Trying it out now. It's pretty awesome, and getting actual voices during the skits is a nice change after playing the US version of Symphonia and watching my roommate play the US version of Abyss.

Yeah, Present-time Dhaos is a freaking BEAST. You woop him in the past, and he warps into the present with all the fury of a roaring gale. I think I BARELY beat him... with only Klarth and Cless alive. You really just need to combo the heck out of him with spells while Cless keeps him at the far edge, and press him so he doesn't use too many spells. Eventually he'll bust out the laser, but he doesn't do it more than twice in a row, so if you use your items right, you should be able to keep a couple of your guys alive at the end of it.

Still, he's not as bad as the boss at the bottom of the Moria Mine. You remember that dragon thing you fought when you flew into the skies in the past? Imagine that, only instead of spitting weak little fireballs a few feet in front of it, it shoots long-range, impossibly fast fireballs that pass through all members of your party and make keeping spellcasters alive and useful absolutely impossible. It was basically Chester and Cless healing with items constantly, and spamming their best skills in between.

I'm fighting Dhaos in the past. I can't beat him. =/

I guess maybe I'll try and level up a bit, my party's 30-32. Hopefully it'll help. >>;;

...Ouch. He was hard in the past, but harder in the present. You've got a lot to look forward to. XD A few tips:

-Tap L at the start in order to keep your party on the far side of the screen, then rush Dhaos. Hopefully Mint can keep you alive, but don't expect to with the battle on your own. You probably already know how hard Dhaos is to combo.

-Make sure Arche is only using Indignation, and Klarth Luna. And make sure they're CONSTANTLY spamming it, even if you have to command it yourself. Also, put Mint on just continually casting Nurse. Every time the animation ends, give her the command again. That'll help keep your deaths down.

-If you're in a pinch, spam items. Cless in particular can get them out incredibly fast, to the point that you'll sometimes even get one out DURING Dhaos Laser. Also of note is that if you get a Life Bottle out just before a character dies, the target character will still come back, even though the whole party was dead for a second or two.

-You NEED Klarth or Arche to finish the battle. Mint's good, but if Dhaos is close to dead, focus on keeping on of them alive while you keep pressing Dhaos.

-Can't remember which of Cless' skills I was using in that fight, but Thunder Claw is a great early-game attack. Also, don't forget you can combo your techs into an Ougi tech.

-Leveling can't hurt, but 30-32 doesn't sound too bad. Your main problem is just that Dhaos is freaking hard.

...

Noobs.

XD

j/k

Dhaos is a bitch in the PSX version, since Indignation doesn't do as much damage as you'd expect it to (like the SNES version's).

Yeah, I heard Indignation did like 8000-9000 damage to him in the SNES version. Also, he only had 16,000 hp in the present, instead of 46,000 or something like that.

8-9k?! I wish it did that much here. ;_;

I got close to beating the bastard just now, but he did 2 Dhaos Lasers and that tetra attack back to back. =/

Well, if you keep items in mind, you should be able to bull your way through him eventually. I was lucky, I think... I got him quick enough that he never had a chance to Dhaos Laser in the past. Hmmm... all I can really say at this point is keep yourself up in his face. He seems less likely to use spells and Dhaos Laser if you're pressing him in melee. Good luck! XD

I beat him! Thanks for the help, I completely owned him this time around. He didn't even have much chance to attack (except for when he stunned Cless once) since he was in a constant Indignation/Luna loop, with Thunder Claw being used (which seemed to work much better than my other techs, including stuff like Phoenix Storm since it seemed to make him pause for a moment).

He didn't even have a chance to cast Dhaos Laser this time. XD

Edit: OMFG, Dhaos in the present is so freaking hard. O_O I was barely able to do 8k damage before he owned me. =/

XD If you can, level up Cless until he gets Shishisenkou, then chain it back to back with Majinhienkyaku (pretty sure you mastered it already) or any Ougi.

Does that work on him? I don't think I tried the knockdown skills against Dhaos...

Anyway, yeah, the Thunder Claw/Luna/Indignation loop is still your best bet in the present... but even with it, it took me 2-3 tries to get him. And when I did get him, everyone died when he had 3k hp left, and I was jumping from character to character with Life Bottles in an attempt to not lose. Managed to finally keep Cless up long enough to bring up Klarth for one last Luna before melee killing him. -_-;;

Oh, and I almost forgot... did you get Arche's God Breath spell? That should work fairly well... maybe even better than Indignation this time around. Stupid invincibility frames.

EDIT: Here's the Present time Dhaos change info:
Quote:

3) The Indignation spell isn't anywhere NEAR as a effective on Dhaos in
    the Past/Present! Remember how it did like 5000-6000 damage, and then
        how he screams at you for using it? In the PSX version, it only does
        about as much as a common enemy (about 2000 at the time) and he doesn't
    get pissy at you.

4) Dhaos in the present is MUCH more difficult! You thought he was difficult
    on SFC... wait till you fight him now! Remember how he was stronger than
    Dhaos in the past, but had like 15000/45000 HP? Well, guess what now?
    He's even strongerthan that, and has a FULL 45000/45000 HP! Skillful
    waza use with Cless should pronounce you the victor, though.

