So, I was sitting here trying to get a DL to work for school, and watching it take forever...so I started thinking back to the Forever Red topic and the differences between American versions of toku and the original versions...and somehow this prompted me to go looking up the themes for the various seasons of Power Rangers and their sentai counterparts. So behold, the fruits of my boredom!! MMPR - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEOcA99CQuE ZyuRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp6ntyC6dPk MMPR #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nX2Uqnc7v9I DaiRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYdqC8Ejl4Q MMPR #3 - Couldn't find an Alien Ranger OP (wonder why <_<) KakuRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmbGp3ucKTs PR Zeo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3Wsb_XFCaw OhRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTT_oF37fTI PR Turbo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCheJHcck5s CarRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0Kqx50d938 PR in Space - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0flhn4hBA0c MegaRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxkDi-hccuw PR Lost Galaxy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koX5UJy4QiI GingaMan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmtGiqlUNnw PR Lightspeed Rescue - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MC6xMvH_gk GoGo V - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBIqsPda1-Q PR Time Force - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HVR3a8rm_E TimeRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtEe0ZXget4 PR Wild Force - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5MvBFjTx3k GaoRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrfjHwZFsNk PR Ninja Storm - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWawGV7MXLU Hurricanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRuHDfwefLM PR Dino Thunder - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEW9jpQh28o AbaRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3WjCuEaLZY PR SPD - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDm3Cjw8aps DekaRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpYxb95YC3g PR Mystic Force - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6IfyiXsraM MagiRanger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut7apPIPWjA And because I loved the Mystic Force background music but hated the OP, the rejected (yet more traditional) OP - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_mSQ4oVgxI PR Operation Overdrive - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeRmvW2hrVQ (wish there was an alternate OP for this <_<) Boukenger - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeAWOE7DblA PR Jungle Fury - Guess we'll know soon enough.... Reposting for completion's sake: VR Troopers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_19qySUrzY Metalder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbnerZq0pk4 Spielban: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwiZSE8Q6Gk (I know it's not the actual OP, but you go with what you got) Shaider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sADh2f3iQmA Incidentally, it's fun to note that VR Troopers was originally called Cybertron, and was going to just use footage of Metalder, with Jason David Frank playing Ryan as a solo hero. :ph43r: Masked Rider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-MoF-nVI4Y Kamen Rider BLACK RX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqW2u1AmrGI Still so sad that Masked Rider was so bad-ass on Power Rangers, only to fall so far once he got his own show. :( Beetleborgs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XdoMP23EKE B-Fighter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b8JgTvySPo B-Fighter Kabuto: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQDxiQ6hR9Q&feature=related I still giggle at the various Beetleborgs who got cameos in "Forever Red" as the bad guys. ROFL And last but not least: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3QW0Op3tFY I don't care what anyone says, this show had some real potential. Hell, I just loved how it used Celtic mythology as opposed to so many of the more often-used settings. |

I see what you mean in wishing they'd used the DaiRanger outfits for season 2. Those look rather badass... though I have to admit, it'd be an odd switch from season 1. Also, I can't help but note that many of the MMPR themes just sound better to me than the earlier shows used. However... almost anything sounds better than the Mystic Force or Operation Overdrive themes. [Watches the MegaRanger opening.] So that's what the In Space rangers were doing on their Galaxy Gliders: surfing the internet! God, that confused me so many times with magically appearing in a glowing tube... >_> [Watches the Dekaranger opening.] SPD... Sentai Police Dekaranger and Space Patrol Delta. Well-done, Disney, in keeping the name almost the same in terms of context for once. XD One last thing... it almost... almost... seems like the recent American iterations have a slightly larger budget in terms of film quality and special effects. I could easily be wrong, and it could just be the quality of the footage I'm seeing, but I can't help but get that impression. However, the theme still pales before the American Rock of SPD somehow. >_> |

