The Blade that Cuts Injustice
|
"So your character, Saikyo Yuusha, he's pretty arrogant," Misaki began as the lunch cart suddenly wheeled away. "Uh..." Hiro could only watched as it disappeared. "Is this the kind of example you want to set for kids?" She continued unphased. "Well no, not exactly. We want to teach kids to never give up and to stand up for what they believe in. You know, to do what they believe in," he explained. "But should children be taught to act as though their way is better than anyone else's? Parents are a little concerned." "Saikyo is arrogant for a reason," he replied. Hiro certainly wasn't going to give away any plot points. "Anyway," Misaki began again, "The female character in the series seems to be a damsel in distress. This isn't uncommon in media, but will she play a more significant role in Saikyo's quest?" "Sorry, I'm not at liberty to say." Nope, no plot points for her. "I heard through the grape vine that this show was inspired from a certain experience involving the whole crew. Would you care to shed some light on this?" No, he most certainly did not. He was growing a bit frustrated on the inside and maybe a little worried. He wanted to dismiss this question, but how could he do that without showing this? "Well, we really don't want to give away any of our secrets. If everyone finds out everything about the show, then they won't be excited anymore." He thought that worked. She chuckled, "Of course, of course. Now for some personal questions that I'm sure the fans are eager to know about you." "Oh boy..." |

"Ranfan, do you MIND being a good sister ANOTHER day?" asked Mao vehemently. The vein on her head was receding as she started to calm down, but damned if she didn't want to get violent on her sister's face. She didn't care at all that the "Continue?" bar had popped up for her on the game. |

Not knowing if he was doing the right thing or not, Ryuji gingerely took Mao's hand into his own, and gave it a comforting squeeze. |

"Ranfan, do you MIND being a good sister ANOTHER day?" "Ah, am I interrupting your date?" She responded idly again. She continued to work her character around the screen, but her grin was faltering, and beginning the slow and fateful turn to a frown. With a last button press that dealt the final blow to the boss of the level, she turned and offered Mao a small smile. "I don't see what the big deal is. Just pretend that I'm not your sister and you'll be fine!" She nodded. "And I'll just stay back and play games. Will that work?" |

Ryuji's comforting grip was enough to send Mao a message, even if he might not have intended it. This wasn't the Mao she wanted to show him... Shaking her head to clear it of red vision, Mao took a deep breath. "Sister... I CHALLENGE YOU!" she declared, her finger pointed at Ranfan. Looking around, she spotted a Melty Blood arcade machine close by. Marching over to it, she stood by it while looking pointedly at her sister, her arms crossed. |

Ryuji blinked. Twice. Today was shaping up to be interesting to say the least. He leaned back against the arcade machine and decided to see how things were going to play out. |

"Sister... I CHALLENGE YOU!" Ranfan stared at her sister like she'd gone crazy. It took a moment for her to find her voice again, especially after the rather caustic way Mao had greeted her earlier. She sputtered, but then shook her head and smiled. "A challenge, you say? Weeeellllll...I don't have much else going on today, and if it's an opportunity to embarass you in front of your boyfriend..." Her smile turned decidedly feral. "...then who am I to turn you down? All right, sister. I accept your challenge." She followed Mao over to the machine, with a small grin. "You sure you want to do this, Mao? I mean...this could go really badly for you." She stuck her tongue out at her sister jokingly. |

"Shut up and play, Sis," Mao said, inserting a hundred yen coin into the machine. She picked Red Arcueid for herself as she waited for Ranfan. |

"So Mr. Hiro Kageyama, what do you like to do in your spare time?" she asked. "Um well..." Hiro wasn't used to being asked questions about himself, "I like to draw and read and write. And ah, I started taking up western fencing recently." "I hear you like going on adventures, what sorts of adventures do you like to go on?" He blushed slightly. Sometimes he and some of the crew's kids would go running through the woods swordfighting or pretend there were monsters to fight. It kept them entertained when the episode was being editted and he'd be lying if he said he didn't enjoy running around being a goof himself. "Heh, well... I keep some of my co-workers' kids busy by going on adventures with them. You know, fighting monsters, finding treasure, looking for secret hiding places." Misaki giggled and smiled, "Well that's awfully nice of you." Hiro could play most any character he wanted, but he found playing himself to be the most difficult. "Now then," she said getting back to business, "What kind of girls do you like?" "Ah... heh, heh..." he had to think about how to word this, "Nice girls." "Just nice?" she asked quickly. "Well, creative too. I guess girls who wouldn't feel awkward going on adventures with me." "Hmm..." she sounded as she finished writing in her note pad and closed it, "Finally, the question all the lady fans are dying to know. Are you single?" "...Yes." |