What level does Cless learn Shishisenkou? This dungeon's monsters give horrible exp, so I probably won't be able to get it (My Cless is at 33). >>;

Yeah, I got God Breath. I'll use that on him this time.

*goes to try and fight him again... ;_;*

Hmm... if I understand the SNES guide right, you get it at 31... but I could be wrong. Or it could have changed in the PS1 version. The PS1 guide sadly doesn't mention the level you get that tech at.

OMFG!!!! THAT WAS SO FREAKING CLOSE!!!!

I was doing really well with a Maxwell/God Breath loop (Maxwell seemed to be more effective than Luna for some reason), and Cless was just using Demonic Kick (Thunder Claw wasn't as useful for me since Dhaos kept moving too much). At about 10k hp, he used Dhaos Laser (twice...). I manged to fully heal during the first laser but only Arche and Cless survived. I panicked and used an elixir on both of them, and kept up with just the two of them. The second Dhaos Laser came, and I used a healing item on Arche (60%) during the laser, she lived but Cless died. Arche had 300 hp left, and managed to survive long enough for two God Breaths since Dhaos' first attack targetted Cless' ghost. XD I almost had a heart attack when I won. XD

I love how they're all cheering about how they defeated Dhaos, but within a few moments they find out that he's owning the future. XD

I wish Chester would have gained some levels. >>;;

Sounds sort of like how I did it. XD

Anyway, I'd suggest putting Chester in your party. If you buy him a weapon as soon as you hit the future, he'll do pretty good damage, and level up fairly quickly. He also gets a few free levels when you rest at inns as you continue on. In the end, he becomes a HUGE help, since he's got better hp/defense than your casters, and can dish out heavy damage without a big casting time once he hits higher levels. I couldn't have beaten the Moria Mine bonus boss without him.

And yeah, Dhaos owning the future was a funny moment. Just when you think you've won, you get meteor stormed. XD Have fun traveling through time to get to Dhaos again! This is when all the sidequests open up too, so be aware of that.

Cool, I'll replace Klarth with him for now I suppose. His new weapon has 400 attack. Oo;;

I went to the inn twice and got the Chester scene (lots of levels!) and a neat scene with Cless. So, if I have that title equipped, and I press those buttons, I can do a new ougi? What does it mean by pinch, red hp?

I also found 2 new ougis in the first village~

What weapon should I get for Cless? Damascus Sword has 350 Slash/315 Thrust but the Sadain Glaive has 210 Slash/424 Thrust. I'm leaning towards the sword, but I'm not really sure.

Yeah, when your hp goes red you can use the special tech. As for the weapon... maybe Damascus Sword. It's got a higher total attack, when thrust and pierce are combined, which means your jump attack will be stronger. And you should know by now that the jump attack is your best non-tech attack.

Also, make sure you Rune Bottle the Emerald Ring you got from Dhaos. It'll morph it into a Fairy Ring, which halves TP costs instead of dropping them by 1/3. Basically, it means one of your casters will be able to use their best attacks against grunt enemies without worrying about TP.

Go fight in the Euclid coliseum ASAP, and once you get to the swordsman enemy fights, SAVE. Kill them over and over a ?WEAPON appears, which turns into a Saint Rapier for ~1200 Stab, IIRC. If you don't get the drop, reset over and over until you do. You can basically live off SR now and sell it later after you get Eternal Sword. Also, after you get the Rare Birds, fly over to Aegis' Island, and go after Fenrir first. Saint Rapier does awesome damage (Light elemental), after which Vorpal sword will help a lot more at killing Flammy (she's hawt).

Also, I would equip the Fairy Ring on Cless so you can whore his techs. Second piece can either be Moonstone if you haven't already maxed out his TP, or Feat Symbol (10% Atk).

I tried for the weapon, but was unsuccessful, so I just stopped. >>;; I did get the Vorpal Sword first though (<3 Jigenzan). And I have 3 of those TP reducing rings now~

The battle against Flamberke was awesome! XD All of my guys except Cless died almost immediately, but I decided to continue on. Cless with Jigenzan=freaking godly. He took out the regular monsters in one hit, damaged the boss, and then he got down to red hp. I used the Hi-Ougi for the first time, and took her out with it. <3 the damage.

I really liked the whole ninja subplot. It was neat and had some very funny scenes (the hotsprings XD).

XD Yes, Meikuuzanshouken is THE most badass Hi-Ougi of all Tales. Don't believe me? Try using Reid's Mougourengekiha's Hi-Ougi chain on Mania Cless and watch yourself get pwned by some 30 hits of 9999 damage, not to mention it's actually Jigenzan + Meikuuzanshouken = Eternal Blade.

Jigenzan is by FAR the most useful skill you can get, so whore it! When you get Kuukanshouteni, it'll be worth whoring as well, since the little soul waves you generate can hit up to 10 times - raping an enemy against walls has never been so easy.

Sukebe Daimaou as a title being rated = ?!?!?!!!#$@#$ XD

I don't know the Katakana names, but the one that creates an orb around you, and then lets you come down with a giant energy sword always seemed the best skill to me... hell, I couldn't have beaten Odin without it. Spamming that literally won me the battle. XD
