They COULD put her in, but it rests entirely on Sakurai. Bamco wouldn't care and instantly say yes because she gets put in almost anything they could put her in. Whether her actual self, cameo, or even just her outfits like with Judith in ToV PS3.

Though as much as I'd love KOS-MOS, even I'll easily say there's no chance of her getting in over a Tales character.
I don't know how you can say that. Saying that they'll put KOS-MOS in anything and then turn around and say she has no chance over a Tales character. The only Tales character I see with even a remote chance would be Lloyd.

And I really, really don't want Lloyd. I still think Symphonia had one of the weaker gameplay systems, stories and characters, with only Eternia and Rebirth looking worse than it. I don't understand how it's one of the most beloved Tales games, unless everyone is just blinded by nostalgia of the first big Tales release in the US.

Tales is just the much larger franchise, especially in Japan. And Cless> Most other characters > Lloyd

I hope you've at least played Symphonia before saying that, Ovan.

For that matter, have you even played Phantasia?

@ZetaStriker
I'm not blinded by any nostalgia.

I'm curious then, what makes it stand out to you? I'll at least explain why I rank it so low, although keep in mind that I understand my opinion of the plot is entirely subjective.

In my mind it had a lot of characters that really served no purpose to the plot outside of their own character side quests - Genus and Regal in particular, and Raine for the second half of the story. I personally wasn't a fan of the plot outside of the Kratos/Lloyd relationship, and didn't much care for Lloyd or Colette's cookie cutter naivete. Oddly enough the main characters often seemed the least developed, and in my opinion Lloyd in particular felt like the standard positive shounen hero tropes with dwarf rules slapped on top of it to add humor to him. He's not the only Tales hero to feel that way, to be fair - Stan wasn't much better - but it doesn't help my understanding of why people cling to him as the Tales standard bearer.

Of course you probably don't share my complaints about the plot and characters if you like it that much, but even then it does have another weakness. A lot of the gameplay systems we much weaker than its predecessors, with less interesting attacks, fewer hi-ougis, casters without artes and the lack of free 3D movement. To be fair these were just the fault of an iterative design process though; a lot of what they learned with Symphonia went into making all subsequent 3D Tales games bigger and better. It's part of the reason why I can't understand the preference, because even if you didn't share my distaste for most of the characters and story, every subsequent Tales game just played much better than this. To me it feels like sticking to Windows 3.1 when Windows 7 is obviously the better OS. 3D movement was introduced, spellcasters and other playable characters got more complex movesets, new battles systems have been introduced across the various Tales games . . . the gameplay alone should be taking some of the wind out of its sails in comparison to everything that followed it. I mean Abyss had FoFs, Innocence had aerial combos, Vesperia had tons of cancels and unique character systems to allow longer combos, Graces had a CC system, Xillia had linking, Xillia 2 had . . . something and Eternia had . . . okay, Eternia is probably a bad example. XD

Xillia 2 had corpse party, everything X1 had and costumes!

Eternia is a classic Tales game, great music, infinite moddability to screw around with Reid and has Arena battle VS Cless. That makes it top tier.

Woops, meant Legendia, not Eternia. Eternia isn't even 3D. And it's super awesome.

Well since you asked, I'll tell you.

- I enjoy the battle system. The lack of Free Run or Hi-Ougis does not bother me. Battles are fast, and it's fun to get long combos on bosses using characters like Lloyd or Zelos. Raine also has a very good AI for healing.

- I love how the game maintains a constant 60fps on everything outside the world map. That is a really nice feature.

- I like some of the characters. And the plot, while fairly standard at times, is entertaining enough for Tales. That, coupled with the game's English voice acting, makes it fun to take the piss out of the game.

- Symphonia has dungeons with puzzles. I love puzzles.

- It's on the Gamecube, one of my favorite consoles.

The game overall, especially in battles, feels much faster and more enjoyable than Abyss or Vesperia. Keep in mind I'm largely comparing the game to the other ones that have been released in English. I've played little Japanese Tales aside from Rebirth, Hearts, and both Xillia titles.

Your Windows comparison is apt, but I don't subscribe to that mindset. For example, Twilight Princess is a much better game than Ocarina of Time in terms of gameplay, world size, and mechanics. And yet I still find Ocarina of Time to be the much better game to play thanks to its story and consistently good dungeons.

And TP actually has some pretty good dungeons too. Or at least, that's what I think.

Okay, I think I can see where you're coming from, even if I don't agree with all of it. Especially with the puzzle dungeons, they were a highlight of the game I'd forgotten.

What? You can't be tired, you can sleep in the grave.

Watch it be Luke that makes it in because of his game's recent port to the 3DS.

You know who'd like to see Bamco throw in? Domon Kasshu. Aside from having a workable movepool, G Gundam was one of the first Gundams the US got thanks to Toonami. People would recognize him.

I'd honestly like to see someone from a Wii U exclusive game take up one of the third party spots. Chase McCain from Lego City Undercover or Wonder Red/Mr. Wedgewood from the Wonderful 101 could both add something very nice to the game.

All in all, this is definitely going to be the first Smash Brothers game I will be owning since the Nintendo 64 release.

I recall seeing a link recently that included a Statement from Sakurai saying that just because Bamco is working with them on the game. That we shouldn't expect characters from them, third party characters are a special case and that they should be treated as such, such as Megaman.

I need to find the link again.

I've seen that too. He didn't specify Bamco, but he said not to expect many third party characters.

Here is the link I was referring too!

As well as another that is about no DLC planned at this time, and tripping being removed.

...I'm not sure why this should be shocking. They already said the two games will have completely different stages; wouldn't that make them incompatible by default?

Yeah, this is totally expected in my mind. They've already pretty much announced that they aren't the same game, like Amuro said.

A few different stages doesn't mean they're entirely different games. I know a few people in particular who were really hyped for cross platform because now it forces them to get certain versions of the game in order to play with each other.

Honestly, most people should be getting the Wii U Smash; especially for multiplayer.

Smash has always been a console fighter. And if the 3DS Smash being 30fps is accurate, that's even less of a reason to get it.

It is inconvenient, I admit. I wasn't worried about it for this, but I was definitely upset it wasn't included in Dragon's Crown . . . which actually is identical across both versions.