"Sure." Ranfan followed suit, then quickly directed her selection to Ciel, and tapped the select button. A small smirk followed, as Ranfan's attention narrowed to the screen, her fingers wiggling in midair as she released a bit of tension. It had been a while since she'd played any sort of competitive game against Mao, and she was curious to see just how good her twin happened to be at Melty Blood. As the game loaded and the characters appeared on screen, Ranfan let out one last exhale before she was all business, ready to go to town. |

"It doesn't seem like we'll find any clues down over here either..." one of the soldiers said, as they leveled a flashlight in a dark alleyway. He scanned all over the ground and up the sides of the building for anything that seemed out of the ordinary. However, there was nothing that could even remotely get the police any further than they already were. Walking back over to the group, the second soldier had leveled a newspaper. "The report says it happened in a factory. But without proper authorization, we can't get anywhere near it. Also, have you guys forgotten you're military soldiers and not detectives? Just thought it'd be helpful incase you try sniffing out clues." the second soldier said, as the first gave him a little tap on the head. Approaching them with a black overhoat, Aj scratched the back of his head, his own flashlight off. "Alright, alright... I guess you guys are right. Come on, I think we ventured a bit far. Gonna take a while to walk back up four blocks just to get to our van." Aj said to the soldiers, as they stood in a saluting position, before walking side-by-side back to their van. Occasionally, Aj flashed his flashlight around wherever possible to probably find a possible bit of evidence they or the cops may have missed, until his 2 friends told him off. "Alright alright, sorry..." he sighed, as he turned off the flashlight and stored it in his back pocket. |

Leaping onto the roof of a nearby building, Zhongfu looked over at the factory, keeping low as he did so. From the looks of it, the police were in the middle of an investigation... He didn't want to be seen, so he'd have to wait till either nightfall or till the police left to begin his investigation... He would come back later today to infiltrate the facility... So he turned around and leaped back towards the big city to get a bite to eat. |

Sophisticated Ancestor of Reptiles and Birds

A few days after the disappearance of the factory guard, Ms Naoko Tanaka was watering the plants and feeding the cats on the roof of the apartment building she owned and operated as landlady of. The night was cool and brisk, and despite all her coaxing her cats would not leave the small box that served as house for them. Confused, she sat on her favorite rocking chair, gazing off towards an ugly skyline of an unfinished skyscraper, all the while unaware of a silent shadow swooping down towards her. The cats cried out in terror and rage, but it was too late. No one would notice her disappearance for several days, until her cats loud cries of hunger became too much. An eye-witness would place her last known location as being the roof, and it didn't take long for people to link this case to the one of the guard. Katsushiro's group was put in charge of the investigation, and it was quickly becoming apparent to him that this was no ordinary chain of disappearances. The newspaper headline the day after her disappearance was officially recognized ran: "Another victim has been declared of the mysterious midnight napper..." Kats, was not happy. |

"Another victim has been declared of the mysterious midnight napper..." Reading the headlines, Zhongfu sat in his hotel room. He'd camped nearby the factory last night, but he hadn't noticed anything strange. This thing was obviously just randomly running around doing its thing. But while he wanted to do something about it, he just didnt know enough to be able to formulate any sort of pattern that this thing was following or even know what he should be looking for... [We'll just have to go with sweeping the city every night.] [Zhongfu, I don't like that idea very much, but we don't have much choice, do we?] [Yeah...] Sitting in his hotel room... Zhongfu then began to debate as to what he should do about lodgings... The hotel room was starting to take a nice chunk out of his wallet... |

"Another victim has been declared of the mysterious midnight napper..." "Not again... That's the second victim that's vanished without a trace... Whoever's doing this seems to be going in a random pattern... This is just making it more difficult to predict what this guy's gonna do... Come on, we need to hurry and see if we can figure out anything, before another victim can be taken." Aj said, as the 2 soldiers ate their hotdogs. They had been at searching for a while, but could find nothing. "Let's get moving then. Back to the van, so we can continue searching." Aj said, as he turned and walked down the street, hotdog in his hand. |

The Blade that Cuts Injustice
|
It was a few days later and 'Ichiro Tsurugi' was unable to find any succesful leads on the disappearances. He'd have to be a little more daring if he was to find out the true nature to this mystery. He knew it was something more than a deranged human. He could feel that same presence as the monster he fought on that fateful day. The only thing was, he couldn't feel where it was coming from. But detective work would have to wait. The show must go on. "Action!" |
