Nicus could hear the pride for his father in Kupek's voice. He nodded as sagely as he could while he listened. "He sounds like a good Mog, yes. He sounds like a great Mog to have worked with. Don't be afraid to let people know he was your father, those who matter will understand you say it out of pride for him, not an attempt to make yourself look better. Those who think you're trying to make yourself look better are already insecure with themselves, or so I've seen."

Nicus stretched and laid back a bit in the cart. "And if you intend to study alongside chemists and engineers like him, I suggest you take this one piece of advice from me. Those who have something to teach, will want to teach it. It has been my experience... outside of food... that those with something truly great to offer the world will want to spread it and see it grow any way they can. They'll teach you freely and openly, they'll smile with you as you endeavour to learn all they know, and they'll laugh as they learn something new from you. Look for those people. The ones with 'trade secrets'? Heh, mostly a bunch of fools looking for ways to increase the prices of their services and wares by utilizing some odd element in a standard process. The true innovators... they changed so they could do the job better. The fake ones just want to make money. Remember that!"

The young moogles eyes shone brightly as Nicus spoke, and he hung on the older Mog's every word.

"Yes, of course, kupopo!" Kupek's wings flapped happily, but he stayed firmly in place on his mekka. "Nicus kupo, you may be a blacksmith, but I would be honored if you would let me become your apprentice! I feel like I have so much to learn from you!"

"Apprentice kupo?!" Even Nicus couldn't help but let the exclamation slip. Apprentice?!

"Well... Apprentice." Nicus began to regain control of himself. This was unexpected, but at the same time... not surprising. "Young Mog, I'm still learning myself, I don't consider myself enough a blacksmith yet to take on an apprentice... I don't even have a right proper forge yet a-"

Nicus stopped himself. It sounded like he was trying to avoid the thing being asked of him... he was trying to avoid it. That wasn't right. He took a good long look at the Young Mog, seeing the enthusiasm and recognizing some of it as being all too familiar to him.

"I can't be your master to apprentice you, but I can share some knowledge I have, in exchange though, you must teach me what you know of engineering. We can learn together, as it were, learn from each other."

"It's a deal, kupo!" Kupek finally popped completely out of his Mekka and flew over to Jameson, bouncing in the air next to the chocobo before floating into the back the cart. He grabbed Nicus' hand and shook it well. Coming off of his high as he did so, the young Mog had a sudden realization.

"But...um...I'm not yet an Engineer... I'm still a Chemist, kupo. But I'll still teach you everyhing I know along the way!"

Manga-self revealed!
Remaining quiet as she followed the group, she watched as they others conversed before looking off again. Faris was beginning to wonder how a group, with this many differences, could get along without fighting all the time. 'Then again,' she smirked, visible eye straying back towards the others. 'I suppose with this cause, we can find a reason to get a long...'

"As long as we don't stab each other in the back..." she muttered quietly and looked towards Sendis.

Sendis blinked and looked at Faris, "Hm? I didn't quite catch that. Would you mind repeating it?"

"Well," Nicus just chuckled. "We can learn together then, aye? In the meantime..." Nicus yawned and leaned his head back against the side of the cart. "I think I will be taking a nap."

Derry's ears caught the other Viera's comment but decided a change of subject was probably better than letting a conflict spill out.

"So Sendis, I've noticed your crest," he said, "You must come from a noble family."

"Yes," Sendis said turning to Derry, holding up her spear. "House Lancaster is where I hail from."

"I see," said Derry with a nod, "I've never heard of them though. You must be from out of my area."

"Ah," the Viera let out, suddenly realizing where Faris's comment came from.

Then Derry smiled.

"No worries," he said, "My enemies are monsters. Foreigner or not, so long as our enemy is the same, I will watch your back regardless."

She smiled at the Viera and nodded, "Thank you, I'll be relying on your expert swordsmanship."

Museum Refugee
Just before noon, the sound of distant footsteps could be heard. Xin motioned her brother to stop the cart and listened intently. "Sounds like quite a group coming our way...and I don't think it's refugees."

"How long until we cross paths?" Laon asked.

After a second of calculation, the archer nodded. "I'd say another hour or so. Best to get into a good strategic position, hide the cart and animals somewhere safe, and prepare."

Dani put a bookmark in the tome she was reading, and slid it back into her pack. "All right," she said, "Where can we hide a cart around here?

Derry hopped up and scanned around.

"I see a burnt out barn," he said, sniffing the air, "The smell of ash should be strong enough to hide the Chocobo scent."

"Off to the side of the road is a good idea I think," Sendis said. "We can take up ambush positions as well." She turned to Derry, "Truly? Then I agree with Derry."

Nicus spoke even though his eyes were still closed. "Aye, I can smell the ash as well. So we intend to ambush them? This sits not well with me, I prefer the straightup fight."

Jameson just looked at Nicus critically, "Wark?"

"Okay, THAT time was an exception, that rat bastard deserved to be jumped in an alley."

"I don't know about ambush," Dani said, "but the more we know about them and the more options we have once we find out, the better. Not being seen seems like the best way to optimize that."

Lufia hopped off of the cart and to the nearest tree on the side of the road. Pulling a strap out of her robes, she clipped it to her oversized hammer and slung the heavy weapon over her shoulder and onto her back.

"Well, we are gonna ambush them, we'll have to make the initial hit as hard as possible," the White Mage said, "That being said... umm... could someone help me get up in this tree?"

"Alright, here..." Kai offered to Lufia as he obliged helping her in a gentleman way... "I wonder how it will be hard the impact of the falling hammer..." He questioned as he prepared to the ambush climbing another tree as well...

With a boost from Kai, Lufia managed to grab a sturdy limb and struggle her way up.

"Thanks a lot," she said, moving around so that her footing was on two limbs of the tree and bringing the hammer forward again. She then looked to Xin and Laon.

"I offer to make the initial hit for the ambush. From this height, there'll be a decent quake and knockdown effect once the hammer hits. It'll give a great opening for everyone else to come in."

Dani slid her coat off and doffed her hat. "I dunno how I'm supposed to hide in things like this," she said, offhandedly. "Red isn't a good hiding color..."

"Hey, come up here then, Dani," Lufia called, "It's darker in the branches and it provides more cover."