*insert obligatory "haet rap" comment here* Actually, it's not so much that I hate rap as it just doesn't jive with the entire FEEL of Power Rangers.
I always just sorta figured that they were riding in hyperspace or something, though now that I've gotten to see some episodes thanks to TV-Nihon the original concept was pretty funky-awesome.
Yeah, you can actually notice a lot of the more subtle touches that they left in the show to reference the original in the more recent stuff. Overall, I'd say SPD was the best Ranger show since Time Force, with the exception of the HORRIBLE way they handled the Omega Ranger. Absolutely disgraceful. Even their own writers admit they wish they could do that over.
Well, I have noticed that the morphs have periodically been just a bit flashier and more effects-laden in the American stuff. Mystic Force is one of the best examples, as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVZLTFcR-r0 Compare to the sentai version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbCNKxISxos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4nSknZBj68 Now, don't get me wrong: MagiRanger is my fave sentai of them all, but I actually prefer the Mystic Force version of the morph...though that's really about it. Some Ranger shows are perfectly good even when compared to the original, and Mystic Force was actually not too bad overall...but virtually everything else was done far better in MagiRanger. ...well, I will admit I liked Daggeron more than Hikaru. >_> |

Yeah, I've noticed that they've gotten better with carrying things over... or at least keeping things sensical. Lord knows how many times the 'Golden Age' of Power Rangers got just plain bizarre because of a few choice edits... ...or wholesale slaughterings, like CarRanger. And yeah, I remember reading that about the Omega Ranger. For a Sixth Ranger, he was really fumbled badly. On the other hand, we got Doggie Kreuger and Kat... even if they were probably in the original show anyhow. And we got the A-Squad, who were specially made just for the American version (lol, recycled In Space helmets). Speaking of, I really did like the idea that SPD focused on the 'rejects' of the Academy, so to speak. I mean, they were still competant, but also bumbling at the same time. Kinda left me wondering if the Earth would survive... in a good way. Like Dino Thunder, but carried off better in execution. EDIT ...and I think I remember watching Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills, sadly enough. Like, once on USA or something. Involved time travel and Zha Zha Gabor becoming mayor or something. Or maybe that was another MMPR knockoff of the time. I dunno. |

Well, Kat was a lot more amusing than Swan, but Swan got to stay a Ranger, so I guess it balances out. And at least in SPD Doggie spent less time lusting after someone from another species. And yes, that was TTAFFBH, S3. Feel free to plunge your head in bleach now. XD |

Yeah, I think I'll go do that. On the plus side, Kat's actually pretty attractive. And that's before you factor in the Catgirl bit. And 'Z' was also attractive as well. But yes, the bleach, it calls for me... |

SSSS might've been pretty laem at times, too...but it made up for it by letting us see a young Matthew Lawrence try to be a superhero while simultaneously reminding us that Tim Curry makes ANYTHING better. |

Well, it was actually SUPPOSED to be, sorta. It was a spin-off that Tsuburaya did, and I think they were wanting to have it occur in the same universe as the Ultra-series. |

Naah, I would have remembered that... Really, it's pretty weird. Especially since I knew about Ultraman long before Tiega or seeing him in SD Volleyball with the Kamen Riders. In fact, I even knew it was Ultraman just by seeing the face. Ah, who knows? Maybe it was action figures from that show or something... if they ever released any. |

Well, it could also have been the animated UltraMan movie that came out on video in America in the early 80s...though maybe that was before your time, dunno. Towards the Future was an early '90s work, and was even made into a game, which happened to be one of the launch titles for the Super Nintendo. |

Yeah, that animated thing is easily before my time, considering I was born in '85... I suppose it might have been the SNES Ultraman game. I did read Nintendo Power at the time, after all. |

Hey, does anyone remember an Ultraman show (I think I saw it when I was about 10 years old, so around 1993) that had what I believed to be North American actors, but unlike Power Rangers, all the action scenes were filmed along with everything else and not just ripped from a Japanese show. Wait... Now that I think of it, it may be that "Ultraman: Towards the Future" thing linked earlier. |
