"C'mon Diana. "Let's get going, okay?"

"Ah, of course Sir Kupek." Avoiding looking at the shopkeeper, Diana stepped out of the shop with the moogle... where she stared at the sight of Nicus fleeing from a warking, angry chochobo.

"Wonder what Teacher did to get Jameson so mad, kupo... Wasn't he just asleep?"

"'Teacher'?" The summoner-in-training turned to look curiously at Kupek.

"'Teacher'?"

Kupek blinked and looked to Diana before smiling sheepishly. "Well...yeah, sorta. Kinda, kupo." He pointed the mekka's hand over at Nicus, tracking the white fuzzy blur with his finger.

"As a wise old Mog, Nicus-kupo agreed to teach me what he knows about smithing -he's a blacksmith, y'see- and stuff. So in turn, I agreed to teach him what I know about chemistry. So it's different from a regular/student teacher thing. I call him that 'cause it seems like it's the respectful thing to do."

Diana looked back at the fleeing moogle. Somehow, at that moment, he looked nothing like the 'wise old Mog' that Kupek said he was. But there was no point pursuing the matter at the moment. She turned to Kupek again.

"What... is chemistry like?"

"Actually, the hammer is still pretty heavy. The side with the spike on it is pretty much all solid," Lufia explained once they were out of the shop, "On the side without the spike, there's a hollowed out compartment that I store some non-fragile things: Basically just Gil and a spare set of clothes. Heheh."

"Should we go and check things out?"

"That's...pretty nifty, kupo." The young moogle said in honest surprise.

"Should we go and check things out?"

"I'm not so sure we should jump into that mix just yet. Maybe when Jameson calms down..." A small trickle of sweat slid down the moogles temple as he thought of the angry chocobo barreling down on him.

"What... is chemistry like?"

"Eh?" Kupek turned his head to look at Diana. Her curious expression made his heart pound, and he looked up to the sky nerviously. "Well, uh...it's pretty cool. It's like making magic, but with elements and liquids rather than using your own energies."

"Although...it's quite hard to be precise in battle unless you're really skilled. The magic you can do is way better for fighting," he added. "Like with the bees- you could cast lightning or fire in a precision strike, while the best I could do is toss a firebomb that might have burned down the whole town if I wasn't careful. I need to get better."

He clenched the mekka's fist, looking down at it, and his pom-pom bobbed downward as well.

Diana shook her head. "What you do... is amazing. I... barely understand how you can make these potions... and ethers... and they can do so much..." Not knowing what else to say, she looked down, and fiddled with her staff.

"Don't sweat it, Kupek," Lufia said, "Sending a spell to multiple targets isn't really easy either. It take a lot of focus and understanding of magic flow to get things to hit correctly and on a timely basis. One has to practice and learn how to do things right, just like with throwing an item precisely and accurately."

“Thanks you two,” Kupek said, and he looked up at the mages. That they were both trying to comfort him brightened his mood almost instantly. But it was Diana’s nervousness that made him blush once more. “I’ll do my best to improve, kupo.”

“I do wonder though, kupo. I know Lufia went to the magic academy, but who how did you learn magic, Diana?”

"Ah..." Diana looked back up at Kupek. "I... was tutored in the art by my parents... for as long as I can remember. It is... part of my summoner training... to grasp firmly the foundations of magic." She shifted her staff. "I... had to make this staff... by myself too, as part of my training."

"Trained by your folks? I had some training from my pop, but he kept insisting I take on a chemist teacher. But your folks sound really nice, taking the time to pass their knowledge on like that," he smiled.

Kupek then looked at the staff itself. "Does it have powers of its own, kupo?"

Diana shook her head. "It is just... a simply conduit for magic... and nothing more."

"Being able to make something that can help focus magic is still really impressive," Lufia chimed in, "How long did it take you to learn how to make it?"

Diana blushed. "It's... just part of my training, is all. I spent... 2 to 3 years... learning how to make the staff itself... but without the knowledge I had gained earlier... it would had been impossible."

"It is just... a simply conduit for magic... and nothing more."

"Oh...I see, kupo," the young moogle said quietly with a nod. That means everything she does in battle is all her...wow... he smiled dreamily once more, but was snapped back to reality by Lufia, who spoke up: "Being able to make something that can help focus magic is still really impressive, How long did it take you to learn how to make it?"

Kupek blinked, and then nodded in agreement. He looked to Diana as she answered.

"It's... just part of my training, is all. I spent... 2 to 3 years... learning how to make the staff itself... but without the knowledge I had gained earlier... it would had been impossible."

"So then...it's like you carry a physical version of your knowledge with you, kupo! That's really awe inspiring!" He looked to Lufia, to see if she agreed with his assessment.

Diana blushed again. "It- it's nothing like that at all! I- I meant that without that knowledge, I wouldn't have been able... to understand how to craft the staff... in the proper fashion, is all. I'm... I'm nothing special, really...."

She looked down. That last bit wasn't really true, was it? Her parents had mentioned things like 'a great destiny', and there were other things that she had heard, in bits and pieces, that she wasn't supposed to hear... but she didn't like thinking about it. She didn't want to think about it. She was just Diana Hypello, summoner-in-training, and nothing more.
