No, that's not the title...though it'd be awesome if it was. XD

Now powered by dead souls and courage.

Which will be one of the most underrated Guts movies ever made and is actually better than Live or Guts Hard.

Hey, at least "Live Free or Guts Hard" had Guts taking out a flying dragon with a mine cart.

I suppose I'd better catch up without using the abridged series this time.

Is this actually going to be a sequel though? It seems. . . counter-productive to release a sequel to a 12 year old show. I'm expecting a reboot that just keeps going where the old anime left off.

The production team could have its cake and eat it, too, if they set it up right.

The blurb makes it sound as if the new season will focus on the Black Swordsman chapter of Guts's life instead of the extended Hawk flashback. The writers could start with an in media res, much like the manga, and move on from there, chronicling Guts's Apostle-hunting with just enough explanation and throwbacks to convey why certain characters or events are important.

It lets newcomers enjoys Guts's (even more) hardcore phase right off the bat while acting as a sequel to the first anime.

That's just the thing; the blurb is providing information unrelated to the announcement. They used a series description provided by Dark Horse for the manga. The magazine's announcement doesn't mention anything about plot, other than that it''s Berserk.

@angry: which abridged series, the one by hbi2k?

@ZS: well, considering how the anime ... "ended", a creative producer could do a reboot and a sequel that goes beyond the Eclipse more than five minutes.

Also, I am horribly behind on my Berserk manga. Stuck at Volume 24.

EDIT: I cannot think of any good Die Hard and Guts jokes.

I'm not saying it's not possible. . . but avoiding the originally 26-episode-long backstory would be tragic. At the very least, if they don't re-tell that tale, I hope we get a 3-episode sidestory of sorts to recap the important bits. Sort of like the Teresa flashback in Claymore.

Finally... since the first series ended you couldn't go a month here without a rumor about a new Berserk anime popping up.

Yeah, 1/144 is a pretty bad ratio for the hit and miss of those rumors.

They're going with the "better late than never" approach methinks.

Guts Hard with a Vengeance and Live Berserk or Guts Hard.

That's how it should be.[/nitpick]

So, definitely going to cover the first anime at least in a recap flashback. All the material on there is from that storyline, as far as I can tell.

Read that as Golden Eye trilogy and the James Bond theme played in my head. I should head to bed now...

Yeah, the Golden Age arc was the stuff that occurred prior to the Black Swordsman stuff.

Golden Age is the long flashback that covers Guts childhood up through him meeting the Band of Hawks and eventually ending in the eclipse.
