Tip brings his free hand up to stroke his hairless chin, his gaze rising up towards the rafters. "Hmmm... that time of the month? It isn't unheard of, but where did you hear that Grian's were so affected the full moon? Generally, that is the domain of the wolf-men, is it not?"

"Trust me," Mac waved his hand slightly, grinning, "It's not the moon that deems those moods."
He paused slightly, thinking, "...though they may as well be, considering the change she went through."

"Intriguing, intriguing... the library did not have a book which described such things, but perhaps one shall be found at a later date." Tip wiggles a bit, as if trying to push himself further into the corner, before wrapping his arms around his book as if giving it a hug. "A shame it is such a late hour. The morning will be upon us soon, and even heroes need rest before confronting evil, be it a pack of goblins or an army of undead. Letting his head droop down in a way that anyone watching would have to assume will put a serious crick in his neck come morning, his glasses slide down his nose just enough to grant a glimpse at his eyes for the very first time. They are currently closed.

~The next day~

The group headed out an hour after sunrise, when the birds were singing and the dew was still fresh on the green grass. The villagers had loaned them a Chocobo-driven cart upon learning what the group's goal was. At present, Laon drove the cart while Xin sat shotgun, her elaborate bow across her lap.

"Think we'll see any more deposed villagers on the way?" she asked.

The knight shook his head. "At this point I doubt it. They're probably long gone by now, one way or the other."

Lufia sat in the back of the cart with her hammer by her side, taking a sip from a canteen of water. She had an decent night's sleep and was well rested for the battle to come.

"How was everyone's nights? All sleep well?" she asked, trying to lighten up the mood a bit.

"Really restful..." Kailan replied looking to the sky from the kart corner where he sat... "The air here is a lot better than in the cities or back home..." He explained... "No bad dreams, not bad rumors..."

"I've had better," Zereal responded, walking next to the cart. "Someone here snores."

"Well I was sleeping so I don't know if it was me..." The knight shrugged... "But I didn't even noticed if we were in the same room..."

With the mekka armor sitting indian style near the center of the cart, Kupek sat inside trying to shake off his sleepiness. How can I not be used to getting up this early yet? he asked himself in irritation. He took off his tiny spectacles and cleaned them off, keeping his eyes closed tightly as he did so.

Lufia spoke out nearby: "How was everyone's nights? All sleep well?"

"Really restful...The air here is a lot better than in the cities or back home...No bad dreams, not bad rumors..."

"Not very good, kupo. I had trouble falling asleep," Kupek's voice groggily echoed from within the armor. Suddenly the mekka sat up straight as the young moogle thought about how that sounded. "But not because I was scared about today or anything."

"I've had better. Someone here snores."

"Well I was sleeping so I don't know if it was me...But I didn't even noticed if we were in the same room..."

"It wasn't me, kupo." The mekka looked over to Tip, then Raidou, then Mac suspiciously.

Sendis coughed delicately, "I don't snore. It's unbecoming of a lady." Yes, yes that would do well enough. Now would they buy it?

"Even if someone snored, I don't think it'd affect me," Lufia said, tilting her head a bit, "I sleep like a rock. Dani can attest to that and the time she saved me from being robbed."

On a second though, it probably wasn't a good idea to mention that around Mac and Faris... Oh well.

"Yeah, that was interesting," Dani replied, looking up from the tome she was reading. "I don't even know what those punks thought you had. I heard it took the doctor three trips to get the fork out of that one guy's hand without causing serious nerve damage," she said, with a half-smile. "And I still can't believe you slept through the whole thing. Then again, I might have too," she amended. "I sleep like a rock... just not for very long." She yawned and stretched. "Still, I feel better just for being away from that town...

Faris yawned loudly from her spot near the back of the wagon, shifting slightly to avoid Lufia's hammer. "I don't snore..." she said, before adding quietly, "I don't think any Viera snore actually. It would have kept to many of us up at night." she tilted her head , silver hair bouncing slightly.

"Besides-" and reclined backwards, using whoever was behind as a brace, "as long as we got a decent rest, I'm quite sure we'll all be fine."

The moogle had been staring at the pile of ashes for almost an hour when the Chocobo returned, its dark green feathers ruffling as it approached the stunned creature. Jameson clacked its beak together and warked softly under its breath before it shook its head and began to nudge Kupornicus with its beak.

"... there's supposed to be a forge here." Nicus finally let out in response to Jameson's nudging. Jameson sighed.

"Wark!"

"Yes, I know that it's a pile of ashes. I can see that, my eyes still work. It hasn't changed from a pile of ashes in the hour I've been standing here looking at it. My confusion stems from the fact that there is SUPPOSED TO BE A FORGE HERE!"

"WARK!"

"No, this is definitely the place, I can even still see the remnants of the furnace! We did NOT take a wrong turn back at El Berkurk'e!"

"Wark?"

