I started this. It's pretty fun so far. I died like 2 times on the first mission though. >>;; I don't know why but AC games always seem so hard when I play them. XD

They actually got better and easier for 4 and especially For Answer. But V decided to take steps backwards again. It'll get better once you start upgrading and building better units.

Wish they looked as sleek and awesome as For Answer. But V decided to go with the rusty bulky look.

Okay, I'm up to mission 2 in VD, and keep dying. I haven't started customizing my mech yet, but that's mostly because I'm not sure what to do or if it's even worth it with the little money/parts I have access to. Any tips?

Rifle + Battle Rifle is a good bread and butter combo. You could probably put a thermal weapon of some kind on your bays but only a few guys have such high resistance to both kinetic and chemical. It can be a good idea to bring something along if you have an idea of what enemy AC you'll be up against as a lot of it can just be trial and error.

Eventually you'll figure out what type of weapon works best on the grunts and will only really need to worry about ACs but from what I remember dual Battle Rifles or a HEAT Machine Gun wrecks a good portion of them. If that doesn't work then dual Rifles does the trick. Aside from a few others only the ACs from the very late missions did I need to bring out the thermal weapons to quick kill. It's usually the tanks that are weak to thermal IIRC.

Another major thing you should be doing is that when you're boosting to or from a combat zone, staying airborne or even using thermal weapons is to use scan mode. You won't be able to fire any weapons while in it but the energy drain is greatly reduced and the energy recovery is faster. Get accustomed to toggling it on and off at your discretion.

Also don't bother going for the side objectives on your own. Some are insanely hard to get solo.

Thanks for the tips. I managed to beat mission 2. I also switched to tank legs for that mission, it was crazy how little damage I took with them.

I should be able to start this soon . . . but keep in mind, I suck at Armored Core games. I've never beaten one, and usually get stuck before even the halfway point. Sometimes before I'm 1/4th of the way through. I don't really understand how to mitigate damage well, since dodging seems too slow to actually avoid anything, and I'm never killing enemies fast enough to keep from hitting zero health before the end of most missions with even a moderate level of difficulty.

We need to start a team.

I do technically have a Junk Guild group made. It's just deader than door nails since no one was around to join before.

I'm not really a big fan of what they did with Armored Core V Day and what I hear 5 as well with the team focus, I would have liked it if they kept it similar to the old games.

Yeah I don't like the changes either from FA.

They made melee almost useless. The designs and mech construction is just clunky and regardless of what you build, it always looks like a junk heap. And compared to For Answer, overall speed has been drastically reduced.

How are 4 and FA? They're not team focused hopfully?

No, single player focused. And was fun and had a lot of options to go with.

Still need to check this out. I loved making mech setups back in 4 and 4Answer for semi-competitive MP - tuned very finely for specific roles. Fun to just slap together random parts to create Mobile Suits too though.

How's the customisation in this?

Just beat mission 4. I haven't really had many roadblocks since I switched to the tank legs, the massive defenses really help.

Still using rifle+battle rifle combo. I tried using sniper stuff, but I didn't really like it.

It'll vary, but basically 2 of the best weapons to have in the game are the F-22something rifles. They do insane damage and have good ammo.

Forgot the exact name so I'll need to check it out later.
