CoalGuys has really impressed me, but they're only going to do K-ON! this year. Eclipse might pick it up as well, and they've always done a good job as well. |

Having watched the episode subbed now, there's some good hints this is going to be a full manga adaption. - The aformentioned scenes S3 mentioned in the OP. - A few ominous scenes of 'Father' - Bradly mentioning Selim so early seemed suspicious... - This episode shows that the Elrics are still new to Central. - Lust and Gluttony are in Lior, preparing the shitstorm that's to erupt there, as per the beginning of the manga. All in all, good set up episode. |

I'm also wondering if it's gonna take a less-philosophical approach this time. I mean, this episode was basically non-stop, balls-to-the-wall action, while the previous initial story was essentially a flashy debate on the nature of God, man, science, and all that stuff. |

Well amusingly after the point where the first anime stopped adapting the manga; action started coming in by the bucketloads. |

Ah, I see. I only followed the manga for about 6-8 volumes, so I never really saw how it changed. Everything seems a tad more...OUTRAGEOUS in this, in addition. |

Yeah, I gotta recommend getting back into the manga. If you think this first episode is OUTRAGEOUS, your mind will be blown by a lot of the stuff in the later volumes. Sure, it hits another slump for a little while, but now it's got OUTRAGEOUS by the bucketloads. |

Good. When I tried Shinsen earlier, their torrents were dead, and the gss release just gave me error messages whenever I tried to watch it. |

I hope that the "skill of mixing storytelling and action which has been passed down through the Armstrong's family line" will be applied. |

Lots of Hohenheim this early on feels weird. Not bad, but weird. Doesn't match up to the anime OR the manga. I'm still hoping this isn't a third universe, but a manga adaption though. Even if the third universe is totally awesome, I need me some Barry the Chopper x Hawkeye animated action. |

So like, is this a retelling, a continueation of the old anime, or what? I've seen like 3 episodes of the original and don't read the manga so hell if I know. And seeing the 2chan thread, why is the Brown girl from the old series now white? |

It's pretty much a remake starting from ground zero... going with the manga. That "world" guy also shows up in one form or another in the manga, so... And as for the people of Liore magically turning white, I guess it's Japan not wanting to offend the middle-east. Consider what they did with Setsuna and the Kurdish becoming "Kurgis" instead. It's the only way that it makes sense, but Rose being white now is kinda insultingly stupid. |

It's in the preview of episode 2. Everyone in that damned town are now paler than white laundry after being hit by bleach. Or alternatively, for a more obvious joke, they're as white as Michael Jackson now. |

Snooping around some of the american and slightly the japanese forums, and they apparently always were white according to the staff, but the deal was there weren't ever any actual color palletes for anything back then so the animation studio decided to just make everyone in the town black/brown since it was a desert area. Canon color tones were always light skinned. |

This episode tried very, very hard to let everyone know this is the manga continuity. Skipping Tucker, showing gate-boy, letting the audience see Trisha's homunculus die a horrible death, and more seemed like they were revealed early and explicitly just so that everyone knew where this was going. Which isn't a bad thing. As an added plus, it skips straight to the story proper, and we may get through all the re-hashed plot points before episode 12~ish. |

And those filler-episodes from the novels. Sure, while I liked "the other brothers Elric," it was a little unnecessary. |

I hope they're just trying to get through these sections quickly... because the dialogue, animation, characterizations, and everything else right down the line flat out suck compared to the original anime series. Blech, next episode is Tucker. That'll never work as a stand-alone episode... it only worked so well in the original because Nina and Tucker were around for 2-3 episodes beforehand, helping Ed and Al and establishing themselves as real characters. It'll probably suck as hard as the Lior episode. =/ They should have just skipped it. |
