Thanks. Looked up a vid of it. Disappointing. =/ They just sit on Lava like...boats. In my mind I pictured something more grand like the actual stages. Like the track itself being in the sky (Like raibow road), and the ships themselves flying in the background just firing cannonballs and bullet Bills', causing explosions all over the place like they did in Mario 3. |

XD Looking back, I kinda regret never getting MKDS. A large part of it was that I was cheap and didn't want to pay $40 for it. But at the same time, Nintendo were even cheaper fucks and they NEVER lowered the damn price for it regardless of how many years old it was. |

Nintendo never lowers the price of any of their games, always annoyed me. Sadly you can't even play MKDS (or Wii) online anymore, so it's hard to recommend them unless you have a local partner. =/ |

I strongly disagree. The Blue Shells in this game are much rarer than they ever were in MKWiil. I often go entire races without one showing up for both online and offline races. Not to mention, the animation that occurs when you are hit has been nerfed even if the explosion looks the same. And again, you can get the horn while in first place and mushroom while in second which both can be used to defeat the blue shell. If anything, this game is the most balanced MK game when it comes to the blue shell and most players I have met tend to agree. It's just so thoroughly satisfying to be in 1st place and then when in first, use the horn or mushroom to dispel it. I really want to turn around, look at whoever launched it, and give them a dastardly smirk. Green Shells are not just easier to aim for the AI, but for the player as well. In many ways, the green shell is deadlier than the red shell in this game, again, for both the player and the AI. I dare you to attempt to put it to good use next time. You'll be surprised how accurate you are with it. The problem is that we've been raised on years of thinking of the green shell as inaccurate. And quite honestly, I like that the red shell has been nerfed. Sure, it hurts the player, but it hurts the AI and enemy players online much more if you're relying more on track mastery than they are. I'll admit I've been the victim of the "be hit by 20 shells on the third lap", though. At least it only usually happens on 150cc. Truth be told? I'm not an ace when using items. I'm better at learning tracks, learning proper drift moments, and using a proper build. And quite frankly, that's served me so much better in this game than it ever did in MKWii. I feel way more like i'm playing Initial D than in any other MK game I have played. Assuming few shenanigans happen, I tend to always score in the top 3 online because of this. Rosalina + Normal Bike + Azure Roller + Parasol build master race. High speed, high acceleration, high weight, good enough traction and handling is what works for me. I also like the balancing of character, bikes, and parts is so well done in this game that it really comes out to whatever works for you. I hated how it felt like there was only one way to go in MKWii. In other news, Wii U sales rose over 600% over the past week, 82% of which were the MK8 bundle: www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/57958/mario-kart-8-and-wii-u-celebrate-chart-success/ Edited by RPGZero, Jun 2 2014, 04:04 AM.

To my surprise I find that Nintendo has been lowering the prices for their Wii U games though. Most all of their titles are down by $10-20 at least on Amazon and Toys R Us last I checked. |

I love these gifs. The Year of Luigi has only become the Decade of Luigi: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=828919 Love this one: http://abload.de/img/luigih1sc9.gif Oh, two neat attentions to detail: -You can catch a boomerang being thrown at you. Tap the item button before it hits and your character will catch it. -Piranha Plants will literally eat anything. They'll even eat the Bloopers that try to spray ink in your face. Anyway, I have posted a lot of what I think are the positives of this game, but even I have a few negatives: -The connection breaking glitch. If you're online and someone leaves the room without having chosen a stage, you will receive a connection error. Other than that, there are occasional connection errors that happen. I suppose it's to be expected as it's the first week of online and Nintendo will hopefully patch this, but this just messes with my adrenaline. At least there's no lag. -Even though I really like the item balancing in this game (weaker blue and red shells, stronger green shells, only hold one item), I think 1st place should be able to obtain single mushrooms. -The CPU can be cheap on 150cc. -Lack of an options menu. For a game that has a shocking amount of attention to detail, i'm surprised at a total lack of ability to mess with basic options. -While I don't have as many issues with the roster as most people do, I admit there are one too many babies. I only played Wii for about a week before I decided I didn't like it so for me personally my mind goes from DS to 7.
Maybe. I've always used green shells accurately, so maybe I just haven't noticed the improvement. |

http://gematsu.com/2014/06/mario-kart-8-sales-open-1-2-million-worldwide 1.2 sound alright. I mean it's no 11.21 million copies in a single day tier, but still alright for Nintendo. |

