Just downloaded the game off of 4Chan's Rapidsearch (took a day, but it was worth it)... and I find myself asking...

Did only classic MSG get resolved in the first Alpha? I mean, everyone's running around in Zeta-Era (or Victory-era) mechs... even if almost all of the named characters are using Bylrants (if I recall the name correctly)... and Char himself, though still 'evil,' apparently, is using the 'Shiki.

Anyone care to fill me in on what the hell happened in Alpha 1? XD

Aside from that, I'm having an easier time than I did in SRW R - I feel like I'm actually in a fair fight for once...
...though I am only in mission 3.

Where'd you get the 'evil' thing for Char (QUATTRO) from??

All involved UC Gundam was resolved in @1. MSG, Zeta, ZZ, F91, V, 0083, 0080. Only CCA didn't happen, logically so.

The CCA events weren't covered in @1 so Char was still Quattro.

...the fact that he's fighting against me, alongside Emma in a Titans MK.II and Yazan in his first mech.
The second character, of course, being the larger clue here. >>

Second question, then...
Why the hell are people like Lyla and Kacrican alive, then?

That's because Bright and the others were imprisoned IIRC, so Quattro and Emma were waiting for the right moment to save them.

Yeah, Char and Emma were basically being coerced into fighting for the Titans. And the other Titans were still alive because, IIRC, you were too busy dealing with the Zeons in @1 to take care of them.

Well, thanks for clearing that one up - at least it makes a little more sense now. XD

I'm currently on mission 5, having taken the first two decisions after mission 3 - thrashing about the Barton forces is indeed fun, though I fo have a complaint that Deathscythe Hell and Sandrock are pratically useless in terms of attacks.
Ok, so they're melee-based... but how hard would it be to figure out other techniques for them to use than just 'wail on the enemy'? <_<

Also, it's odd to see the OG characters running about with people from lisenced works, if only because I'm used to the OGs.

But, hey, still having fun... and I finally got the damn voices to work, too. XD

SRW really didn't start inventing new techniques based off of basic weapons until later on (with @3 being the big one). Before that, they more or less had each attack be a seperate weapon, as opposed to multiple attacks with the same weapon.

Honestly, that really kinda sucks. Guys like Sandrock and Deathscythe are kinda heavily screwed over, all things considered.

Well, no offense to them, but somehow I don't think BP was heavily focusing on making Sandrock and Deathscythe overly-uber back then. They figured if you wanted to use those two more, you'd simply spend money on upgrading them as opposed to some other units.

To be frank, I never really bothered with the Wing units to any great degree in ANY SRW until @2, when Wing and Deathscythe became massive grunt killers. Too many other mechs I'd rather use, and not enough slots to start making changes later. That's actually why I like the Squad System from @2 & 3 so much. I've gotten more use out of my little-used units by whipping them out after the leader has exhausted all his energy/SP than I ever would have if I was deploying individually.

What's wrong with the Wing stuff? So Deathscythe and Sandrock only have two attacks...isn't that all they need? Their melee attacks do great damage, cost no ammo and no energy, and have pretty good critical rates. Short of BSing things like throwing their weapons at the enemy, that's about as good as one could hope for.

Though at the moment I can't remember if Quatre gets a leadership aura in @G.

I never had any problem with them at all...just never used them much before @2, is all.

True, I was more asking S3.

Still, given that the EW versions of those two only have their vulcans and melee weapons, it's a little hopeful to expect any additional attacks (with the possible exception of Sandrock's Cross Crusher). Maybe one day BP will be nice and loan them weapons from the TV versions, but I'm not holding my breath.

Perhaps, but I'm expecting them to start going more the route of having multiple versions of the same weapons, like Deathscythe's two seperate Beam Scissor attacks and the Crossbone's multiple Beam Zanber attacks. It makes a bit more sense than giving them weapons they don't really have, plus in my mind it looks cooler. XD

Honestly, I'm thinking I've been slightly spoiled by SRWJ, which does seem to have that.
Admittedly, Deathscythe can claw through grunts in minutes - though Sandrock seems slightly lacking.

In other news...
Something called J9 (I think - it's a car that turns into a plane or a robot) got introduced, I got Amuro in Nu, Burning in the Re-GZ (and will probably be moving into the GP03) and the rest of the 0083 cast, the Makoushin group (WTF is Masaki flying? A Cybuster upgrade?) and even a group of good ol' VF-1 Valkyries.

So, yeah, I be having fun. I just wish I could read/understand Japanese better than memorizing menus and so on. <_<

Sandrock is usually pretty good, coupled with Quatre's leadership aura. Of course, another advantage is that Deathscythe and Sandrock's melee attacks have ranges of 3 or 4, while most units are limited to 2 at most.

Also, J9 is the team that pilots Braigar; it can turn from a regular-sized car into a full-on Super Robot thanks to a dimensional energy transfer system that the cast doesn't understand at all, but the SRW vets are totally cool about.

And just to get it out of the way, Braigar was created by Monkey Punch, which is why you probably did a double-take and said "Fujiko?!" as soon as they showed up.

I was more thinking Lupin for the main male guy before Fujicakes showed up - but I had a feeling that was the case. Monkey Punch is one talented man.

Once again, though, I reiterate wishing for the ability to understand Japanese - some of the menus are a pain. <_<

EDIT:

Should I feel wrong for slipping Lt. Burning into the GP-03 and letting him slaughter grunts like mad?

Nah, it's just justice for Burning to get a great unit.

Honestly, somebody was working on a translation of @G, but I don't know what became of it.

S3: The unit Masaki is piloting Is Jaohm, a lesser WInd Masouki that he piloted before he was given Cybuster. Don't worry, you'll get Cy back soon.

And Zamjeed FTMFW!!!!

...ooook... I see. Sweet.

The sad thing is that Jaohm looks more badass than the Cybuster we see in OG1.

In any case, I still feel wrongly evil for putting Burning in such a slaughter machine.
And I would also like to note that Roy sounds permanantly drunk. >>

Oh, don't worry...Cy's animations in @G MORE than make up for it. Seriously, ALL the Masoukishin look nearly PS2 quality.

ANd yes, I believe Roy probably IS permenantly drunk...after that one scene in @1 where he comments that he flies BETTER when sauced...and happens to start at a higher morale that stage than the others. XD

They just brought out a trailer for the translated parts of @Gaiden (like the promos shown for @Gaiden). Chrissy's getting through the translation and stuff but it's been slow. Expect something in the next year or two (or three)
