It's funny. Whenever something is announced, I ignore all other information until after I read everything about Panthro.

That ad was actually the first thing I saw about the new TC series. And it totally worked.

Then again, I was the kind of kid who bought the Sword of Omens toy and got pissed that it didn't grow.

Interesting note, first three episodes of the original 1985 Thundercats will air on Cartoon Network tomorrow morning. About 10 AM Central for me. Not complaining at all.

I saw the premiere, and I got to say I'm interested. Brief cameo by Lynx-O was brief, and it's good to see both the old and new versions of the Thundercat battle cry. Interesting take on Lion-O here, as well as the whole of Third Earth.

Also, I have to enjoy the tweaks on both Tigero and Cheetara which give them personality early on. The original I had to admit didn't do too good a job on giving them identities outside of a couple of episodes.

I thought it tried to squeeze a lot in two episodes. Some things could of been fleshed out some more. Depends how the series goes on from here. I'll continue watching it.

The original is one of those things that I liked growing up but can't watch now. So everything this show has done has so far been better. Even the new Snarf.

SPOILERS for the opening episodes below. Looks like we don't have a spoiler color at the moment, so I'm just throwing that warning out there.

I'm still not really sold . . . my enjoyment of the show probably will, once again, depend entirely on the treatment of Panthro as a character. I almost gave up on this reboot entirely when he showed up as a damsel in distress during the second episode, but thankfully that little ruse was proven false within the next several minutes. He also gave me the funniest moment of the episodes. When they mentioned not believing in Technology, me and my friend just looked at each other and whispered "then just wait until Panthro comes back and builds a freaking tank".

The whole technology thing still seems weird to me though. I don't get how a medieval Thundercat society took over when other races have missiles and giant robots. They're obviously outnumbered and outgunned, so I don't quite understand how they ever had a dominant society for anyone to destroy. At least they made it very difficult for anyone to feel sorry for them when it did happen. Lion-O is pretty much the only cat shown so far who isn't a total douche.

Tigra . . . well, when he was shown as the responsible one, I just whispered to my friend, "I guess this takes place before his rampant drug addiction". Honestly, next to Panthro, seeing Tigra get strung out on Mumra's magic juice is probably the thing I want to see most. I also hope he just straight out ditches his whip for a gun. That would be so much cooler.

The kids were hilarious, if creepy. Burp jokes aside, seeing them watch dozens of people die in an explosion and just shrug it off by saying, "Hey, good thing I wasn't over there!" with a happy smile was a shocking piece of dark humor. They seem like total sociopaths.

Cheetara is a stalker. And a cleric. And she's still not any more interesting than her original boring counterpart, but I'm sure she'll be fleshed out like the others before too long here.

Overall . . . I felt it was generic. I saw an idiotic post someone put up that said it was "too much thunder, not enough cat", but in a way I knew what they meant. It was a series of generic action scenes that never let you stop and care about what's happening . . . and for all its goofiness, I felt the original series opener at least managed that much. I'm hardly judging the series off of this, mind you, but that's my opinion of the opening episodes taken on their own.

The Blade that Cuts Injustice
SPOILERS, etc

I doubt all the other species were just walking around with all this technology. I'm guessing you'll find out soon that Grune discovered discovered this stuff with the lizards or something (or Mumm-Ra had a hand in equipping them). THey're not that stupid to set up a world where the guys with pointy sticks take over the world of giant robots and then lose to the same exact things completely and utterly.

I've been getting the vibe that this reboot could be more of a distant alternate future of the original series. Instead of the Thundercats somehow getting a new planet to colonize, they just settle into Third Earth permanently. Ages pass, and much of what the original Thundercats dealt with have been considered relics of antiquity. Then finally, a new Lion-O appears.

I knew about Thundercats growing up mostly from the toys, and it was years later that I finally watched the classic show itself, albeit mostly on Cartoon network (I was definitely just so-so with it). That being said, though I knew about the basic concepts, I was really a blank slate going into this series.

Good lord, it was good! The animation/designs are top-notch, the voice acting was damned solid. I really enjoy the way the world and the characters have been set up so far, too. It's very intriguing, and I hope we see other villages/towns soon.

WilyKit and WilyKat are awesome, and I like how the relationship between Lion-O and Tygra has been set up.

Nope. That was added to keep him from being as ridiculously boring as he was in the original series.

That, and making him a smug little prick.

Damn it people this series is a fresh new start you have to be open minded and not let the nostalgia of all the original characters to be present and accounted for in the start of the show!
Just let it build up the way it's supposed to and then be the judge whereas it's traditional and true or a failed attempt
Tho I truly believe this fresh new start is quite amazingly well made and it's piecing together nicely

Well, episode one wasn't bad, but it felt very "generic action cartoon" on its own merits. Not something I'd go out of my way to watch by any means, and the fact that the original's brand of stupid hilarity was so much more appealing does hamper my ability to enjoy it. I'm at least sticking with it long enough to see Panthro, but I can't promise more than that yet.

And for the record, I hated Thundercats as a kid. I only found enjoyment in it when I treated it as a comedy and Panthro as the main character a year or two ago.

Oh, I'm enjoying the new Thundercats on its own. I just have an appreciation for the nods to the original series, and I get a kick out of thinking up why there are the differences between the series.

Episode 2 having the Ahab bit from Lion-O was kinda cool, cause I have never seen Lion-O be that gung ho about kicking Mumm-Ra's ass before. And Episode 3 was just absolutely hilarious with the flower people. That the Cat Signal finally emerged from the Sword of Omens was gravy along with what followed.

Watched the whole thing on InDemand last night.

Episodes 1&2 were a great set-up. Interesting how they set up the cats as somewhat...less than heroic.

Episode 3 was...blah. Color me unimpressed.

Episode 4 was actually pretty good. That ending made me tear up a little. Also, FUCK YEAH PANTHRO!!!!

Episode 5 was cool (SAMMOFLANGE!) but some of the backstory seemed rather awkward.

Episode 6 was awesome, though I'm starting to think Jaga's been leading EVERYONE on, since he obviously knew where the book was, yet didn't tell Grune & Panthro, forcing them to wander around for years while our guys find the damn book in about a week or so?

Oh, and Mumm-Ra was awesome, natch.

Newest episode was epic, with some real WTF revelations and establishing the main plot. Unfortunately, it's a MacGuffin hunt, but it's still more than we had in the old show.

I loved Lion-O's comment of "... at least I got a girlfriend." Epic laughs from that one line alone. And I'll say that I doubt they could top THAT fight during this first season.

The last two episodes have been pretty crazily awesome. The backstory to the universe is quite interesting, and I'm looking forward to the quest to come.

Has there been any word on how long this series will be? A finite ending ala Avatar: The Last Airbender would help a great deal in focusing the story.

It's been confirmed that the first season will be 13 episodes, and will be a largely self-contained story (though following seasons will build on previous ones). There's already a second season in the works, which is supposed to deal with everything that happens at the end of season 1.
