Capcom to be bought out?

Break only rules created by men, uphold only what is true and everlasting

Apparently, along with not having much money (which was announced about a year ago), Capcom now has a stock that's fallen to a rather cheap price. It's apparently so cheap that you could buy up a majority of the company's shares for only about 200 million. While that sounds steep, consider the fact that AAA games often only cost that much to develop. Whoever does it, I hope they clear house on the board of directors when they do and make the best use of Capcom's IPs.

As strange as it sounds, we may be entering into an era where Capcom is no longer an independent developer and becomes a subsidiary of another company or even may become a "second party" developer. As sad as these days may be for Capcom, this just may be the better route for the company as opposed to an inevitable going out with a whimper.

Though, if I had to be honest, i'd love it if various companies found a way to bid on certain franchises and divide Capcom's assets and development teams.

Read about it earlier and the majority of responses I heard was either Nintendo eats it up or it gets ripped to shreds ala THQ.

Best Case Scenario: Sony buys it all.

Worst Case: Nintendo. Mainly because capcom is one of the biggest names in the fighting game genre right now, and fighters would never work on WiiU, nor would anyone ever want to play them using the WhyPad.

More than likely case: They get bought buy another third party like every other major dev that needed to be saved and nothing changes.

Also line space.

Also it's not just as simple of a thing to buy Capcom and get the rights to everything they made and own. Many of Capcoms games are rightfully the property of other parties. One example of a similar event is what happened to Atlus. Sega or whoever bought Atlus, and got much of the Persona rights, however, despite the change, Ark System Works still fully owns the rights to the Persona 4 Arena franchise. And if they got the rights to use whatever they wanted from the past games before Atlus was bought out, those rights, licenses, contracts, etc all still apply

Also another space just because.

Also Mircrosoft buying Capcom would be fucking glorious and hilarious just for the sake of trolling.

It's almost like the Pro Controller or Gamecube Controller don't exist.

It'll turn out like Atlus or THQ but if I had to choose between Sony or Nintendo I'd take rather Nintendo get it.

The Gamecube controller is awful for 2D fighting games like Capcom vs SNK 2.

It mainly works for Smash and Soul Calibur II.

Dude, serious fighter play uses joysticks anyway. A console's default controller don't mean shit.

Yeah, I haven't used a controller for years now.. Once you use a stick it's too hard to go back.

Homes rocking the hell out of this thread.

Whatever happens, I just want another Breath of Fire and Mega Man on a gaming console.

...And throw in a new Tech Romancer/Knights of the Round for good measure, too.

If this was aimed in my general direction, it's basically what I was arguing.

WiiU could have the greatest stick in the world, it's never going to be a viable platform for major fighting games. And never has been. With PS360 and Xbone/PS4, You can pretty much just make the same game easily for both. With WiiU it always ends up being different, or the worst of the ports. Plus it doesn't have the online infrastructure that Sony and MS have.

Mario Kart 8 doesn't even let you chat or invite friends to lobbies.

It's still fucking lazy.

I didn't say fighting games had to be widely renowned on the Wii U, just that they would be viable. Everything not named Street Fighter or EX Troopers has essentially found a home with Nintendo.

For the record you realize Ex-Troopers was also a 3DS game, right? >.>

I don't see Guilty Gear Xrd, BlazBlue CP, Melty Blood, Arcana Heart, UNIB or P4 Arena on any current Nintendo systems.

Why not throw in Gundam Vs while I'm at it.

I was thinking things less in the area of fighters. I didn't know about Gundam Vs.

Should something happen none of the big 3 are getting full control as I said, there's too much to lose for anyone to let it happen.

Tekken Tag 2 is on Wii U (beaten by CyborgZeta) with exclusive content to boot. Blazblue/DOA are on the 3DS. Gundam Vs/Capcom vs SNK were on the Gamecube. Tatsunoku vs Capcom was on Wii. Where is this going.
