Capcom to be bought out?

Bamco is one of the top pics on 2ch. In the last few years they have been murdering the competition in earnings for the fiscal years. And they also have a history with crapcom.

Considering how Japanese companies operate, I would say there's a 99.999999% chance that Capcom will most likely end up in the hands of another Japanese company.

Also, on the subject of Bandai-Namco being big contenders, I would have to say that would be a hilarious situation. Capcom has become known for under-using certain of their IPs. Bandai-Namco is known for often overusing many of their products and pumping out game after game after game.

@Cyborg: Capcom's stock at this point only costs $17 a share. That's pitifully low for a company like Capcom. Famous companies typically debut on the market at that cost, not end up there. Majority hold over the company could be purchased for around 200 million.

So it's like Ovan said. Anyone at this point can afford it. It's just a matter of the potential risk involved. Will the acquisition end up having short term and long term benefits or will it ultimately be a loss of money?

Hmmm. That almost makes me wonder if any normal investors will jump in and make some money off this if someone manages to turn Capcom around.

Doubt a party not already conneced or apart of the gaming industry would. There's too many variables to deal with that require experience in the field.

Aside from expenses of just buying capcom, there's also the earlier mention debts that might be owed, bonuses they might need to be payed off to employees that were promised from capcom (Legally any contracts Capcom and promises capcom made should still be legally binding and fall upon the new owners to complete)

They'd also have to spend more money on trying to finish up the currently work in progress games that Capcom had started developing, continue to support the major titles such as Street fighter and others that have online services, Plus decide which of Capcoms in development plans the new owners would want to scrap.


Then there's the case of the old capcom employee staff and developers. The new owners would have to either hire them and add them to their payrolls, move them and integrate them into the new parent company, or just fire them. Assuming they can even keep them. Usually during these major company buyouts, many of the staff don't want to work for the new owners, and will either quit and apply for other devs, or join and or form their own new smaller development team/company. We've seen it happen many times before.

It's true. Often times when a company is bought, many people jump ship and the development group's name becomes just that - a name. Rare is probably the most popular example of this. Almost everyone from that group's golden era left and joined other studios.

Whatever may come, I do hope for the best so that each IP may somehow prosper better than before.

This is literally the only thing that matters when you buy a company tbh. No matter how potentially nice IPs and brands may be, the debt the company owes could be triple of what you spent to buy the company.

$17 a share? Damn, if only we had the money to sink $1 million into that kind of investment. I'd say a bunch of us that like good IPs would at least find decent partners who are willing to work things right.

I think though that earlier statements regarding some licenses being bought by Nintendo could be right if a takeover doesn't happen. Capcom might instead decide to sell IPs to improve their floundering financials. In terms of the most stable approach to a takeover, you'd see more of Nintendo buying a sizable percentage of the stock while another company like Bamco picks up the majority. This splits the burden of restructuring and overall monetary loss while allowing both companies to use the IPs intelligently. Plus, this would mean more exclusive SRW games for Nintendo. Possibly putting them on the eShop for international release.

As a business student, Mergers and Acquistions are kinda a big thing, I'm a management major and its not my specialty but like I said earlier, if anyone who wanted to buy out Capcom they'd first have to ask their Stockholders, if they agree to it they can then make an offer to Capcoms Board who then would have to ask their stockholders if they want to be bought out.

If they accepted, the company buying them out would then have to pay a premium along with the cost of buying them out. The Premium if I recall being related to paying out Capcom Stockholders, which essentially means whichever company, just gonna say Nintendo here, buys them. That means Nintendo just basically took on a bunch of debt.

There are plenty of ways to handle it, but on that quaterly/yearly financial statement they'd take a big hit to their income because of a purchase. Now if Nintendo in this situation could turn the company around, or just dissolve it and absorb their IPs into the main company It could be a viable thing for them but again, in the reality it probably wouldn't happen since Iwata needs to please his Stockholders first, before even thinking about making a move like that.

I think everyone likes the idea of Nintendo getting Mega Man, Viewtiful Joe, Bionic Commando, platformers in general.

No one wants Nintendo to have Street Fighter unless it turned into a world where Nintendo was not developing consoles anymore.

Amazon would be interesting.
