Two years ago, Russell Tavares was a clean-cut 25-year-old entrusted with “very high clearance” in missile and fire control in the U.S. Navy, officials say.

Now he’s the subject of a bizarre, tragic story — one that McLennan County investigators say would be a fitting plot for a television crime drama about short tempers, long-distance vendettas and the Internet’s ability to bring various personalities into conflict.

Tavares was involved in an Internet chat room squabble with John Anderson, a 59-year-old Elm Mott resident. Anderson said he called Tavares “a nerd.”

Tavares’ response: He took a leave of absence from the Navy. Drove from Virginia to Waco. Set fire to Anderson’s trailer home.

I don't believe it.

While a little extreme, I still have to credit the guy for being one of the few to get around the lack of a device allowing you to punch someone through a standard internet connection.

For a second there when they said he was in charge of fire control for missles, I though he was going to try and fire a missle at this guys house.

Does the fact that he works in the defense field sort of remind anyone of the movie Falling Down?

That would have been a more awesome way to "win" an internet argument.

I feel sorry for Mr. Anderson, but still, this is kind of lol.

The Navy guy had WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on his hands.

How the heck does a person like that get into the military anyway? Even Shinn Asuka is more mature and he's a fictional loose cannon.

Umm have you seen the military recuitment stuff latley they've lowered their standards quite a bit.

Unemployed? Have no skills? Not even an American?

No problem, we need people bad, we'll take anyone.

Mercs too, it has been awhile since i have heard of mercs being hired for one reason or another.

Edit:Although i do not like to admit it, if your a merc and get hired by us your chances of getting medical aid is near slime, from what iv heard/read you just get left.

I'm perfectly willing to accept sub-standard/non-existent medical aid if I join your Army. At least I won't need to calculate the square root of a fraction the size of Alabama to pass the first test.

Thanks...

But not being an American exempts me from having to care about the American Army, George Bush and the the so called "war" in Iraq. But hey I guess I hate liberty or something then huh?

Quattro, Don't talk about something you know nothing about. It makes you appear immature, foolish, and ultimately, proves ignorance.

While I did not intend to insult you personally, or explicitly imply that military personal are ignorant, I do do think that putting your life on the line is admirable. With that said in 2006 the US Congress raised the maximum enlistment age to 42 from 35 because of low recruitment. But most of my statement was made in jest because of the problems the army is having with low recruitment. Now do I think what the US Army is doing in Iraq is just or anything? No, but I'm entitled to my opinion, even if you're there fighting "terrorist" in Iraq, which if I remember correctly Bush announced you won that conflict back in 2003, you're fighting for freedom, and I have the freedom to my opinion. So I'd prefer not to be called ignorant by someone because I made a comment in jest, or just because they don't' agree with an opinion of mine.

You see, I'm not going to let you two try to coerce me into what you want me to be. You two can both get fucked.

Just like you have every right to espouse your opinions, Quattro, i have every right to defend it. DOn't try to hold a double standard.
