I liked the first game a lot, though it had its issues, and i'm pretty excited about the changes: -Manual swinging! You will use the L2 and R2 to manually swing. This hasn't been in a Spider Man game since the PS2. Webs will also touch the buildings now rather than flying up to the clouds. -Hero and Menace system, where your responsibility to the city comes into play. Allowing crime to get out of control and doing nothing about it means Jameson will ramp up his campaign against you. Doing more heroic deeds and side quests to stop crime will change the city's opinion of you. Being a menace means at some point in the game, an Anti-Spider Man task force will be appointed to kill you. -Playable Peter Parker which has different mechanics. He'll be used for investigating certain things and will be used to move the story forward. -The stealth action mechanics from the first game will do the fusion dance with the stealth action mechanics from Noir Spider Man from Shattered Dimensions. (Finally!) -Miles Morales costume confirmed as an alternate costume. Speaking of alternate suits . . . -Suits are now more than just skins. Each have their own stats and can be upgraded individually. Some even have special abilities. Beenox hinted that one suit will be completely resistant against all taser and electrical attacks. Anyway, you gain new suits whenever you take over an Oscorps. hideout. -Endless random crimes once you've beaten the game so that you don't run out of stuff to do. Wow, I have to give it to Beenox. They actually listened to the fans' complaints and did something about it. |

I'm getting pretty excited for this. I just hope that the Peter Parker gameplay has enough meat to it. The game wasn't very well done overall, but I really liked the Peter Parker "missions" in the Spider-Man 3 game that let you play as Pete taking pictures for the Bugle. I want to see that again here. At the very least, a recent Gameinformer article mentioned that there are "dialog options" during a scene (in the example given, they pop up during a conversation with Harry Osborn). Hopefully this means you can sway the story somewhat. Source: http://www.gameinformer.com/games/the_amazing_spider-man_2/b/xbox360/archive/2014/03/19/what-kind-of-a-spider-man-are-you.aspx A nice little developer walkthrough was recently released as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_JJzq5BCqo The stealth gameplay looks pretty Arkham-esque, which was something I enjoyed in Shattered Dimensions (the Spider-man Noir missions were a personal favorite). Some more details were posted by creative director Thomas Wilson in the comments section on the Playstion Blog :
The PS4 version was also confirmed as native 1080p. Source: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/03/27/the-amazing-spider-man-2-ps4-video-walkthrough/#sf2360873 |

Currently playing. While the game has its flaws, and is a perfect example of Beenox simultaneously taking major steps forward and unfortunately steps backward with the games, I have to say this: This game has an amazing rendition of Kraven the Hunter. I love the dynamic going on between him and young Peter. This game has amazing character dynamics, probably better than any other Spider Man game I have ever played. One thing I really like is how they are toying with the idea of what "responsibility" is. Peter has not killed anyone. Kraven only kills criminals when he feels that allowing the criminal to live will cost the lives of more innocent victims. And then there's the mysterious "Carnage Killer" who kills criminals regardless. When Peter has to interview Kraven for the Bugle (he's already met him once as Spider Man), Peter is noticeably taken in by Kraven's charisma as well as his logic meaning he begins to weigh the possibilities himself. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plxmlPNvaAo Quick video of me using the Spider-Man Noir suit to do a perfect stealth run of one of the Russian hideouts. It's stealth buffs really are amazing and I imagine at fully upgraded with Heroic Level 2, it may even end up somewhat broken. |

Pretty great video! I keep forgetting I can do that on the PS4, haha. I've got the game too, and I've been working away at it as well, and the stealth stuff is pretty damned fun. You can see how hard Beenox are trying to channel Arkham Asylum's gameplay and this game is all the better for it. They're almost there, IMO- they just need to get rid of some of the floaty feeling during combat. I know Spidey is fast, but c'mon. The Peter Parker moments have turned out to be interesting and a fun but I wish the dialogue choices mattered, ala Mass Effect. Maybe by the time we get to part 3? I must also admit that I am surprised by the continuity between this and the first game (the scene in Kraven's loft with the cross-species creatures in particular, among other things) because it's not something we usually see with these movie tie-ins. It's making me want to go back and pick that game to see how some of these relationships started. |
