It's Like You're Carrying the Weight of the World~

Well, I went to the one day of Comic Con that I managed to get a ticket to. I wish I'd bought them earlier this year. >_< Anyway, I managed to get sneak peaks at a few games, catch the Bandai panel, and bump directly into Adam Sessler, in the literal sense. XD

For starters, the random on-the-floor celebrity sightings we Adam Sessler and Stan Lee. I weaved through a crowd into Stan Lee's personal bubble by accident when I didn't realize why everyone had gathered into such a small area, which security didn't like too much. I quickly made my escape into the crowd again. As for Sessler... I was walking up on a group of alt-color Boba Fetts, who were posing for a bunch of cameras as a group. I decide not to block their shots, and squeeze behind them... Adam Sessler was directly behind the crowd, completely unnoticed by anyway despite being a pseudo-celebrity, and I ran into him. Again, security didn't seem to pleased, so I just made a comment about how funny it was that such a large crowd had formed around him in order to ignore him in favor of Star Wars nerds and took my leave.

I only made it to 2 panels, both of which I had to get to ridiculously early to earn a spot in the room. The Bandai one I'll detail below, but the other was for the Sword of Truth TV show that's coming out soon. It's got a campy name: "Legend of the Seeker". It's got a campy production group: the guys who made Hercules and Xena. And it had a very campy trailer. Also, Terry Goodkind is still freaking nuts and masturbating to Ann Rand's objectivism whenever someone gives him an excuse to bring it up in public. I'm not impressed. I expected better, Sam Raimi! Better!

Anime

I'll talk about the Bandai panel next. They've got the rights to Hayate the Combat Butler now, and mentioned a whole bunch of projects. Saw a Gundam 00 dub trailer, and the voice cast seems pretty solid. Saw the same old Geass and Gurren trailers. Kamina-Gohan made me facepalm again. News on Gundam 00 though- it'll be on the Sci-Fi channel in November. Seriously, Adult Swim seems to be dicking around, and a lot of good shows seem to be going to Sci-Fi now.

They also announced they're bringing over all three Code Geass manga. Lelouch of the Rebellion, the TV series adaption, Suzaku of the Counterattack, the alt-view of the TV series, and best of them all Nightmare of Nunally. Hell yes. I was only one of 2 people in the room who recognized Nightmare of Nunally and cheered the name. XD

More big Geass news: in the Q&A, someone asked about the Code Geass video games. Bandai of America is currently in talks to acquire the rights to them, so we may actually see Lost Colors and such over here some day.

Finally, there's the news on Bandai Visual. Now that it's merged into Bandai Entertainment, they had a rep at the panel, and I think even he knew that he was the bad guy of the show. XD Anyway, we'll be seeing simultaneous Japan/American releases from them in the future on Blu-Ray, but only on Blu-Ray. Prices have dropped a bit too... I say the Diebuster movie on Blu-Ray for $50... but not knowing the pricing on Blu-Ray movies, I don't know if that's good or not. They'll also be including dubs when possible... the Diebuster movie is getting a dub, for example. I asked the BV rep after the show, and he said they have no intention of dropping prices on their old DVDs though, and would no longer do new DVD releases. BV still sucks, even as part of Bandai Entertainment. =/

Video Games

Well, I saw Street Fighter and Soul Calibur 4 in action. They had multiple SF4 tournaments going all day, and Soul Calibur was running on a Namco/Bandai booth. I didn't try my hand at either... but they look decent, I suppose. Seeing Melty Blood on some random dude's laptop later in the day excited me far more than either of them did. XD

As for what I got to play... the first upcoming game I sat down with was Afro Samurai. And it sucks. It's the same old generic XXXYYY*insta-kill* slash-em-up that was old by the time Dynasty Warriors 3 came out. In fact, it's worse than a Dynasty Warrior game, because Afro there's no way to block or dodge. All you can do is button mash. That's about it.

I also got my hands on Castle Crashers. Dear god is that game fun~! Even with completely strangers, 4 player coop was a blast. There's several 'colors' of knights, and each has unique magics at their disposal. After each level, you can level up that knight, allocating stats to Strength, Magic or other stats. The magic is pretty cool, and between the bow and the various melee attacks, it seems to be a lot of fun. It's also got the Gears of War "tap this button a lot to revive your buddy" that lets you bring back dead allies... which is funny, because after beating the boss of the demo and rescuing the princess, it becomes a deathmatch between all 4 players to claim her for themselves. XD

I bought:
-Pens that'll work on my Vinyl battlemat.
-A set of white on black die, and a set of black on white die.
-A set of brass die... not brass coated, actual brass die. Yeah, I'm a nerd.
-A Penny Arcade Deep Crow poster. I made fun of Mike Krahulik for taking my money and totally forgetting to sign and give me the poster I just paid for. Kiko gave me change, and then it was like they expected me to leave with nothing or something. XD
-Fables 10: The Good Prince... which was awesome, although I don't entirely understand where the hell all of Ambrose's power came from.
-World War Z Audio Book... it's done with a full cast, with sound effects and such, and giving the original books content, it just seemed to fit. I had to have it.

Magic Arthurian Frog Armor as far as I could figure. >>

BV sucks.

Glad to hear Castle Crashers is awesome (all of the Xbox people are buying this right?)

Disappointing about Afro Samurai. ><

Lancelot couldn't do any of that stuff, except the not-dying part. He couldn't cancel all magic in a massive radius of his choosing, or steal magic, or any of the rest. And I certainly missed the part of the Arthurian legend where Excalibur let ghosts resume physical forms. It all seemed.... fairly random.

Arthurian Legend never made Arthur a girl, either. But that didn't stop Type-Moon from taking "creative liberties" with the material, did it? XD

Well I meant that they seemed to keep pretty close to Arthurian legend for Lancelot's backstory. The unending power of the armor seemed to come out of left field after spending most of an issue explaining that it only kept you alive if you're virtuous without a single mention of its other powers.

I think it had to do more with Ambrose basically being Jesus. >>

Did I mention that Bandai said Gundam 00 was going to the Sci-Fi channel? At least I think they said that. It's one of those things that just sort of came to me a long while after the fact, so I could be wrong.
