I’m going to see this for Venom and the Sandman alone.

My only question is why Gwen Stacy and I think the Green Goblin II in the movie. They seem unnecessary.

Bah. Gwen Stacy was bland and uninteresting - though her death was well-done. Bringing her in now makes no sense.

Unless she dies. :D

I think that all Gwen Stacy will do in the movie is anger the fans that were upset over the changes in the first movie even more.

In this movie though, she seems to be with Eddie for some reason.

I have no problems with that, actually. She did nothing for Peter, except create an akwardness whenever he was around her.

And for refrence, I tolerare MJ/Peter in the comics, because it works... and it's really wierd in the movies.

Oddly enough, my favorite Spidey relationship was Spiderman/Black Cat. XD

As is mine actually. Personally I don’t have anything against either Gwen or MJ.

My only issue with Gwen being in the movie is that they are probably going to change her character a lot for it. I hate when they do that to characters.

S'very true about Gwen. Including her really seems like an unnecessary choice that will only clutter up the movie. Harry as Green Goblin II seems that way as well, but I have to admit that I really want to see him "go go gadget Goblin" before the original cast leaves. So I just can't bring myself to agree with you there. I hope his plotline isn't handled lightly.

Count me in as a supporter for this couple too. I love the two of them together.

My only problem with Green Goblin II being in the movie is that I can’t figure out why. I can see both Sandman and Venom being in it, but I can’t yet understand GG II’s purpose yet. So far it just seems to make the story needlessly complex. However this may all change once we learn more about the film. His purpose may turn out to be greatly needed in the end. I’m probably just worrying too much.

To be honest, I’ll be happy as long as Green Goblin III doesn’t show up. >_>

Question: What was Sandman's origin/relevance in the comics? I know most of the Spiderman villains, but the only time I've ever seen Sandman was in a Spiderman arcade game they made a long while back.

From what I recall, he's a dumbass who wondered onto a beach after nuclear testing or something like that.
Ah, 1960's comics and your lack of science...

He was a crook that decided to hide out on a beach near a nuclear testing area, where he became irradiated and his body fused with the sand around him. The Sandman is actually one of the more important villains in Spiderman’s rogue gallery and also a villain to the Fantastic Four. He is actually both a good guy and a bad guy at various time, mostly bad though.

I'm really looking forward to the movie, and can't help but wonder if TM Revolution is going to do a song for the japanese release again. Web of Night is still a personal favorite song of mine.

Black Cat is indeed hawt, but Felicia was always a bit low-fidelity. She only seemed to care for Peter because he was Spider-Man; heck, when she learned his identity in 616, she was upset because she couldn't reconcile the idea of Spider-Man being a normal. Even worse, in Ultimate, she vomitted all over Pete after his unmasking.

Still, if they wanted to handle BC, they could always play her like she was in the Spider-Man 2 video game, where she tried to convince him to dump his responsabilities and use his superpowers to have fun.

Bruce Campbell will not be Mysterio after all; unfortunately, he's just going to be a snooty maitre'd who annoys Peter.

Neko's spoilers make it sound like Harry's injury/death in this movie will be the result of the symbiote influencing Peter's mind...that could be a rather interesting angle to persue. Also, Sam Raimi has said that Harry will be neither Green Goblin II or Hobgoblin; perhaps he just uses the equipment without adopting a villainous name. Of course, the fact that he's apparently swinging around a longsword while chasing Peter suggests that they may have borrowed inspiration from Alex Ross' rejected costumes for Spidey and the Goblin from the first movie.

And here's the thing that gets me...there are some recent spoiler images that show Flint Marko/Sandman getting into a scuffle with Uncle Ben shortly before his death. I don't know if this means that Marko was in cahoots with the carjacker who shot Ben or not, or even what they're gonna do with that revelation.

Regarding the fourth villain...as insane as it sounds, part of me is hoping that they'll have the carjacker turn out to be Mac Gargan, who would actually volunteer for JJJ's Scorpion project as a way of getting revenge on Spider-Man for ruining his life. I think it could work, certainly better than him being a private eye who volunteers for no good reason.