"Yeah, it just looks like everyone rushed out of here. Something must have caught fire in the meantime so it burned down. Pretty damned good too, they must have had a stockpile of charcoal and fuel for the furnace that ignited. Wonder what could have caused them to leave the forge so fast though..."

"Wark."

"The entire TOWN is deserted?! What's going on here?!" Nicus flapped his wings a few times in irritation as he turned to look at the rest of the town, for the first time noting how quiet and silent it was. It wasn't a large town, to be sure, but the forge had some repute and he had made the trip, but now it seemed like it had been all for naught.

"... what could drive a town full of people to just up and leave so quick the blacksmith left his forge going?" Nicus mused. Jameson's feathers ruffled in unease, the Chocobo didn't like this at all. Absent-mindedly Nicus stroked the bird where he could reach, before he tottered off, hammer comfortably sitting at his hip as he began to investigate. His business with the forge had already been concluded in his mind, no Smith worth his time would allow his forge to burn down so casually. Now there was the question of where everyone had gone, and if the tavern keeper had been as careless as the Smith to leave his beer taps flowing. The real tragedy of the day would be if there was no more ale to be had in the town.

"C'mon Jameson, lets go."

Dutifully the Chocobo followed its companion, scanning the area for danger all the while. Jameson didn't like this one bit, no kweh. Nicus entered the tavern a few moments later, disappearing into the dark interior...

"Kupo!"

Jameson's gaze fell upon the tavern in an instant, muscles tensing... feathers ruffling...

Nicus tottered out and gestured for the bird to come inside. "Ale's all here! Kupopo this is great! They can't charge you if they don't offer service, right? It's not theft, it's survival!"

Jameson was stunned for a moment, but as Nicus went back inside the scarred Chocobo seemed to shrug, and with only a bit of squeezing, went inside as well.

Walking just behind the cart, Micerhin groaned softly as he leaned backwards slightly - trying to crack his back and get it into something feeling like it resembled normal.
It wasn't helping, as the stiffness in his spine returned soon after the stretch ended.

"How was everyone's nights? All sleep well?"

"Bed was a bit stiff," Mac sighed softly, rolling his left wrist slightly as he tried to get normal movement back into it, ...it's been over 5 years since I left that ship. You'd think I could remember how to sleep like I was on land again... he internally lamented his awkward sleeping habits earned from spending so much time in a hammock or in a swaying bed while on the open sea.

"I've had better. Someone here snores."
"Well, you can't blame me. I was in the other room."
"Well I was sleeping so I don't know if it was me... But I didn't even noticed if we were in the same room..."
"It wasn't me, kupo."
"I don't snore. It's unbecoming of a lady."
"Even if someone snored, I don't think it'd affect me,"
"I don't snore..."

Mac grinned tiredly and held his hands up innocently, "If I snored at all, I'd be a dead man right now many times over," and left it at that.

"Not very good, kupo. I had trouble falling asleep. But not because I was scared about today or anything."

"It's not the fear that should bother you, yanno," Mac thought out loud, "...but what the fear makes you do in responce."
Inwardly, Micerhin remembered back to the tale he'd related last night. Sure, he'd been brave to spite his fear of the giant Seeq, but that did little when he quivered in the corner after the fight was done - afraid he'd die from the bruised/broken ribs and broken bones.
But he wasn't about to worry the poor Moogle about things like that. After all, a little innocence was a good thing in this world these days.

"How many times is this now?"

Once again, their group was on the move, this time by Chocobo cart. Though this was an easier and more relaxing mode of transportation, Raidou preferred the excercise... And as a result, took up walking alongside the cart. Everyone else was off in their own conversations talking about their restful sleep last night, which amused him. It seemed the lot of then never ran out of things to talk about with one another. He returned to thinking to himself, when...

"I've had better. Someone here snores."

Raidou opened his eyes and glanced off to the side at their traveling companion. He then looked at the others follow in saying they weren't the ones snoring. After a few moments, he realized he was going to be one of the last ones to declare it wasn't him. Unfortunately, he only closed his eyes and heaved a sigh before looking away.

"Err... Sorry. It's been a while since i've had a decent night of sleep, so it may have been me." he admitted.

The Blade that Cuts Injustice
"Just my luck," thought the Viera monster hunter as he continued his run along the road.

Dermud had been part of a group sent to stop the Goblin threat. Unfortunately, he got the short end of the stick as far as a party went. Bandits, rogues, other sorts of shady characters filled the ranks, all with very similar but very selfish goals. And as anyone in this age knew, that wouldn't work out for long. There had been a few disputes along the way, but Dermud, using his "feminine charm," had usually been able to calm them down and get the group back on track.

It was't until their last stop that things went bad; very bad. Last night, the night before the home stretch, a few of the more abitious bandits decided they didn't like their group's leader and decided he needed to go... to hell. So they ambushed him and a huge fight within the group broke out with everyone except Dermud either dead or fled. Left alone, it was up to Dermud himself to uphold the contract.

And so he ran off early this morning to get a head start, hoping he wasn't too far behind the rest of the groups sent. It'd be a rough experience alone.

