I thought the others were telling you about it. My bad.

I've only gotten to play it a short time (never got to buy it because of money crunch, and my Blockbuster lost their one copy ages ago) but it's probably one of the most interesting and original RPGs I've ever seen. It's got a fantastic story, a really deep and challenging battle system, and a setting that is in some ways reminicent of what might happen if Go Nagai and Yoshiaki Kawajiri decided to collaberate on a horror setting.

I thought I made a DDS topic once, but it must've been on Thrawnma's board before it shut down... >_<

Anyway, DDS is great for two reasons, Ser; the unique plot and challenging gameplay. Might as well discuss what the game is about before going into specifics though, so here it is.

Imagine a world in which the people know nothing but war. Emotion, conventional knowledge, none of it exists to these lost souls, the residents of the Junkyard. Bound together in a series of tribes, they fight one another, hoping to eliminate enemy leaders and unite the tribes as one, for when all opposition is crushed, the people of this world have been promised entrance to their Nirvana. The Karma Temple has brought this situation about, its word taken as law, and the war up until now has resulted in the creation of six extremely powerful groups. They know that only one of them can pave the way to Nirvana, and so they continue to fight, establishing territories and clashing at the boundaries...

But one day, things began to change. A strange object, a huge, pure black egg, appeared at the border between the Embryon and Vanguard. A battle was sparked, and in the fighting, the egg burst, releasing a shower of light which rained down upon the people of the Junkyard. One by one, it changed them, twisting their bodies into he shapes of horrible monsters. And when the orgy of hunger and pain ended, the stunned members of the Embryon began to ask themselves; what happened? For the first time, they would begin to feel emotion, to question the world the Karma Temple had brought upon them. And the key to it all was the gift that was brought upon, the long content within the egg; the girl known as Sera.

As for the battle system, it uses a turn based system the focuses on strategy. Basically, ever time it becomes the player's turn, you have three 'actions' you can spread out amongst your three characters. Normally, doing anything other than selecting 'Pass' will use up a single action, but by scoring critical hits and nailing enemy weaknesses, your attacks will take up half of an action instead, extending your turn and granting you an advantage. At the same time, hitting an enemy with something it can nullify will cost you two actions instead of one, and if it drains that type of damage, you'll end your turn immediately. It seems simple enough, but when you take into account that the enemies can benefit from this system as well, and if you don't cover your weaknesses they'll be the ones getting a huge number of attacks per turn, it becomes a bit more complicated. Another nice touch is that the money earned from battle directly correlates you your performance. You'll then proceed to spend most of that money on your Mantra, or 'classes', which in allow you to learn a wide array of skills which help you take advantage of this game's battle system.

Anyway, how's that? If anyone's got anything else to add, feel free to.

XD

Seriously though, it's kind of sad, but even the Zentraedi seem socially inclinced compared to the start-of-game asuras. Vulcans from Star Trek might actually be a better analogy.
