Break only rules created by men, uphold only what is true and everlasting

No topic?

Just got back from seeing an advanced screening a few days before the release (Some Spoilers):

The movie was A LOT better than "Terminator 3" and most defenitely was better than I expected. I'm not much of an action movie guy, but this was good.

What I loved is that this isn't a movie "about" John Connor but a movie "of" John Connor. Not that Bale doesn't get a lot of scenes, but this movie has a lot to do with characters who define who John Connor is and his philosophy of life. Connor is the dude trying to live up to who his mother said he will be . . . meanwhile, the leaders of the resistance are cold murderers who don't trust him, Kyle Reese is out there somewhere, SkyNet is trying to find a way to kill Connor, and Sam Worthington's character roams the land not knowing that he has great destiny with Connor.

The action is done nicely. The gigantic machines are vicious in the sounds they make and create some of the best action sequences in American movie robot history. The fights are always desperate on man's side - the Terminators often seem impossible to destroy, but man always rises above the machine with his power and ingenuity.

The direction is good for what it is. McG gets points for presenting a story not of John Connor, but a story about John Connor, about people who define the man who is to lead the resistance. There are some well-done shots, specifically Worthington looking out into a while light only for bullets to rain upon him and an extreme close-up capturing Bale and Worthington.

And the Arnold cameo is cool. It is digital Arnold, but still Arnold.

Overall, worth seeing at least once in your lifetime, though not a must see.

I keep hearing rumors that Connor gets killed and replaced by a Terminator. Can ya squash that rumor for me (otherwise I'll be dreading the possibility for the entire movie)?

from what I hear, there's 2 possible endings to the film...

spoilers?

1. Conner is mortally wounded, and Marcus(Human terminator hybrid) uses his parts to save Conner

2. Conner is dead, Marcus puts on Conner's skin and becomes John conner

McG has claimed that the latter ending is not in the film, because it got leaked on the internet. Dunno if I believe him or not, though.

Spoiler:

No, it's defenitely John Connor at the end. The cyborg just gives his heart so Connor can live.

If it was the cyborg, it would totally ruin the movie in twenty thousand different ways. For one, it would ruin the entire point of Sam's character. Two, it would ruin the theme. Three, John Connor is supposed to be the hero of the future . . . not some dude who dresses like him.

I remember hearing that there was a third ending shot that was decided to be too dark for the movie:

It involves the cyborg being turned into John Connor as before, only at the end when he wakes up, he gets the red SkyNet eyes and kills all the other characters.

This was actually the original scripted ending according to McG. It was supposed to be a dramatic "THE FUTURE IS DIFFERENT" ending or something, but man, I'm glad they didn't use it.

Keep in mind that McG has a really bad habit of out-and-out lying about stuff to sound interesting though, so the dude may have said that after the fact.

Ok. I saw this movie last night. And it was all right I gotta admit, much better than Terminator 3 but there were still so many problems with this movie. The Terminators are all idiots. Most efficient killing machines ever my ass. It's no accomplishment beating these things down. John felt weird in this movie, almost as if he didn't belong here because the real hero was Marcus. John isn't even that inspiring of a figure, he doesn't really do anything that heroic during the film or make any speeches that are good. Nor is he a very charasmatic figure.

Secondly how the hell does Skynet know taht Kyle Rese is a priority target?

Skynet has a weakness for cheesy 1980s Sci-Fi?

There was probably a random comic book where Skynet sent something not too far back in time to tell its younger self to kill Chekov. >>

Why doesn't it send back a virus that wipes out the human race?

Because the writers have made sure it can't think that intelligently.

Don't give them that idea!

Digital Ahnuld (or Summer Glau showing up in an even shittier Terminator universe) to help like... oh... later adolescent John Connor stop the T.... Virus? Wait, wrong franchise.
