Twin stick shooter with melee classes? Buh? This looks more like old-school Smash TV-style fun than a Geometry Wars clone, so me thinks they just pinned the wrong genre on it. |

So you can carry up to 4 ranged weapons, but only one melee? Sure hope they Thunder Hammer is suitably awesome, then. |

DL'd it as soon as it went up on the Marketplace. Some information: Chapters included: Blood Ravens, Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Salamanders, White Scars, Space Wolves. Classes: Sternguard Veteran(Devastator), Vanguard Veteran(Beakie w/ Jump Pack), Techmarine, Librarian. Some ingame images hint at Chaos being in as well. We'll see. I played the first stage and I had a blast - great game so far! |

Played the first two stages (Imperial Fist Sternguard Veteran), and I think its quite fun so far. The lack of online co-op is REALLY disappointing though. |

Finished it; the main mode is five stages long, and I've only clocked a few hours so far even with a few stage replays. As far as I'm concerned it has plenty of replay value and also has a survival mode to dick around with, so I feel it was worth the $10. Its generally solid for what it is, and there's a number of great moments. The majority of the last stage is just awesome, and it was fun to see the Tyranids. Several complaints though. -The camera angles can be incredibly shitty at times, which can make it difficult to aim precisely when it the situation demands it. This can make several sections extremely frustrating because you can't aim at the objective target (often a powerful weapon firing at you), while also being swarmed by infinite enemies. -The game is heavily range-biased. The melee classes have tremendous difficulty in a number of sections, against certain enemy types, and several bosses. I'm not sure if you can even use melee attacks against any phase of the final boss. This isn't as much an issue if you're playing co-op, which leads into my next point... -This is not a single-player game. It has a single-player mode, yes, but it obviously was not designed as one. This makes the lack of online co-op all the more damning. Interestingly, there's not even any altered dialogue for single-player; all characters act as if there are multiple Marines whether there are or not. Class analysis: Vanguard Veteran Ranged: Plasma Pistol Melee: Chainsword, Power Axe, Lightning Claw Primary melee class, and the worst class in the game. The sword and axe are both a bit slow, although the claw seems swifter. Its ranged attack is horrible, with low power and firing rate. Its special attack is also really mediocre; your Marine is able to dash around at high speeds, hitting enemies it passes, and ends with a large AoE attack. Its really hard to control though, and isn't as useful when enemies are spread out. Librarian Ranged: Bolt Pistol Melee: Power Sword, Force Sword, Force Sword Epic The other melee class, the Librarian is a bit more balanced than the Vanguard. The bolt pistol is more useful than the Vanguard's plasma pistol, and the melee attacks are all pretty swift with good range. The special is a bit iffy; it is an AoE blast around the Marine, but it takes a few seconds to activate. Really disappointed in the weapon selection though; was a Force Staff too much to ask for? Sternguard Veteran Ranged: Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannon, Missile Launcher Melee: Gun Strike Primary ranged class, and probably the best class in the game. All its guns hit hard and fire fast, though the missile launcher appears to also deal splash damage. The melee attack is pretty crappy of course, and the first two weapons require good aiming skills. The special dramatically ups your weapon's damage and rate of fire for a limited time; very effective for clearing crowds, especially if you're being mobbed. Tech-Marine Ranged: Bolter, Plasma Gun, Melta Gun Melee: Servo-Arm The other ranged class, though it is quite good at melee. The primary weapons all seem to provide decent firepower (I haven't used the melta yet); better than the Vanguard and Librarian, worse than the Sternguard. The hard-hitting melee attack is reasonably fast and has a good attack radius. Its special deploys a sentry turret, independently attacking enemies onscreen for a set period of time. It takes a few seconds to set up after you activate it though, and its target priority can be questionable at times. |

Took the Melta for a spin; it is really, really good. It maintains a continuous beam so long as you're firing, meaning you're dealing constant damage and the beam of light makes it very easy to aim. It sets enemies (and the scenery) on fire, and may deal DoT but I can't tell. Arguably it makes the Tech-Marine better than the Sternguard, especially with the perks that improve your special meter charge rate. |

I ended up grabbing it as well, and should be giving it a spin soon enough here. In co-op, more than likely. Frankly, despite your complaint, I find local co-op a thousand times more appealing than online co-op; if a game has local co-op it's already halfway sold in my mind, since it seems such a rare thing to find these days. It's hard enough to schedule something at the same time with online friends, much less that necessity of actually owning the same game. Being able to just bring a couple guys over and enjoy the best aspect of the game is probably one of the most important things I look for these days. |

I'm confused as to why online/offline co-op has to be either/or. |

It doesn't have to be, but for the most part companies have made it that way. Now, we could have a long conversation over the reasons for that; the diminished quality of split-screen play being unfavored, developers trying to sell more copies of their games, companies like Microsoft trying for force players to pay for their Gold membership . . . but I'm getting off track, because I think it's stupid either way. My point was that if they only include one or the other, I want local co-op. It increases the value of a game by allowing others to play with paying, and if both types of multiplayer play are available, gives you an easy way to try and sell your friends on the game and actually use it online. |

Fair enough, I suppose. In other, hilarious, news, as of this post I am #1 on the Leaderboards for the Teleporta Complex survival stage. I survived over 11 minutes, scored over 2 million points, and killed just shy of 1800 Tyranids. |

I dunno Thunder Hammers are made for breaking tanks, I doubt it would get stuck, technically you can break titians with them. I"m not happy with the later this summer PS3 release date, what does that even mean. |
