Well, I've seen it, and I've got good news! It's still great. They kicked off the event with the producer of the anime introducing himself to us, and then a series of trailers for other new acquisitions; Kagaku no Railgun, Unlimited Blade Works and Highschool of the Dead are all already slated for dubbed releases here. They then aired a recap clip of the first two seasons, primarily focusing on Rock's development. Then came the actual episode. First off, we've got a brand new opening and ending. . . sort of. The OP is now a remixed version of Red Fraction that isn't quite as catchy, but does show off a bit more of the non-Revi portion of the crew than the old one did. And the ending is. . . The Saints Go Marching In. I kid you fucking NOT. Not sure if I like that part. Felt really weird to have that placed over Roberta's ward talking about important stuff just before the credits rolled. >_> Now. . . I can say the episode was good. Do you guys want plot spoilers, or for me just to talk about my general impression of the episode? |

Yeah, I'm hoping it's a placeholder ED. Weird. XD As for general impressions, the episode started off spending a dozen or so minutes catching up with Roberta and the Lovalace family, and the crew of the Black Lagoon didn't even show up until about the 15 minute mark. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, however, because it did a good job of reminding people how crazy Roberta is, and set up the mystery of "Where is Roberta?" for the rest of the episode. The action and dark comedy elements are still in full swing, as was evidenced by the scene change to Roanapur. Revy is hilariously sadistic in this episode despite not actually doing any fighting, while a new character stole the proverbial show in a gun battle in everyone's favorite bar. Rock himself seems to have hardened a lot too after his experiences in Japan, although he's certainly starting to carry some emotional baggage. He carries Yukio's picture in his wallet everywhere he goes now, with a big red "X" drawn over her face, and that red "X" haunts him as he's presented with another opportunity to try to help someone decent in the blackened city he lives in. Outwardly though, he's far from emo; he's first introduced in the episode by collecting loans and threatening a guy who runs a Russian Roulette gambling room! Overall, I'm excited by the return of the Lovelace family, although I'm unsure if the introduction of the new character related to them was strictly necessary; we'll see how that pans out in the episodes to come. The quality of the show is still most definitely spot-on though. I had three friends with me who'd never seen Black Lagoon before, and the recap video and episode were enough to make them want to buy the boxsets. So be excited. Be very excited! |