Sendis pulled her sword out of the scabbard along with a whetstone from her pack and began to work on her blade. It was the finest craftsmanship that a reasonable amount of money could buy, but of course maintenance was very important, otherwise the fine weapon would do her no good.

She was about to begin, but then was struck with a sudden thought. Placing the weapon and tool down on the wagon for a moment she put her helmet on and then began her task. They were getting awfully close now, and on never knew when a surprise attack would come in the form of Goblins, or arrows and whatnot.

Sendis then began the task with the practiced patience and care that her old instructors had drilled into her.

"I'm glad I don't have to carefully sharpen my weapon. I think I'd go crazy if I had to go to that much of a maintenance level."

"Speaking of..." Micerhin thought aloud as he slid his rifle off his shoulder, holding it by the barrel, "I really should keep this part maintained more often..."
The part he was referring to was the nearly-foot-long blade that was mounted beneath the barrel. A wooden grip in place of a handle kept the blade latched to the gun and a wrapping of light-but-strong metal kept the blade from being knocked off during combat. The blade itself, however, had obviously seen better days.
While still keeping the shine familiar to most metals, the blade itself had more than a few (admittedly minor) nicks along the edge. The tip of the blade itself was... well, for lack of a better term, it was missing. There was a rough break that prevented the blade from reaching what was probably the foot-long length it probably was (about half of it being attached to the rifle itself, thus removing some problems).

Sighing softly, Mac started digging in one of the recessed pockets of his jacket, looking for a similar item to Sendis' own whetstone... and found his fingers reaching through the pocket and back out into the open air.
Letting out a soft curse to the tailor who'd last 'fixed' his jacket, Mac re-slung his rifle and shook his head. With any luck, he wouldn't have to go blade-to-blade with anyone before he could get that blade fixed up anyhow.

Faris eyed Lufia and Sendis lightly as they conversed over Sendis' relaxation techniques before her visible golden eye trailed off towards Mac walking behind them. The Viera smirked ever so slightly as the man fiddled with his weapon of choice. She sat up straighter, looking back towards Sendis.

"Isn't that kind of dangerous? I mean, if we're ambushed or something, you might lose that thing.." and tilted her head towards the whetstone.

Slowing his run to a light jog and then a stop, Dermud caught his breath. He'd been moving steadily, but even his Viera legs got a little tired sometimes. Looking off, he spotted another small town in ruin.

"So many," he said to himself, gripping the Messer sheathed beneath his feminine cloak, "I hope the other groups are holding together."

The past few years since he'd fled the forest, Dermud had travelled as a woman, "Derry." While he didn't overtly dress as one, his neutral clothing and colorful cloak that covered the bottom half of his face combined with the fact that barely anyone in the world had ever seen a male Viera or knew what one looked like allowed him to pass as a woman quite well. Even most other Viera never suspected a thing. They'd have no reason to.

Unfortunately, it also caused him a lot of problems at taverns. Men were always looking for some hot Viera action. It had something to do with the ears. Thankfully, he was more than well equipped to deal with those situations and usually ended up a richer man than he was before while the would-be wooers were left unconscious.

But that didn't matter right now. He was a little hungry and thirsty, and the town up ahead looked to have been abandoned by whatever attacked it, a good spot to rest with cover. Dermud did detect some sort of activity, but he'd be the judge of how dangerous it was when he got closer. Rolling his shoulders for a moment, he set off for the town unaware that a cart was also headed in the same direction.

In the town there was a strange calm, a tense silence as if a premonition of a storm. The tavern seemed to be the focus of this intense calm, and as the Viera man passed by it the front door exploded out as a heavy barstool was hurled through it, clattering and skidding along the flagstones of the town square as it barely missed the Viera.

"ACH! THE SERVICE HERE STINKS!" A loud, gruff, voice, bellowing in a rough brogue, but still somehow adorable, sounded from the tavern. A drunken "WARK!" echoed the sentiment, as another barstool flew out, this one flying through the front window.

"AYE! NOW THERE'S A RIGHT FINE THROW THERE JAMIE!" The voice said with a cheer. Suddenly Nicus tottered up to the window, a large tankard of ale in each diminutive hand as he flapped his wings a few times and stood on the remains of the sill in his tough, small boots.

"Arrr..." The drunk Moogle blinked a dozen times as the bright sunlight hit his eyes. He took a long draught from both mugs before he spied the Viera.

"OOOOI!" Nicus cried cheerfully, Jameson staggering drunkenly over to join her tiny companion and looking at the Viera in turn. "C'MON IN LASS! THERE'S NO ONE HERE NAUGHT BUT US, AND THE SERVICE MIGHT STINK BUT THE BILLS ARE FINE! HAHAH!" With that Nicus took another pair of draughts off the mugs, and began to laugh mightily before he fell backwards and back inside the tavern.

"... Ah'm okay!"

Jameson began to wark with laughter before her legs failed her and she toppled over too.
