Viz has picked up the rights to the entire "classic" Sailor Moon franchise (including all 5 series, all of the films, and tie-in specials), including the previously released "Sailor Stars" season. They are planning to release it digitally with subs starting May 19(!) on Hulu and their Neon Alley service. They are also putting together a new dub beginning in late 2014 (there's a dub preview in the announcement trailer below) and plan to release the series on DVD/Blu-Ray in half-season sets. My wife is going to be so damned pleased with this. Wonder if it's going to be an all-new cast, or if they're bringing back some of the old dubbers to actually be allowed to act... |

I think it's pretty exciting, especially since we're getting a new dub and Stars to boot. I really doubt the old cast is coming back though. Most of that speculation seems to be coming from the old cast appearing at the same AX Viz is announcing the new cast at, but I think that's just an expected coincidence. It just makes sense that with a new anime on the way, the old cast would be brought together for a retrospective panel on the original production; their presence doesn't necessarily have to be related to Viz's announcement. |

That's sadly true. But honestly, I could see it done. Have the original show redubbed "the proper way" with the old voices to help nostalgia sell that much more (and those who hate dubs or being reminded of the old dub now have accurate non-CRABSTICK subs!), and the new show can be entirely re-cast from the ground up if need be. Because it's a different show. |

All I know is, there are people so devestated by the Redub and the use of the actual names of the characters that they're swearing off Sailor Moon forever. Because Serena is just such a better name. Seriously, this is a thing. |

Those people are stupid. EDIT: *actually reads it*
WHAT? It is absolutely Usagi, why do they think Japanese is some alien language that can't be understood by our mortal ears? EDIT 2: Okay, they're actually trying to say that the meaning of "the rabbit in the moon" is lost without understanding of both the Japanese language and the cultural meaning of that saying. I guess it makes sense, but I still think it's far better to have the name kept the same across multiple versions. Edited by ZetaStriker, May 19 2014, 08:42 AM.

I can kinda see both ways, really. I mean, Usagi has the whole "Rabbit in the Moon" thing (the meaning of which is a little lost, really, although liner notes or a "pop up video" explanation couldn't hurt things)... but the dub has "Serena" and "Serenity." Both are equally silly, and I don't care which one's used. Though they probably should keep the name the same across the dub and sub, really. Either way's gonna have drama, might as well have it be accurate when it causes a shitstorm. |

Even though anyone with an internet access and can go and read the tale themselves to understand the pun. Either way its silly. |

In the end isn't this dub just going to be watched by the long time fans of the series who already know the whole moon wabbit thing? Most people will probably just switch to the JP audio anyways. |

I learned about it from a crappily-translated chapter of Kamen Rider Spirits, but my wife doesn't really know the tale. Nor would new people, and not would people who remember the dub and want the dub back. Admittedly, yes, Google would solve this. But not everyone wants to do research on something they're watching. |

Yeah, and most people won't care or even know its a pun, they'll just say "Hey her name is Usagi" and continue on with their watching of the show. |

Pretty much. 98% of non-Japanese people in reality just go "Huh, her name is Serena/Usagi. Ok." and then watch on. The Usagi thing won't register as a pun because of the language barrier (unless they translate her name as "Bunny" and piss everyone off... or flash in blatant text USAGI = RABBIT and then go on to exposit on the Rabbit in the Moon tale to, again, piss everyone off), and Serena doesn't register until "Queen Serenity" is brought up... and even then, the thick people will still go "Huh." It's the 2% who will bitch and moan either way, although they're also the target audience for the most part... |

Can't really think of a shorter way of summing this up other than No Penisu Allowed. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-05-23/new-sailor-moon-premiere-event-excludes-men-unless-accompanied-by-women/.74840 |

Is Amuro still voicing Tuxedo Kamen Rider? Did they reject him at the door as well? |

I heard he confirmed he was coming back, but they haven't made an official announcement about voice actors aside from the inner senshi. |

I wonder if he'll have all those awful poem quotes again when he appears. I don't think that was a thing in the manga, but it was hilarious in the anime when the other characters started to call him on how none of them made sense. |

Here's your cast for the new dub:
Source: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-07-05/new-sailor-moon-dub-cast-revealed-at-anime-expo/.76285 I can't seem to find confirmation that this cast will also handle the dub of Sailor Moon Crystal, but it seems very likely. |
