Since I'm still without Deus Ex, this topic reminded me I could pass the time away with the Space Marine demo. "So awesome," I thought to myself, as I turned on my 360 and went to download it. "DENIED, XBL Gold required," my 360 replied smugly. "I'll go snag it off of PSN, then!" I said aloud in defiance, turning on my PS3 with a grin.

It was then that I recalled that the demo won't be up on PSN until tomorrow.

...

Manly tears were shed.

Demo's pretty goddamned awesome, Hobbes. You need to try it. Chainsword combat felt right and the guns didn't get in the way of RIP AND TEAR either.
And thankfully, there's no jumping in this game without a jump pack. SPHESS MEHREENS are too damned heavy to jump without them.

The Demo is out on the PS3. I played it and throughly enjoyed it, I can't even put into words the amount of awesome. I cannot wait to get my hands on a Thunderhammer, because the power Axe was four different flavors of awesome. Oh if you can't play the demo may I suggest this video from some guy British guy very entertaining plus some good 40K commentary. I want this game last week if possible.

Whelp, I've been toying around with Kill Team, and it's rather fun. I've basically been running Salamander (I asked Akito if any MEHREENS ran green, he brought those guys up... and damn, I really dig 'em). Librarian was awesome fun, although I really like the Tech-Marine as well.
And yeah, now I'm sold for SPHESS MEHREEN, period.

Currently have scrounged up some of the Ciaphas Cain stories (and by that, I also mean some of the short stories), as well as the first Salamander book (not to mention the prequel short story). I'll have to try reading them, now that my brain's had enough of binging on Star Trek for a bit.

Tried the demo. Seems okay.

I guess if I had any complaints about it, it'd be that using the jump pack feels awkward and that having to regain health through executions isn't very ideal to me.

Yeah, the Jump Pack is pretty bizarre. I like that it's pretty solid and strong, but the movement is kinda awkward.

Felt just fine for me. It's a momentary boost rather than a perpetual flying machine. That's how it works in the fiction - it's more for drop and assault that sustained air combat.

It's not that. It's the act of jumping that feels awkward.

I don't feel like I have good control of my character after jumping, or when aiming ground pounds either.

Mostly a minor issue.

I don't really think you're supposed to. It's more of a jump than a jetpack, from what I saw. Just get yourself in the air, then aim your ground pound and go. It felt very fluid and powerful to me.

@CyborgZeta: Jump packs in the 40K Universe are pretty meant for short jumps with how should we say limited control. In the fluff their used a lot of the time for either covering ground quicker than a foot solider, or for deploying from a Thunderhawk at high speeds. I found the Jump pack to be not too bad to control, I mostly just jumped then tried to aim into some Orcs.

@NewtypeS3: Salamanders are a pretty interesting Chapter of Marines, they're a founding Legion, but they also are the only marines that still live and interact with normal humans on a regular basis and tend to put themselves before others when it comes to protecting the Imperium. They also really like Thunderhammers and Flamers.

...Which is why I found them really fascinating. They're more than just SPHESS MEHREENS and 4 THE EMPRAH, and there's potential for some really great stories to shove in with them as well. I'll probably sample the first solo book the Salamanders got after I finish the first Ciaphas Cain novel. The initial short story was amusing enough, I might as well keep reading.
I'm not so interested in 40K that I'd want to dive into the actual miniatures or start quoting the various Codexes as a way of life, but I do find the more obscure corners of the franchise pretty fascinating.

Hell, if anyone was to try a board RP or something with 40K, I'd be somewhat interested.

Salamanders are pretty cool. Love their choice in weapons, and as pointed out, there aren't quite as much the pretentious jerks as some other chapters.

Well, slapped down my pre-order for SPHESS MEHREEN. And I'll be grabbing it at the midnight release work's having on the 5th to celebrate Resistance 3 coming out. Because fuck, why not. And I might win something cool, considering maybe 10 people will be there.

Already unlocked multiplayer customizer first here.

Tactical: Has the perk of being a spawn point if taking teleport homer(+50 xp for being a spawn point)
Assault: My god the movement range on these are insane. You can do 1 mega jump, dodge with 2 burst jumps and then go all over again.
Devestator: gotta lock into place before you go full auto on the heavy bolter...meh

Where did you get it for such a price?

I got it due to gift cards and a lovely employee discount. Might wind up getting Dead Island for $30 as well, if things work out in that respect.

Multiplayer ain't bad, but I've found it can easily turn into an Assault Chainsword/saw fest. Which winds up being retarded.

Well, I'm slightly jealous of you S3, but that's the advantage of those and Employee discount.

Eeh, it's only 10% off. Takes care of taxes and a bit more. The $50 in gift cards didn't hurt one bit.

Meanwhile, the MEHREEN customization is quite awesome. Currently running with a modified Salamander - the main body's the chapter green, but the right arm and pauldron are a blood red.
I also really dig the fact that using the weapons more wind up giving you better perks to slap onto your weapons. It DOES unbalance the game like mad, though.
