...and having seen Street Fighter IV in motion via Gametrailers, I feel I must amend my statement on this game.
Because otherwise, it's the exact damned game with a handful of new characters. |

What, did you expect a sequel to a long-running and well-established fighting game series to completely reinvent its own gameplay engine when there was nothing really wrong with it to begin with? |

I think it's more he expects it to feel like a SEQUEL rather than a remake. Currently, everything I've seen makes the title "Super Street Fighter II: Ultra Hyper Tri-Dimensional Mega Fighting Turbo" seem more appropriate than calling it "4". |

EXACTLY. Especially considering the fact that this game randomly takes place between 2 and 3, it's almost insulting that they've decided to call it '4.' And then there's the fact that the gameplay itself has yet to really change from the last iteration of number 2, and has actually regressed from the experience in Street Fighter III. Was it modified? Sure - but watch these matches and tell me otherwise: Chun-Li vs Vega (Japanese Balrog). Notice how they don't even bother to animate Vega picking up his missing claw, or anything. It just... magically appears again when you walk over it. Just like in II-hyper-awesome-fighting. Sagat vs Ryu. Yes, a thrilling fireball battle. We've certainly come a long way since 1992... or not. Chun-Li vs New Character 'Viper'. Goodie, a Terry Bogard with electricity and boobs. New Guy Abel vs Guile... and notice how Guile still hasn't gained any new moves since 1992. God, CAPCOM must hate this guy more than the entire cast of Street Fighter combined. Zangief vs New Guy El Fuerto. Anyone else notice how... broken the new guy is? New Girl Viper vs Ken. And it looks like El Fuerto's not the only broken one. Either way, I don't think 'evolution' and 'steps forward' involve taking this many steps back. It's like trying to evolve a monkey into a human by first regressing the monkey back into a protozoan. |

El Fuerte and Abel are two of the things I like best about 4, to be honest. In that one video, I don't think it was so much that he was broken as it was that the guy playing Zangief was somewhat outmatched. |

For the same reason so many Gundam fans are ticked off when Bandai makes yet another UC rehash (be it show, model, game, what-have-you) while ignoring the possibility of so many other parts of the franchise. Sure, it's going to make them money. I can't fault them for that. But if the game's already looking stagnant compared to the other fighting games out there before it's even released (even compared to Tekken... and I rarely like Tekken), what's the point of putting all the effort into it? Why not just re-release yet another edition of Street Fighter II - which is what this feels like anyhow? Look at it this way: We've not seen a hint of the four fighters added for the Super iteration (Fei Long, Cammy, and so on). We've not seen a hint of any of the SFIII characters (and III was pretty successful, if I recall), nor are we seeing any of the characters made for the Alpha games. So many interesting characters being ignored and forgotten, so many new possibilities (if the characters made for III were any indication) being ignored... just so we can have the original characters again. ... ...and I bet Bison's alive again, too.
True, true. However, the completely ADD way in which El Fuerte ran around, I can't help but worry about his balance in the game. It didn't seem like he did less damage - and it also seems like Zangief might suffer from being the tall guy for once, which combined to make things look... unfair, to say the least. Honestly, I'm just sitting off to the side and raising an eyebrow. I want this game to kick ass. I really do. But it feels like I'm sitting in the Sony press conference at E3 when they first did the run-through for the PS3. |

El Fuerte reminds me of someone from Ultimate Muscle. Maybe that's why I like him so much. Yeah, they've confirmed Bison's alive. But they've also confirmed that Zangief was actually kicking ass in some of the test plays where someone who knew what they were doing had control. I just hope the rumor is true that Gouken is the final boss and not Bison. |

Oh, yeah, I totally understand that. It's nice to see other pseudo-fighting-styles (after CAPCOM's done with 'em, anyhow) to see representation for once. Then again, it's nice to see anyone beyond the II cast show up in Street Fighter these days.

