ExVS shouldn't really count. It's always going to just be an arcade and sony exclusive where as all the other real fighters are multi-platform. Plus full boost was a shitty port anyways. With clones, clones everywhere and $350 worth of on disk DLC. Maxi's port will probably be just as lazy. But whatever, in retrospect and all hate aside, Nintendo CAN'T buy capcom. They're not in the financial position to make this large of an acquisition after the WiiU's failure last year, and they're not really doing that much better this year. Not to mention that Iwata had promised investors profits of ¥1,000,000,000 at the end of the fiscal year . Buying capcom, all of it's assets, debts, and everything will a couple hundred millions. Then the full merger and take over will take at least a few months, and that's more money lost in the mean time as well. Then more money used up on restructuring capcom. Capcom is one of the largest and most well known brands in the industry since the start. Whoever buys them will never let that name die. It's too iconic.
Pretty much. Sony and MS while not in as bad a shape as Nintendo, need to prioritize their own investments before also making this huge of an acquisition. |

10 birrion in the bank bro or so I keep hearing. Plus Sony is losing money too although it's a generally simple fix. Playstation lost $78 million last year but it was mostly their TV department and PC divisions that were dragging ass AFAIK. And the 3DS still prints money. |

The nice thing about DLC is, you don't have to pay one thin dime for it if you don't want to. |

That's not issue. The issue is that they want you to pay for things that are already on the disc. Any other respectable franchises ADDS thing to their ported/console versions of their games. ExVS on the other hand removes things from the original, such as the Navi's, and then requires you to rebuy them if you want to use them even though they should have been a part of the game to begin with.
This. The work they put IN the game, ended up getting taken OUT of the console release. Also NONE of us who played it, can look anyone square in the eye and say that the Full Boost missions weren't the cheapest garbage out there. 99% of them were literally copy and pasted from ExVS. And they didn't up the difficulty enough to compensate for the added human partners. |

Yep. Sony also had to sell off a bunch of its buildings that it owned and rent them back to save money. On the flipside, Microsoft wants to sell off the Xbox division because it bleeds money. These companies are not in awesome shape. |

Nintendo, even with the Fiasco the WiiU has been is still the most finiancially secure, but what Zechs said about Nintendo buying out Capcom is true, that would HEAVILY hurt them, or more specifically Iwata's promises since the Buyout would cause Nintendo to take on a premium for them, which would cut into their promise as they have to back both sets of Stockholders for it. |

Yeah, if anyone could buy out all of Capcom, I could see it being Nintendo. Which would be utterly awesome... ...but it's also not likely for the above reasons. I at least hope Nintendo gets franchises like Megaman and Breath of Fire if Capcom is THQ'd, ones that have been neglected for a while and have often had a home with Nintendo. Definitely. Say what you will about them, but they're also one of the few sources of next-gen Japanese games these days. And they usually have more releases than the smaller, quirky companies like Platinum and Grasshopper. |

Indeed. It'd be a little odd to no longer have the House that Megaman built around. ...also, speaking of? Viewtiful Joe could go to Nintendo. I'd love that. |

Regardless of who buys it, there'll probably never be another Rockman game unless it's some cheap spin off. The franchise stopped being profitable ages ago, and capcom ignoring DASH 3 entirely was probably one of their better decisions. The last good series was Ryusei series, but even then that didn't sell too well so they've since then scrapped it. Not to mention, even though he wasn't that important in the actual games development outside of art, another company releasing rockman game without Inafune would probably be an issue with the old school fans. |

On the topic of friend chat, they announced at E3 that Splatoon will have voice chat at all times online. Nintendo may have been behind on Mario Kart, but they seem to be learning from their mistakes.
Except "nothing changes" is what rarely happens. We can go down the list of purchases of major devs or even just acquisition of IPs and see just how many of them changed dramatically when they were bought. And i'm not just talking about things changing for the worst once bought. I'm also talking about franchises receiving new entries once the developer has been bought as well. But if we're going to discuss the subject of bad things happening once dev teams were bought out, there's quite the list of them. Who can forget Rare going from one of the major players in the business to becoming a laughing stock after being purchased by Microsoft? Or Square-Enix's acquisition of IO Interactive which led to the creation of the worst Hitman game ever? Or the merger of Square and Enix to begin with and what that led to? All it takes is a small shift in the board of directors or a wrong change in senior developers to destroy a franchise. Just look at . . . umm . . . half the franchises that have had sequels made to them in the past 7 or so years.
I sort of alluded to this in my first post. It would be best if the dev teams or IPs could be purchased or even auctioned off. There are some games I would love for Street Fighter to go to a third party dev since i'd like to see the franchise back on a Nintendo console as well as Sony and Microsoft (SFIV did show up on the 3DS and Nintendo has strengthened its ties with Capcom as of late). But there's stuff such as Phoenix Wright, Monster Hunter, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe that I dare say Nintendo needs to completely acquire and I honestly believe that bringing the dev teams behind those games under complete Nintendo control would be a good thing. Sony and Microsoft can have their DmC and Resident Casual or whatever. I could care less. But the reason Nintendo consistently comes up is because Nintendo and Capcom's ties have become strong as of late which I alluded to earlier. Capcom is a Japanese company and cares most about its Japanese assets. And what Capcom games are currently most popular in Japan? Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright. Also, consider recently Nintendo worked out a deal with Capcom to release a slew of games onto the eShop. Also, Nintendo has been promoting Mega Man on the eShop and in Smash as well. It would not surprise me if Nintendo strengthened its relationship with Capcom in anticipation of its downfall and Capcom is prepared to make sure a select number of IPs and dev teams do make their way into Nintendo's hands.
a) While the Wii U did not do well and may have done even worse than initially expected, Nintendo still has the equivalent of billions in the bank. This is what is so often overlooked. b) Like BadBoiu said, the 3DS prints money. It's popularity is at its peak and it's practically the most popular system in Japan right now. c) Like I said, Capcom's stock is so low right now that it would only take about 200 million to take majority shares. That is chump change. A single AAA game is often made for that cost. Edited by RPGZero, Jun 17 2014, 08:26 AM.

The question then is if Nintendo really wants the entire company. Capcom has a lot of IPs, and always seems to have their hand in just about everything. Do they want to take the work to rein that all in and make it profitable? I don't know, if I had to compare it to DnD monsters, Microsoft is a two-faced Ettin, Sony is a dragon, Nintendo is a unicorn, and Capcom is a gibbering mouther. I don't think a unicorn would want to hang out with a gibbering mouther, even if they miss some of the guys it devoured. |

Excusing the big three from the discussion, Activision and EA have got to be contenders. But as a Japanese company, I kinda wonder if someone like Bandai Namco would be in a better position make a go of it. |
