The days passed slowly one by one, Hardly anyone seemed to pass threw these dark forests anymore. Now and then a human would be chased into the dense trees and become trapped in the marshes created by the dam. She usually never helped them, Father thought the same. He himself had tried to help a human once and only ended up getting shot in the side. He still had the scar on his side. It had gotten infected quickly and he had almost died. She stayed up for days watching him and tending to his wounds. It had been the scaryest day of he life. Father was all she had. If he were to die she would be all alone, and she was still fare from being able to live out here like that. Angel leaned her head against the old almost dead tree protuding out of the marsh and let her eyes wander over the alge covered waters and watched the life beneath it move and shift. She could feel the fish beneath the water running past her feet and smiled gently. It felt good knowing you weren't alone even if the creature could do nothing more than tickle your skin. The water rippled with life as Father started forward tossing his head gently to get the long white locks of hear out of his eyes and ruffled his wings gently to get Angels attention. She smiled running over to grab the pegasus's head in her arms and rub her head against his soft white fur. A smile curled over her lips and she sighed happily not caring that her long pink hair was falling over her face. Angel always felt so good around father. Though father couldn't talk she had a feeling that some how she was very important to him. The odd thing was, though they were so totally different in so many things, Father had the exact same eyes as she did. She knew he really wasn't her father but a step father in a way, since he adoped her. But something about him always made her feel so safe. |

“Toby! Toby!” It had been over 2 hours and Leilu was still panicked. She was positive she had seen the little boy run this way. “Toby! Your big sister is going to be very, very angry. She probably wont let you sleep in her bed when you get scared and she won’t talk to you for a month,” She shouted out hoping to flush Katie’s little brother out of hiding. The Lithe girl heard bushed rustle behind her and she spun around and caught a glimpse of blonde hair on a little head brush past into the scrub. Leilu put her hands on her hips, “Toby this is not funny. We are miles and miles away from home. Its late afternoon and if we don’t leave soon we wont be home before dark and then we will be in REAL trouble. That’s when the worst of the – waaaaaa,” Honey coloured limb toppled over honey coloured limb as she dark haired girl toppled down a giant pit in the ground. Grass and thin sticks came down around her and on reflex she crouched and covered her head with her arms. One of the branches fell awkwardly on her arm and she cried out as it bit into her elbow. When the rubble and greenery finally settled she glanced out between her arms. The pit was about 2 and a half meters deep, the muddy walls were rough so they would be easy enough to scour up. She saw the trickle of blood snaking along her now dirty arm and drew it away from her head for a careful inspection. Grabbing the corner of her shirt she put pressure on the small wound and howled out, “It hurts, it hurts, hnnnn,” and bit down on her tongue as tears sprung to her eyes. She heard a giggle which drew her attentions away, “Toby is that you. Come and help me please!” Leilu suddenly had a feeling that she was being purposefully drawn away. Was this how all those people disappeared when they turn 18. But she was 18 for 8 more months yet. “Toby,” she tried fruitlessly again panic welling up inside her. She hoped nothing had happened to the boy. More still she hoped nothing would happen to her. She had to get out. |

Angels ears pirked up and she turned her head over the water. Her soft blue eyes sparkled with curiousity and she was about to take a step forward but a large white wing flew out in front of her to keep her from moving. She looked into her fathers eyes and he into hers and a look of consern went over her face. "But father, she sounds hurt..." She turned her head back towards where the sound had come from and her fingers curled gently around her fathers wings. He whinyed gently behind her and walked over to stand at her side his wing still protectively around her. "Yes father I know...but still, do you really think shes just another demon, it sounds like shes searching for someone. And its almost dusk. She probably doesn't even know it with the way the swam trees mess with the suns light." He looked down at her breathing gently on her long pink hair making it rustle gently and then looked out toward the sound. He made a soft snorting noise and started forward slowly. Angel smiled and started off after him but stayed behind. Father wouldn't want her running off in front of him if there was danger out there. The calls grew closer and closer and soon father stopped and laying in the water was the form of a young girl bleeding from the arm. The smell of blood hung think in the air, but that small scratch wasn't even close to enough for it to have been from her. There was something here. Father backed up gently pushing her with him and she bit her lip. She was here now, there was no way she could just let that young girl die. With out thinking she screamed, as loud as she could. "Run! What are you doing standing there! Run, He's going to get you!" Father huffed out loud and smacked Angel with the side of his wing. "oww..." He glared down at her and she shrunk back and he shook his head. Angel still pouting jumped on his back and he went at a gallop towards the girl sliding hard wings outstreatched to stop in the slick water and Angel put her hand down for the young girl to take. "Quick take my hand, its not safe here." |