EDIT: Something I missed that is VERY much worth noting: at Comic Con, they showed a new trailer for the movie. It opens with Topher Grace, looking like a complete wreck, going into a church and asking God to kill Spider-Man. What's noteworthy is that he "introduces" himself as "Edward Brock Jr." So I guess they DID use the Ultimate version of Venom after all...

Here's what Attack of the Show gleaned about the movie at Comic-Con:

-Tobey says that the movie is darker than the other ones, and he feels that they really did a great job of evolving the character.

-Topher says that it's daunting and exciting playing Venom, and that he loved the first two movies. He also apparently had a bet with Thomas Hayden Church about whether they'd see more of Venom or Sandman at the con.

-Kirsten says the romantic conflict triggers because Peter and MJ are at a vulnerable place in their relationship and aren't getting what they want out of it.

EDIT: In case you hadn't heard, Iron Man is coming to theaters in 2008, and in the future we'll see movies for Captain America, Nick Fury, and Thor.

Hmmm.....for some reason, I just don't like the actress they chose for Gwen Stacy, but no other notable actresses come to mind who could pull it off right away.

Maybe I just need to see more of her.

Maybe Flint trying to rob Uncle Ben was what got him thrown in jail and that turned out to be the time he escaped and hid on the beach that he got his powers from.

The villain for the Iron Man move is said to be the Mandarin. Not like anyone didn’t see that one coming though.

I'm not so sure about this anymore. Sam Raimi has said that Church brings a great deal of humanity to the Sandman role; nowadays, "humanity" used in that context means "nice guy on the wrong side". This is sort of reinforced by the fact that his character poster shows him protecting a little girl.

Pics of Venom and co. are now making the rounds on the interweb. Look here for images of Venom, Sandman and "Goblin".

I REALLY like the way Venom came out. The design emphasizes that its a twisting of the movie version of the black costume, and still manages to look like the Venom. S'damned awesome.

It's also worth noting that another Spidey 3 trailer is supposedly coming out this Thursday, too.

I thought Sam Raimi had said all along that Harry wouldn't become a Goblin in this movie...IIRC, he even said that this movie is the one that would stray the furthest from comics canon.

/baseless theories out the whazoo/

I'm with Amuro on this one. I think Spidey will wind up horribly injuring/killing Harry at some point due to the suit's influence. Horrified at what he has done to his friend (even if said friend was trying to kill him), Spidey then runs off to a belltower to pry the suit from him.

Maybe Sandman turned to crime to support his young daughter and found a partner in that fateful carjacker. Perhaps Ben's murder took things a bit too far for Sandy and he's trying to turn over a new leaf, but his unique powers and Spiderman's profession keep him from being anything other than a supervillian. Perhaps Spidey pursues him with extra zeal in a misguided attempt to make up for the guilt of Harry's crippling/demise.

Gwen Stacy showing up in the final act, which is already brimming with characters, seems like a very stupid move. The writers will be hard-pressed to flesh out and humanize the new baddies, remind us of why we love the original cast, and give Gwen any decent treatment. Unless, of course, they give the movie a ludicrous running time, and no one wants that.

Harry looks a bit lame, although I'm intrigued by the idea of his being neither GG nor Hob.

Awesome

Taking too many liberties with the core material usually bodes ill, but Raimi has a good head on his shoulders, so I think he can take the franchise into uncharted waters without sinking it.

Indeed, I’m sure he said both.

And about the Sandman, he has always been one complex character. I mean he has gone from villain to hero a few times. He may be a petty criminal, but he still has a heart of a good guy. I can easily see him being the villain in the movie only to have Spiderman lose it on him and Sandman suddenly is forced to become the hero and save people from a berserk Spiderman.

Actually, you're dead-on there. One of the scenes from past trailers shows a pumpkin bomb beginning to explode right next to Harry's head. Comments from the cast have confirmed that Peter's the one who threw it.
