Couple of things to note... -Capcom Japan sold the rights to SF to Capcom USA because they thought the series was dead; what this means for SF4, I dunno. -Crossovers are unlikely, since Marvel went to EA for characters (see also: Penny Arcade). But anyway, my exact response when I saw the topic title: "FUCK YES! YOU ARE THE BEST NEWS EVER!" |

Hmm, wonder if this is gonna be cell-shaded. If it ended up still being 2D I'd fall to my knees and weep for joy, but at this point I wouldn't mind an actual Capcom-made 3D SF. Amuro's right, though...being an all CoA deal dampens my enthusiasm ever so slightly. EDIT: On another note, Bionic Commando!! HUZZAH!!!! |

As far as I'm concerned Japan is behind in game development now (I'm having a hard time thinking of big games that I want and recently played that were developed in Japan) and Capcom USA is doing a great job of pushing Street Fighter lately (I can't wait for HD Remix). |

I I personally still think the Japanese developers, most of them anyways, are ahead of the americans. But whene it comes to Capcom Specifically, I'd never thought Id say it, But recently crapcom of america>Capcom of japan. recently CoJ's been sucking ass all together. Even when CoA tries to do good things, like they planned with the Rockman X collection, CoJ stepped in and forced them to cancel all the extras we were getting. EDIT: and isn't this like the...40th street fighter game by now? EDIT2: Official site http://www.streetfighterworld.com/ Nothing there yet. |

Well, maybe this means Ryu will get an ACTUAL FUCKING PLOT NOW, seeing how Capcom of America doesn't mind things like the UDON comic. Where Ryu had a plot and character. |

*remembers the Street Fighter anime, and the idea of 'goofy but loveable' Ryu* *shudders* Anyway, I'm with GT. Japanese developers, for the most part, seem too busy doing the same old things over and over again in order to please the Japanese gaming community to be considered anywhere near the level that other foreign developers have reached since the launch of this next generation. There are exceptions to this rule, and I recognize this fact, but how can anyone argue that games like Blue Dragon, despite being Microsoft's big attempt to tap Japanese talent and find their niche overseas, was anything but a subpar RPG? Let's use an example to illustrate my point. I just pulled up the first page of the highest scoring XBOX 360 titles released to date in the US. Of those 50 top scoring games, 5 were from Japanese developers; one of which was a re-release of a PS1 game. What 5 games were they, you ask? Dead or Alive 4, Dead Rising, Virtual Tennis 3, Eternal Sonata, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. In short, only 2 of those 5 games actually did anything new, and only one did it well. Now you might argue that, since the 360 lacks Japanese developer support, the PS3 would make a better argument. Well, on that system's 50 best games, again, only 9 appeared to originate from Japan. Folklore, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Tekken 5, Vitrua Fighter 5, Virtual Tennis 3, Armored Core 4, a Sega Rally game, Piyotama, and a Puzzle Fighter game. Well, 9 games should be better than 5, right? Wrong. Only Folklore manages to do anything new, as the majority of these are ports, re-releases, or by-the-numbers sequels. Even looking to the future, Japanese developers don't have too great a presence. Square will maintain its high quality, as will the MGS team, but can it be argued that either of them are striving to do something like Bioware's Mass Effect; that is, to re-imagine the way story is told in a video games, as well as the player's role in it? I think not. Random side note: To be fair, you can probably cut both lists in half, from 50 to 25, if you remove all the sequel sports games and downloadable games from them. Not that it matters, as the Japanese lists would still be crippled compared to their foreign competition. |

Well, after CoJ killed Clover and screwed up the MMX Collection I'm not especially thrilled with them, either. I'm just sort of afraid that if CoA handles the game in it's entirety that it'll be more like a prettier SFEX than an actual sequel to the franchise. While I would be OPEN to a 3D SF, if I wanted to play Tekken, I'd play Tekken. However, if all my fears end up totally unfounded and paranoid, then I will happily be the first to admit fault. ^_^ |

This actually reminds me of a discussion that came up, where Ben "Amuro" Kosh (one of Gundam's elite fen) said that most Gundam games are programmed by newbie programmers in order to cut their teeth, so to speak. They aren't at all concerned with making a quality game, since they figure the Gundam name will sell plenty. That seems to be a big problem with Japan - they're too busy focusing on trends to care about quality. If you slap a name like Gundam or Evangelion on a shitty game, you can still make it successful. There's really no incentive to make a quality game, if you can make a crappy one and do just as well. So in that vein, maybe it's best for Capcom of America to get SF4. |

Well, it's not like that problem just belongs to Japan, either. After all, EA only lightly touches up Madden for the next year unless they actually have to jump up a generation - and their other sports games aren't much better (not to mention they skipped a year in games and leapt ahead another in numbering). They're selling off the pure idea that Sports games Sell no matter how bad they are. Which also explains why there were so damned many '___ STREET' games, despite them all playing about the same. Of course, there seem to also be a few more companies willing to take chances than in Japan. Though this might also be because of the fact that Japan has Anime (good fun for most ages!) and a love of generic RPGs... and we have cartoons that never really get big outside child audiences and a love of sports. I mean, anyone can make a crappy game to capitalize upon a trend. Like Lost: The Board Game. Or The Guy Game on the Xbox, which was trying to capitalize upon Leisure Suit Larry and Girls Gone Wild. After all, we had literally fucktons of horrible movie and TV show games on the NES and SNES. Remember the days of Hudson Hawk, Die Hard, Robin Hood and Total Recall? Thought so. |

Well the major one was that all games, Includeing X1-3 were going to re dubbed. as was X4s crapass dubb. also, they were going to have new remastered tracks for the BGMs among other things. However, Keiji Inafucker, demanded that CoA remove all they added, and cancel what they were planning left to do because he thought that all the new stuff in the old games, would make the sales of his crappy remake/Retcon "Irregular Hunter X" suffer. Unfortunatly for us he got his wish. But unfortunatly for him, he didn't get his as both his remakes, IHX and RMRM BOTH sucked majorly in sale to the point where all future plans for the games were scrapped. |

I just hope that the 3P or 3K throws are nixed. That made them actually more abuse in Alpha 3 and I swear they ruined the fun of overheads in Alpha 2. I never could get into Street Fighter 3. >> If this game ended up being a ridiculously pretty EX with Udon endings I would be spastically happy. I thought the EX games always played wonderfully just they looked like crap and there was no story to them. >> |

I thought the first one, SFEX+@ was the best one out of all of the EX games, Simple, Lot of fun to play, very deep fighting engine, a lot of goodies and little easter eggs that were awesome. But i think the second and third iterations were... Eh. Im personally hoping its a fusion of styles from Alpha, 3, EX and maaaaaaaaybe some elements from the VS series. And lagfree Online play. Thats a big must. |
