The Blade that Cuts Injustice
|
"I don't think we have anyone capable of that," Derry replied, "Though I have a possible suggestion." The Viera thought it over once to map out how to put it into words. "If Kupek can indeed produce a number of smoke bombs, we should put them to use. When they inevitably pass through, we set them off, blanketing them in fog. Lufia brings down her hammer to throw them off balance as Kupek's mekka takes the stage in a blazing display of bombs and Thunder provided by our Red Mage while myself, our archer captain, and our rifleman rain projectiles down on them. If we use their supersticious fears against them, we can drive them further into a bomb trap set up by Kupornicus which should thin their lines enough for the warriors to charge in dominate their confused forces as the first group rejoins the battle from behind. They're tough in numbers but hardly smart. If we keep them confused and intimidated, we should be able to defeat them ourselves or at least hold them here until another group arrives." |

Having remained quiet for the last few minutes, Sendis nodded at Derry. "I like it. Derry's plan has my vote." |

Kupek listened to the others and nodded the mekka's head in approval of Derry's plan. "I'd be willing to give it a go, kupo! I should have enough supplies to whip up a good amount of bombs and smoke to get the job done." |

"Aye, Derry has my vote. And mine grenades are at the your disposal," Nicus said, hefting the satchel on his side. "Too bad we have not a Summoner nor a Black Mage at our disposal here. A Summoning of Fire on them or Haste for us, or a Black Mage's simple access to more powerful spells would give us a might more powerful edge in this sort of fight..." "Though I still think we ought just charge the ranks head-on, personally. They only outnumber us by about... well I just think it's good enough odds mehself." |

"If you put it that way," Dani said, "What we really need is a rockslide or something. No matter what we do they're going to outnumber us. But, we aren't near any mountains..." |

"Dani, maybe you could cast an area-of-effect poison over them just after I knock a bunch of them down," Lufia suggested, "I can cure myself with Esuna, so it wouldn't matter if I was in the middle of it." |

"If we can't do an earthquake or landslide, what about a quagmire?" Zereal suggested. "Just need a Quake and Water spell chain-cast." |

"I don't think we have water spells available," Lufia replied as she continued to watch the Goblins advance in the distance, "They're also getting closer so we had better finalize this makeshift plan soon." |

"I've been studying Water, actually," Dani said, "But I don't think we have Quake. The Poison could work, though." |

"Dropping a Poison spell in the midst of the initial chaos should throw them further into despair," Derry reflected, "I like it." He thought for a second. "If you could also wash them with a Water spell before initiating the Thunder theatrics, we should be able to take even more of them out at the start." |

"And for the Quake..." Kailan added... "We can use lady Lufia Quake attack to make up for the lacking of a real Quake Spell..." |

"I'd still prefer a course of action that doesn't involve one of our team spending any amount of time in the middle of an army of hostiles," he responded, shaking his head. |

"We don't have much of a choice," Dani replied, "Since most of our team isn't capable of much long-range combat. That's the problem with picking teams by Lottery." She frowned. "And unless It's changed recently, the hammer doesn't actually have Quake Magic, so it can't actually be cast that way... though the synergy might still work a little." |

"Whichever course of action we take, can we please perform it soon? The more time we spent debating how to attack, the closer the enemy advances upon us. If we don't act soon, we're going to lose the element of surprise." Rai informed the others. Inwardly, he just wanted to get out there and start taking them out one by one. The previous plans sounded like they'd work, but no one was capitalizing on them. He heaved a sigh and rested his weapon against his head, waiting for the order to attack. |

Zereal rubbed his chin, then spoke. "Does anyone have a way of making a very loud noise somewhere in the distance? If we just throw bombs and shoot arrows at them, even the dumbest Goblin will know where we are, but if we trick them..." |

"True," said Derry, "But even the dumbest Goblin isn't going to want to be where bombs, thunder, and arrow death are coming from. Let me specify some things." He rubbed his neck. They were taking way too much time preparing for this, and if they kept talking their indecision and hesitation was going to forfeit any possible plan they could come up with. "The inital part of the plan is about surprise, intimidation, and confusion which shouldn't be too hard to inflict on Goblins regardless of their group size," the Viera explained, "I never planned on having Lufia jump straight into the middle of the enemies either. We wait until the last Goblin marches just past us and ignite the smoke bombs. As the air fills with haze, Dani can cast her Poison spell from her hidden perch as Lufia leaps down with her hammer quake. Kupek and his Mekka will jump immediately after Lufia and land in front of her to create the illusion of it causing the tremor. Shaken up and poisoned, the surprised Goblins will be in for a rude awakening when they suddenly see lots of bombs and thunderbolts flying at them and blowing them up while a cloud of arrows tears into them. Having fought quite a few Goblins throughout my 66 years, that should be more than enough to intimidate them into pulling back to regroup." "When that happens, the second phase begins. Our initial attack should push them into a field of hidden bombs set up by Nicus. When they go off, another chunk of their forces should be destroyed instantly and in the confusion, our warriors can join the fight. By then their group should be much smaller. Still big, yes, but small enough to handle if we fight intelligently from then on. If Dani wants to try the Water and Thunder trick at this point it'll likely be very beneficial, but our warriors would have to make sure they stay out of its radius while we move in to sandwich them from the other side. Some buffers beforehand would also be helpful." "You can take it or leave it, but we are running out of time to prepare anything." |

"Hmm..." Raidou let out, thinking on the plan for a few moments. After looking down to his blade for a few moments, he nodded and looked towards Derry. "Me and my blade are ready to move forward at any time. We have only a little bit of time left before they cross the point where the plan will gradually lose effectiveness." he continued. Inwardly, he realized that part of it was just an excuse. he really wanted to get out there to sharpen his Cutlass on some Goblin bones. |

"Works for me," Dani said. "Has the virtue of simplicity, if nothing else, and I think it does a decent job of minimizing risk as much as possible with a team as weapon-oriented as this." |

Player Note: Hobbes gave me temporary control of Kupek until he returns. Hopefully it doesn't end badly... >< --- Kupek looked towards Derry, before nodding. "I'm on it, Kupo! I'll have those smoke bombs ready in no time. Just say the word and i'll detonate them!" Kupek spoke, before the Mekka moved away to begin making and setting up the smoke bombs. Meanwhile, Raidou observed Nicus walking off to get ready for his part of the plan, before moving to join him. Finally, it was time to jump into action and prove his worth as a fighter. |
