisingly good season! I'm surprised I found so much I enjoyed really, I expected little to nothing this summer.

I actually like Usagi quite a bit . . . but I don't start really liking her until after she's had a lot of character development. She remains pretty consistent with her laziness, but she gets a lot better over time. She's even pretty confident and powerful through the last couple arcs. So yeah, she falls flat to me in that first episode too.

I just watched Tokyo Ghoul episode two, and wow, every episode just feels like one long argument with the censors. It's really good, but they even had to make one scene fucking neon just to hide the blood and gore.

Adding Akame Ga Kill! to my watch list. First episode took a weird turn that amused me.

Was I the only one who saw that turn coming from a mile away? Its predictability, down to the minor details, are actually the reason I don't want to continue watching it.

Anyway, in other news Zankyou no Terror's opening credits is the first I'm hearing of it being directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. Apparently he's doing both this and Space Dandy at the same time somehow? I mean, to be far, he usually does one series with both serious and comedic elements. I guess it makes sense that if he's doing one show that's entirely comedic, he'd eventually have to let off steam by making a second one that's entirely serious. I just didn't expect it to happen while the first one is still airing!

Apparently you are because I didn't see it coming entirely and I found it a refreshing watch.

I'll wait to see what people say about later episodes at the very least then. My girlfriend liked it too, so I'm the only one I know who feels this way. XD

I didn't see it coming myself. I thought it'd just be the sweet story about the lonely rich girl with the heart of gold taking in this poor country bumpkin. Th

Okay, one more thing I don't like about Akame and then I'll shut up and let everyone else enjoy it. The first episode's twist aside, the show seems to be aiming for a dark, serious tone in the subject matter it tackles. There are some really terrible things happening in the capital, and some of it isn't even directly caused by a mustache . . . or in the last case pigtail-twirling villain. A great example is

Spoiler: click to toggle

The thing is, in between these scenes are some of the same generic kind of humor most anime use these days, where the tone immediate lightens to the point that it's hard to take seriously. There's also fanservice all over the place. It's not as obvious as something like Momo Kyun, but nearly every time there was a zoom in on the main character's face in episode two, someone with huge breasts was standing with their tits right next to his head.

I don't know, it created a kind of tonal whiplash for me, and the levity of the latter sections completely undermines the heavy nature of the former. I'm not saying a show covering stuff like that needs to be serious business all the time, but I just don't feel that it's handled well here.

Anyway, like I said, I'll shut up about it now. I just wanted to share my thoughts after giving the second episode a try.

I'll tell you now, as I have read the source material. The whiplashes should recede, except where you realize the characters would otherwise crack. Some arcs try to stay real serious, and even a character that seems like comic relief has serious reasons to be that way. Think like Armstrong's hamminess being because of a psychological trauma and it's his only way to deal.

Simply put, most of the cast have something wrong in the head. But that wrongness has purpose.

You raise a good point Final. I have a friend who can't get in to FMA thanks to the tonal shifts but I view it as one of the best shonen tales ever made. To each their own, not everyone can mentally balance that shit I guess.

The thing I'll say about Free is even if its K-On with boys it actually has more of its sport than the other had music.

Wow, the anime staff worked really hard to make that little girl cute. I still love the anime, but I think the manga's version of that scene was definitely more fun. Especially Ken's reaction face.

Really enjoying Barakamon and Nozaki, shame to see Tokyo Ghoul's adaptation being so terrible due to censorships and rushing.

I ended up with a lot of shows, honestly, although with another pet dying a few weeks ago I fell off the article bandwagon and didn't do reviews/impressions at the start of the season like usual. Of what I've continued with Nozaki really has been one of the best ones though, especially when watched back-to-back with Love Stage. The comedic adventures of a high school manga studio, compared to the comedic adventure of the worst wanna-be manga artist ever. It's pretty great. XD