Despite that the strange command came out of nowhere, on panicked impulse she shot her hand out in the direction it had come. A hand gripped her wrist and Leilu’s fingered curled around her rescuers. As she was lifted out of the muddy pit one shoe remained glued to the sticky and thick water that lined the bottom of the hole and she let out a muffled scream. It was all happening so fast. Moments before she had heard the giggle behind her and had turned around to catch a glance of Toby. She had heard small footsteps to her left and had followed them with her eyes and body. Toby’s small hand tapped on her shoulder but when she had turned around he had once again disappeared. Tears of desperation had sprung to her eyes, a lump forming in her throat. A salty metallic smell started to fill her brown cell and she began to claw at the muddy walls in an attempt to get out but the clumps of most dirt slid off in her hands thickening the water at her feet. Something grabbed her hair and she spun around drawing a fast and heavy kick with her momentum only to find she came into contact with nothing. She turned her head towards her rescuer. It had been then that she had heard the call and reached out for her hand. Dragging her good arm up over the horses back she began to attempt to draw herself up. The girl on the horse still held on to her securely. Thick dark hair fell in tresses across her eyes and she pulled her had free of the grasp to sweep it out of the way. Fear struck her when she saw that the girl had unnaturally pink hair and the horse had gossamer feather wings. She was filled with the need to flee and she slipped. |

Angel cursed and her father smacked her with the side of his wing and she appoligized as she grabed the young struggling girl about the waist. Water suddenly flew up in a collam surrounding them and the surge of it pulled the young girls leg free in seconds. There was a loud scream of rage and Angel pulled the girl up across her lap and wrapped her arms around her to grab fathers mane and they were off at top speed threw the murk. Angels blue eyes seemed as if they were on fire. They darted back and forth and small signals from her father let her know where to freeze the water over. The trees were starting to thin and suddenly the form of the large half distroyed dam came into veiw. He father slowed down for only seconds before they were suddenly hoovering over the ground and staring down at the ground below where three or four demons were shouting and screaming up at them. She stuck out her tongue at them and made a face. "Haha you low lives! Go back into that murky hole you live in you can't get us now!" As if on cue, water flew up in a pillar and they just barely missed it. Father grunted with annoyence and darted high into the sky. Angel still holding onto the young girl tightly her long pink hair whipping out behind her. Flaming rocks were flying threw the sky the whole time and one came right for them and Angel moved her body and the large rock smashed into her side keeping her charge safe. She screamed out and blood started to drip down her side. Father looked back but she noded. "No I'm ok, keep going we have to get out of here." He noded and kept going. Soon it seemed as if the creatures were disapearing. during this time she smiled at the girl in her arms. "You can stop acting like a rabbit now. Why would we save your life if we were going to hurt you." Her grin got bigger and she pointed to the horse that they were on. "This is my father. My names Angel. Its nice to meet someone who isn't like all the people I know...You know I was starting to think you didn't exist. Havn't seen one of your kind pass threw here in years. Father has told me many storys about your kind. Is it true you were born with out powers?" |

Your Kind!! YOUR KIND! It was strange hearing that from one of them. After all that’s what the humans referred to them as. Well not quite, it was more ‘There Kind’. She looked up to the girl who called herself angel and thought her name was very appropriate as she thought only an angel would have been able to save her. The strain on her neck forced her to look back down and her head spun as she tried to keep down her lunch. She closed her eyes and tried to think about something else. She thought on what the girl had just asked. ‘Is it true you were born with out powers?’. Leilu thought back on all the talk that ran through her home where they sheltered those who needed refuge. “I heard rumours that everyone is born without powers and that some secret organisation gets you and mutates you with parts of animals and elements. Apparently your body can’t get the mutation gene until you come of age,” the human girl stated shakily adding hurriedly, “But – But I don’t think you’re a mutant. Mutants sound like awful creatures. You don’t seem too awful to me.” Leilu began to shake all over. What if this was just a false sense of security? What if she was taking her to her den to feast on her flesh of break out in some kind of blood lust? She tried not to think about it. She should think about something else. Maybe she should see where she was. She opened her eyes and the world spun around her once more. This time she didn’t even feel like she needed to be sick she just past into darkness. |

