I bought the digital collector's edition, or whatever it's called. I kind of wish I had the book, but I didn't want to spend so much extra money just for that.

I regret not having a PS3.

I'd be happy even if I only got to at least play the final boss fight.

Wow, this game is fucking insane. And it starts out insane, rather than building up to it. It's so beautiful. XD

For reference, this Gamespot review is probably what nailed the spirit of the game best. The Polygon review was good too, focusing on just how fun the game's ridiculous concepts were, but this one better described just what it was that made Drakengard 3 so special.

Anyway, I still need to read the novellas, and track down full translations of Dragon-On-Dragoon 1.3. The novellas were talked about earlier in this thread, but 1.3 is a series of short stories re-writing the first game around what changed after Drakengard 3's Ending A. From what I saw . . . it still pretty much sucks for everyone. And Leonard leads an all-boys choir, which is the worst thing.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention, my exact rage quote about the Drakengard 3 boss was: "I am so mad at how hard this boss is that I'm inventing obscenities in imaginary languages."

You can find 3's novellas on the official site, outside of I think One's because it spoils a lot of stuff.

The rest you can find on the Drakengard wiki. I don't think the 1.3 novella is translated, but its prequel mangfa is pretty up to date on scanlations.

When I can find the time for games I've been playing my roomie's copy of Project Diva f to brush up on my rhythm abilities to prepare for Branch D.

The main reason why I hesitate buying the NA version. I don't really mind paying for JP voice DLC but 10 gigs.. I'll have to delete the games I'm still playing and some DLCs just for that alone.

If it helps, the English voice cast is really, really good. The dub voice for Cent in particular is a big improvement over his Japanese voice, and the big talkers of Zero, Mikhail and Dito are as good as their original voices at the very worst; I personally prefer dub Zero in particular. The only voice I've seen that's substantially better in the original Japanese is Decadus.

dub Four sounds like she even does the psycho moments pretty well, from what I looked at.

They grabbed some really good people for the dub, Drakengard 1 and NIER veterans to boot. I'll be getting the CE so I'll have the sub, but the dub is well worth the run through from what I've heard.

I saw some playthrough vids up on Youtube.

Though one of the ones I saw replaced the Ending D final battle with the one from the JP version because he found it so hard he didn't want to do it all over again.

I admit, I haven't seen Ending D in English for the same reason. I may just try to sync my game with the videos that give a normal rhythm game-style bar at the bottom of the screen so I can beat it that way. Screw that stupid camera and hidden notes near the end.

The hidden notes probably is one the biggest troll in gaming history.

Anyway I watched a couple of English dub vids and I must say the dub is pretty good. The only thing I don't like is the scream when entering Utahime mode. It's really underwhelming compared to the Japanese dub.

I'll have to check that out. I watched a lot of cinematics in Japanese, but not any gameplay, so I missed that.

It's feeling like his choice for endings comes down to putting words on paper into a top hat, and then having his cat pick randomly pick out what they're going to actually go with.

This was my favorite part:
Quote:

“In Drakengard there was a character that accompanied the protagonist so we followed the same system in Drakengard 3,” Yoko said talking about characters Octa and Dito. “In terms of roles, they play noisy and useless characters who say strange things.”

Gotten through most of Chapter 2 so far and I love it.

Zero's amazing, she's like a sluttier Kaine. I can't wait to get the other disciples.

Mikhail a cute.

This is probably the one game where you can call all the female characters sluts and whores and it actually is apt.

.....Maybe DOA.

DoA just dress and writhe around like whores, they don't ask their male subordinates to fuck later or openly talk about eating semen.

I'm not sure I'd use words with such strong derogatory meanings; you guys throw "slut and whore" around a lot, and stuff like that is exactly the reason why a lot of people find it very easy to make women feel ashamed about their bodies and sexuality. I'm not exactly trying to attack you, but it makes me skin crawl every time I see those words used just because a woman wore revealing clothing or happened to express sexual desire. To put it in another way, if I and a good majority of other people told someone they were fucking fat every time they didn't wear extra baggy shirts that were too big on them, they'd probably eventually start to feel crippling shame about doing so. In the other example it's even worse, because it's not just what they wear, but even the entire idea that they're allowed to enjoy sex.

Anyway, I'm off topic. As for what you're trying to say, I do find it pretty refreshing. All these women are having tons and tons of sex, and it's not really used to titillate the player at all. It's just kind of played off as being a part of the characters, as basic as their abilities to speak or breathe, and it's nice. One thing I like about Zero in particular is how little she fucks around, despite all the literal fucking around. While the Disciples banter constantly, usually the only times she mentions sex are either when she's taking a new Disciple, telling them to shut up about sex, or berating them for their poor performance. It's great, and allows her to kind of play the straight woman to all their over-the-top fetishes.