Well, that's a relief. Really, my main worry is for balance - especially with people like Viper, who just seem overly powered to the point of broken games. Well, that, and character development* (lol, CAPCOM) and more unique moves (lol, Guile).
Anyone who isn't Bison would be nice. Hell, it'd be kinda cool if the final villain was someone who deposed Bison and yet he and Guile had to work together to get rid of the final villain. Hey, it's better than "RAAR! I AM EVIL AND ALIVE! AGAIN!" ------------- *Calling it right now: - Ryu is still looking to improve himself as a fighter, because he has no life. - Ken comes out of retirement yet again because he hears about Ryu entering the fight. - Bison is still trying to take over the world. - Sagat wants revenge on Ryu. Again. |

I am reminded of the Street Fighter cartoon...
1) Most likely. 2) Most likely. 3) Most likely. 4) I thought Sagat got over Ryu's victory over him? |

Yeah, if they want to go by established story canon, Sagat stopped wanting revenge on Ryu back in the Alpha/Zero games, and now just wants to try and beat him to regain his title as the biggest bad-ass in martial arts. |

Fei-Long from Super Street Fighter II and Dan from Street Fighter Alpha are scheduled to be included in the upcoming home versions of Street Fighter IV. According to Yoshinori Ono, other characters specific to the Street Fighter Alpha or Street Fighter III games could appear in the home versions as well, such as Sakura or Ibuki, but only Fei-Long and Dan are confirmed. In the January 2008 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono stated "Let's just say that [jokes] that your magazine have reported in the past might find their way into the game as fan service." Executive editor Shane Bettenhausen took this to mean the appearance of their long-standing joke character Sheng Long in Street Fighter IV, though added that if the character did appear in the game, it would be Gouken. On April 1, 2008, Capcom posted a fake update to their blog heavily suggesting his presence in the game, but confirmed the very next day the character would not be present in Street Fighter IV. However, in an interview with GameVideos.com on June 6, 2008, Yoshinori Ono was asked if Gouken was going to be in the game to which he replied "Will he be in the game playable that particular character, well we probably wouldn't put a non-playable character in an animation like that and highlight him to that degree." On July 14 of 2008 Capcom Unity released a poll for fans to choose which characters they would like to be added to the home version of the game; the poll featured characters Cammy, T. Hawk, Fei Long, Dee Jay, Sakura, Ibuki, Hugo, and Dan. The producer of the game, Yoshinori Ono, announced that the winner of the poll was Cammy; and, in an August 2008 interview, he confirmed that she is "definitely in the game". Cammy appears in an animated featurette promoting the upcoming console versions of the game. Cammy is now finally officially confirmed to be in the home versions following producer Ono's interview with 1up.com. -Quoth Wiki. And honestly, expecting things like a "pick-up claw" animation for Vega/Balrog is pretty silly. Yeah, it adds "depth" to the animation, but it also wrecks his gameplay by FORCING a moment of inactivity on him; anyone will tell you that sacrificing gameplay quality for "pretty" is an epically stupid move. Adding such an animation would effectively force Vega/Balrog into the bottom tier, because nobody would be willing to play a character who has even a split second of enforced defenselessness because any player with half a brain can see it coming and prepare to beat the shit out of you. |

[Points to the emphasis made on 'home versions.'] It's great that we're getting more than a nostalgia-bomb, but it's still kinda hard to really get energetic over the game. I want to, I do. But... |

Well, what's the point in adding lots of shit to arcade versions? It's not like anyone actually goes to arcades anymore. Hell, does anyone here actually HAVE a decent arcade in the area? |

When my brother went to Japan a couple of years ago, he said they still had arcades...but all the people there were playing stuff like Super SF2 Turbo, leaving stuff like MvC2 completely unoccupied. He also saw AvZ2 and Card Builder, IIRC. |

I know for certain the arcades here in the Philippines are still very active, of course majority of the frequent arcade players hang around the Tekken 6 machines. |