Angel blinked as the young human in front of her slumped over. She sighed softly. "oh shoot, Father we better hurry home, I think shes sick." Father whinnyed and his speed increased and soon they were desending at a rappid pace. Below was an open glade with what looked like a very large home but with a huge front door. Angel put her hand out and the door slowly opened with a spray of water. Father landed nimbly folding up his wings and prancing into the home. It was sparcly furnished. There was two beds, though both were just very large piles of hay. A couple of blinkets lay on each. In the corner was a small whole where water gathered. There were no windows but plenty of room to move about. Against one of the walls was what could have been a chair. Angel pulled the young girl off fathers back and laid her gently onto the smaller of the hay piled and pushed her hair away from her eyes. Her eyebrows nitted in thought. Had she really been like this girl once? She looked up at her father, "I need to get herbs, she might have that cough I sometimes get from the marsh." He nodded and watched her go then laid himself down by the girl wrapping a protective wing about her to keep her warm. Angel wandered off back into the woods to find the herbs she needed. She hopped the girl wouldn't wake up before she got there. She doubted she would be able to understand her father...and he could seem a little threatening sometimes. She went off to a run and soon found the small garden that had the herb she needed and grabed a few handfuls then hurryed home. Her father was still curled up around the girl. She smiled gently and with her power rose a small bit of water out of the small hole, threw the herbs into it then super heated the water. It soon turned to steam and rose into the air filling it with the aroma of the herb. She could feel everything in her opening up as she breathed. It would help to settle the girls stomic to. She went to close the door and heard her stirring. Angel smiled before sitting down next to the girl. She was looking down at her as the girl looked up at her. "Good Morning" |

Leilu shrunk back slightly and unconsciously took hold of a soft wing for protection and snuggled down further. She then relaxed after a short while and her honey eyes searched for that delicious smell. Her mouth and throat where dry and sore and her head still spun slightly. It was then and there that she swore never to fly again. She sure hoped that if she was ever mutated or turned into a demon she would never have part bird in her. She shuddered at the thought and kept up her search for the herbs that she knew were brewing. The place was large and she was pressed up in one corner on what appeared to be a straw bed, though not uncomfortable. Certainly beating the stone floor. There was a similar bed opposite her and not much else. There wasn’t even a stove. “Morning, Miss.” Leilu was working things out in her head. There was a small, what looked to be a inground well. She would put in all her life’s savings that this girl was a water deem – sprite. She pocketed that knowledge away for later use. With a little more confidence she dark girl crawled forward on the bed, “How come you’re so, so, different?” Curiosity over ruling everything. |

Angel had a small bubble of water in her hands that she placed floating before the girl when she finally crawled out. It was a soft amber brown in color. "You look thirsty. Don't worry you can hold it it won't fall." She then took a seat next to the girl and crossed her legs in the straw. He tapped her chin gently with one long finger and nibbled on her lip gently. "Hmmm well, I've just always been this way, as fare as I can remember anyways. I would like to ask you the same thing. I mean I've seen my people just born the way they are. But, your so diffrent from everything I've ever known. I'm not allowed near your kinds city. Father says there are evil people there that want to hurt us. But then I guess there are evil people here. But I guess its best to just deal with the ones here, at least I know how to handle my own kind!" Father rustled his wings and folded them back up. His head shaking gently as he nudged the girls arm. Angel smiled and laughed softly. "He wants you to pet him." He streatched his neck out a bit and Angel reached over and scratched his nose and he let off a satisfied huff. "Anyways, lets hear more about you! Whats it like where you come from? Do you have a family? And what was that change story?" She was leaning over her legs staring at the girl her blue eyes wide with curiousity. (sorry its so short >.< I'm hungry and brain dead -_-) |

“Oh I wouldn’t want to hurt you!” She almost yelled the confirmation then lowering her voice a little she kept going, “Your would probably find that humans aren’t that bad. They wont hurt you we are too afraid of you. Though there have been incidents. We are just like … like …” she paused looking for the right explanation then suddenly she burst out, “Like snakes. A snake won’t hurt you unless she feels threatened or you tramp through her small property. Its more likely however to run away than attack. Does that make sense?” “There are worse things in the city than just humans in hiding. The only problem is we have seen nice looking demons and even friendly ones turning for blood lust as they seem to forget us,” She shivered and burrowed into Father’s warm fur. Leilu’s strong capable hands began to stroke along his neck ridge, along with his soft white fur. Suddenly she caught a determined look in her golden eyes and looked up defiantly, “We live because we shun all demons.” “You know, I had a very large family once. Well immediate family, though I was the only one in my generation. They are all gone now, killed and turned. Only my aunt mama has been left behind with me. They say she’s the luckiest one on this planet. But I’ve seen other older humans come in occasionally. We all call them the Old ones. We must respect them.” She nodded to accent this. Leilu moved her hand down along Fathers neck. A warm safe feeling started to well up with in her. “I have family now, though not related. Just people I live with and help look after and they …” She paused suddenly remembering. “OH NO, TOBY!!!” Suddenly she didn’t know what to do. What was to be done. “He must be so afraid and alone out there.” Standing up suddenly the ball of water falling from her hand and rolling along the ground. The pegus’ seemed to move unsteadily as she had stood up so abruptly. Fear pumping through her veins once more, a more familiar feeling that that’strand warm safe from seconds before. |

