The last retro track is the N64 iteration of Rainbow Road. It was beautiful.

Both Rainbow Roads were incredibly beautiful in this game, though I felt either one or the other could have made better use of the anti-gravity ability which is why they don't rank among my favorites this time around.

Overall, I love this game. Since it was announced that the Wii U is now turning a profit, I hope this game does extra well to help put Nintendo over some more.

Also, having never played 7 and seeing some courses from it in this game, I wonder if I should pick it up at some point.

Does it have you collect 8 Red Coins? Five times?

XD

How or about a level where you ditch the cart and have to do crazy platforming while being timed?

HF: that video is amazing. Pretty crazy to see DLC like that for Mario Kart!

That video is amazing. Love that the hyper-realistic Mario panics at the touch of a Goomba.

Are any stages lacking laps like the 3DS one? I thought it was cool how that one had giant stages for some of them.

N64 Rainbow Road is like that in this. Which is a good thing because to do three full laps of that thing would be absurd considering how long it is.

Off the top of my head, the only other one I can remember is the retro Wario track that I think came from Mario Kart DS.

Oh cool. I love those.

How about kart customizing? Have you messed with it yet? Does it change the feel of the karts significantly, or is it mostly a cosmetic thing? And can you change any colors on the parts?

I'll have to mess with the combinations more tonight.

The vehicles themselves do have differences, most notably when it comes to drifting. ATVs tend to have a wide drift curve that press outward, bikes have a curve that's somewhat wide but doesn't push you too far out, while sport bikes do inside drifting which is difficult to get used to but could be advantageous. I haven't tried the low riders or bug cars yet.

The only wheels I have tried other than the standard are the slim and the monster wheels. Slim seems to give me an extra edge in the speed department while the monster wheels are heavier and are better for bumping opponents.

I really want to see how the Wood and Cushion wheels play.

The Roller wheels (rollerblade style wheels) seem to offer a lot more speed, but a lot less grip and control. The Wood wheels offer a surprising amount of control and grip but possibly less speed. The Cushion wheels allow no loss of acceleration after doing stuff like landing. I really couldn't tell what the Sponge wheels did, but they don't seem to have the best grip.

There are even MORE wheels than that but i'll mess with them later.

The different aerial devices are basically hangtime vs. quicker landing time. The gliders offer much more hangtime and will allow you to reach certain secret areas. The parachute will get you on the ground quick and smooth if you think that's faster. The parafoil is somewhere inbetween.

Also, weight classes, their pros, and their cons:

Sorry for the triple post, but some notes:

-Note that if you buy the game and register it with Club Nintendo between today and July 31st, you will get a free download code for one game of your choosing:
-New Super Mario Bros. U
-Pikmin 3
-Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
-Wii Party U

-All Kart, Wheel, Glider, and Character Stats are here after you scroll down a bit: http://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_8

-There is a rival system in the game so if you decide to play as one character and notice the same characters trying to gang up on you, it's because of this.

-And like most Nintendo games, this game has an internal trophy/achievement system in the form of stamps.

Got the game. So far I'm liking it. It's probably got the least changes between two Mario Kart games, but 7 was so good I don't mind.

I send friend requests to Phoenix and BadBoiu. What's yours, Orochi?

Also, I like that this is the most balanced Mario Kart in existence. MKWii was so unbalanced and this game is the complete opposite.

I also like that there's no slowdown for underwater and aerial sections like in 7.
