I almost don't want to bother getting attached to it until a season 2 is confirmed. ><

But what if you're not watching is the reason it fails? ...not that any of us can affect the damn Nielson ratings anyway.

I actually did a Nielson ratings survey one time. I guess I don't watch enough TV to get a box. ><

There are only three shows I watch and I'm ready to drop Heroes if it is lame again. ><

I was wondering when this would air. I'll have to grab it from Hulu now.

A little much for the first episode... and by that, I mean the whole abuse thing. I think that aspect was a little strong to start things off with. Not... terrible. But not good enough for me to make up my mind in a positive way either. I'm withholding judgment.

Second episode is better. They're trying to jam a lot into these episodes. Desperate to get good ratings? and less flashbacks please... this isn't Lost.

While her performance was better here, I'm not convinced Dushku can pull this off. But I'm gonna keep watching.

I'm actually enjoying a show about marketing more. >.>

I think I know what Dollhouse is missing... and it's two things. One is humor. Joss Whedon's shows usually have this snarky tone, and although they handle serious stuff often enough, there's usually a lot of humor. Case in point: Mal and Wash's argument while being tortured in Firefly. In Dollhouse however, there's very little in the way of that kind of humor. The active "engineer" nerd-dude gets a little of that, but everyone else seems pretty stonefaced 99% of the time.

The other problem is Echo herself... she's our main character, but she doesn't have a personality, so what's to like? Yeah, she carries a few of her memories from episode to episode, but it hasn't instilled itself as an actual personality yet, so what's the point? Why do I care? The show should follow her Handler, Boyd, much more closely if it wants to be successful, as he's a character who both has personality and you can empathize with, which is rare among this cast.

EDIT: Finished watching the newest episode... I put this post up as I started it. Hmm... I'm hoping that, if Dollhouse will improve, it'll be soon. Echo, and maybe that other active, are apparently already self-aware... Echo took note of the security emplacements in the Dollhouse and motioned for that active not to speak to her yet at the end of the episode. Which is a bit more than just random words or phrases trickling in from her subconscious as we've been seeing in the last two episodes. Here's hoping for the best?

Other thoughts: I almost wonder if this whole Dollhouse idea is a leftover table scrap from Firefly. I mean, what's going on here doesn't sound too different from what Blue Sun wanted to do to River... I bet something like this would have been addressed at some point, had Serenity sold well enough to resurrect the TV series. And it would've been better told too, given a large cast of likable characters with excellent writing to support it.

I have a feeling this show isn't gonna last long. As it is right now, I won't miss it.

And I was under the impression that there were 3 main dolls or was that scrapped? 2 girls and a dude. Or could it be that they're introducing them slowly. With this last one being the first of the two.

Well, I think we know the 3 main dolls... but the other two haven't bee fully incorporated yet. The other girl doll had a big role in this last episode, and the guy doll was the one playing the cop and getting him in trouble.

Watched it... you're right, it wasn't half bad. Although I still need a bit more from blank-slate Echo to really feel for her 100%. Hopefully we get it soon... anyway, anyone else think Alpha isn't trying to kill Echo, but to restore some sort of personality to her? He's putting her in tight spots, but everything he's done seems bent towards forcing her to remember other aspects of who she is other than just the personality she's currently borrowing.

...in retrospect, I laughed at my "tight spots" comment. Dolls really do seem to just be prostitutes most of the time. XD

Good episode. I mean it, it's easily the best so far. It helped that the side-plot was humor based though. Penis jokes are funny. "Man Reaction". Heh.

*cough*

So who wants to place bets on whether Agent Ballard's neighbor is working for either the Dollhouse or Alpha? She seems too convenient, acts odd at certain times(such as leaving upon seeing what Alpha's note had in it, not to mention delivering it), and is pretty darn weird overall.

We learn a few things. One is that as long as the ratings are good, they can go on forever. :P

I was about to make a post about it, too. I guess you put yours up when I started watching it. XD

Anyway, yeah, this was a great episode. Although the last episode was entertaining for re-introducing humor, this one is the first one that really drew me in and made me long for what'll come next. We see the humor stay pretty constant, we see the plot turn away from episodic content, and we get a lot of characterization and plot twists along with all of it.

I totally called Neighbor Girl's role, although I admit I wasn't thinking about that when Boss Lady sent Rapist Guy to her. Man, I need to remember some of these names. XD Anyway, the twist delivered by Echo was pretty good though. The link Shin put up suggested it was sent by the tech, or his assistant... but I almost wonder if it could be the doctor. Hard to say either way, really, but it's probably one of those three.

Yeah, that episode was entirely forgettable. It established a few important plot points, but failed to do so in an interesting way. Next week could be awesome though. The premise of the episode sounds like it'd be tough to screw up.

Plus the "origin" story is very underwhelming.