That Statue of Liberty Peach is so good. I'm in the process of unlocking and checking out courses/characters. Just got done with 50cc and onwards to 100cc now. I also got 60 coins for the free Pikmin 3 download but I'm still 1 game short of Platinum Status this year with the fiscal year at the end of this month. Might have to sink some dough for WWHD since everything else won't be until later this year and it would be such a waste to miss Platinum by that much. |

The handling is a lot better than MK7 but to a fault. For the life of me I cannot hit some of these turns no matter what with certain characters. Rosalina for instance can't hit some sharp turns at all with anything but Standard Bike and Monster Wheels. I remembered in MKWii the Flame Runner killed the handling allowing you to drift really damn effectively around corners if you could handle it so I tried to replicate it here. I don't have anything with worse handling aside from a Kart but they can't turn as effectively as a bike so that doesn't help any. I've been fiddling with Time Trial mode for a while as a makeshift practice mode trying to get Rosalina to turn these fucking corners. The game overall is a lot of fun so far. The split screen isn't bad at all as my brother and I played a lot of it with no problems whatsoever. The game isn't unfairly cheap either like in MK7 but it's almost too easy at times. Zero is right about Blue Shells being rare as all hell too. |

Remember that traction matters a lot as well. Also, it matters where you start drifting. I personally like outside drifting and like using the Normal Bikes (Standard Bike, Varmint, etc.), but I've seen a few people use her with the Sport Bikes online and do pretty well with her. But I notice that the way I drift and when I drift is vastly different from the way and when they do it as well. Traction is what really surprised me. I remember when I made the move from the Sponge Wheels to the Azure Rollers which gave me a 0.5 difference in traction. Even with that small a change, I was able to feel the difference and had to compensate. |

I tried high traction and it didn't help any. I was trying to hit those turns on Rainbow Road with her from several different angles and she always winds up falling off on prolonged drifts because she gets pushed outside too quickly. I just can't get her to do it with anything but shit handling bikes. It's the first and second turns of the course and then the final 180 turn of it that she just cannot for the life of me hit no matter how I approached it with Sponge/Azure or anything else that gave high traction and handling. |

Remember each vehicle has hidden stats that aren't displayed in the game for whatever reason. There's a guide on GFAQs that lists them. And I don't like bikes in this game. A shame too because those were my favorites. =/ I have the same problem with turning. Edited by Orochi Kusanagi, Jun 4 2014, 09:20 AM.

Try drifting early and sliding around corners for stuff that does outside drifting, maybe? That's what I do for tight turns and it generally works for me. @Fieryone: At least you can be consoled by the fact that the online will not die until the Wii U dies. MKWii had a thriving online until the day they shut down the Wii's servers. |

Why is the article focusing only on Japan's sales and not the fact that it broke the record for Mario Kart sales worldwide? On top of that, Japan isn't the world market. The guy is all "oh noes" when the information he is talking about only deals with Japan. |

Surprised he didn't cite how Wii U sales are up 666% in the UK which could only be the result of Nintendo selling their souls to the devil. And I still can't get her to make those turns. I've been going at them from every angle with the Comet and Sport Bike (both of which are supposed to have inside-drifting) and she still winds up so far outside by the end she goes off the side. Standard wheels, Sponge, Azure, no dice on any of them. The only thing at my disposal that will allow Rosalina to make the first and final turns of Rainbow Road is the Standard Bike with Monster Wheels. I seriously think the FAQs is bullshit because the Standard Bike stays inside far better and for far longer than the Sports Bike and Comet. Do you guys want to try those setups and see if I'm just bad or something? Even starting the drift far outside she goes inside but the turns are so long that it doesn't matter and eventually she winds up outside again. |

The person who did that article wasn't even trying. The article states that MK8 was released on the 29th and that the WiiU sales shown cover May 26th through June 1st. MK8 was only available for 4 days. The article mentions that the sales were barely helped, but their article for the previous week shows WiiU sales at 9,024. This is 10,000 less than the sales for May 26th through June 1st. Three and four articles back don't even reach the 9,000 mark at 6,716 and 7,613 respectively. You have to go back to March 24th through March 30th to see the WiiU breaking the 10,000 mark with 13,026. |