"Oh...Its to bad you can't keep a few demons around, I mean they could protect you incase one of the evil ones come by but it makes sence that youw ouldn't want them around if they all start going crazy. I hope I don't turned evil. I've always been like this, I would hate to have to hurt anyone..." She looked a little depressed. But she still kept her smile on her face. "Your home sounds so cool. Maybe one day I'll get to meet your family. Even though they arn't really related to you, I'm sure they love you very much. I only have father. He saved my life..." She reached out a hand and started to stroke his fur and he nuzzled her hand gently. Angel almost fell over when the girl bolted up but Father forced himself onto his feet and a wing flew out in front of her. He huffed at her his face in hers. Angel stepped behind her and put a hand on her shoulder. "Fathers right...you can't go back there. Its to dangerous and the marsh is riddled with water sprites now. Besides...hes probably not alive. Before we found you...there was a thick scent of blood in the air. I'm...I'm very sorry." Angel let her hand fall. Father stayed where he was. He wasn't going to let her go running off into woods and get killed after what they did to save her. If the boy was alive he would get to his sences and get back home. But it was to dangerous even for them to be in the marsh when its dark out. They would have to wait for the spirits to go back to rest in the morning. "We can look for him in the morning." Angel sate back down and pulled the small ball of water toward her and brushed off some of the dirt. She heated it up slightly again and it floated between her fingers. |

What was she going to tell Katie? She sat back down heavily though not as heavy as her heart was feeling. He might still be ok but the water girl wasn’t the only one that had smelt a lot of blood down in the pit. A normal person would cry but Leilu didn’t know how to. It wasn’t that she didn’t care, she still had that tight lump in her throat. But instead of tears her eyes spaced out. Having to move on when you loose everything, nothing is more painful than that but since everything she loved was killed or taken away she learned not to cry and now she had forgotten. She hadn’t cried when her family was killed or stolen away, she hadn’t cried when her two best friends died, she hadn’t cried when she couldn’t save the baby of one of the pregnant children, she hadn’t cried when she killed a demon who broke through their boarded up home. She could no longer cry at all. Still it ripped her up inside all the same. Lowering her eyes to the floor she spoke softly, “I still should go. I am endangering you by staying here.” ‘If you get a friend something terrible will happen to them or to those they love’ the voice in her head spoke. ‘Its too dangerous to leave now’ her common sense argued, ‘you heard the Angel girl’ ‘Then leave as soon as possible when it is light’ “But I will stay here for the night as you suggest. Thank you so much for rescuing me and for your hospitality. I wouldn’t want to make your efforts today all for nothing by going out and getting myself killed now,” Leilu said as she flopped down onto her belly. “How do you live out here so alone, the both of you. How do you live out here at all, it is so dangerous. I wish I could ….” There was a snap of a twig outside. Leilu’s ears were sharply tuned in to the sounds around her, she had developed it to survive and hide back home. That same snapping of a twig was what happens when some one silently sneaking by crunches one foot on small twig. Her dark body went tense. She closed her eyes and listened harder and prepared her body for discipline. A form of fighting when you let all feeling leave you so you are numb making you stronger as you don’t feel pain or stretching. |

Angel smiled, she was glad her new friend had decided to stay. She sate down next to her but Father stayed standing and looked out the crack in the door his ears flicking back and forth gently. "Well we only come here to sleep. We live out there. Go exploring and stuff, its just safer to sleep under a roof. Though me and father have to chase people away now and then. She looked towards the door her ears catching the sound of the twig snapping. Father sniffed the air gently and huffed his wings fluffing up making them look twice as big. Angels brow nit up. "He says the horse men are back again. Wonder whats up this time." Angel got up and went to the door and poped her head out. There were only 5 of them. They resembled centars. Father came out as well and huffed gently his front foot scrapping at the ground. "Rumors are going about that your keeping one of the originals here." Angel cocked her head. "And what buisness of me and fathers buisness of you." The one large creature stood forward. "You know it is not safe to have it here. You do know what the elders laws are." Angels face went solem. "Yes I understand..." The leader creaned his head a little bit to try and look around her. "What...what does it look like? Are...the storys true?" The seemed just as curious and their bodys twitched gently as they waited. Angel smiled, she could prove to her clan that not all the humans were evil, and she needed to show this young girl that not all the demons were evil to. When she returned home she could share the news. Angel opened the door wider. "They want to meet you." She smiled wide to the girl and stepped out of the way for her to come out. |

At first Leilu shrunk back but decided it probably wouldn’t be wise to test the patience of a demon and she could trust this Angel and her demon, right? Standing up she straightened her short skirt and tugged down her blouse which cropped just before her bellybutton where a small amber jewel hung. Taking one steady step at a time, she tried not to shake as she made her way to the door. Leilu took her place beside Angel. A dark haired girl with a dark golden skin next to a fairer beautiful girl. The creatures she was opposing looked like they were from some kind of mythology, giant horses crossed with dark humans. Only one had white hair. Not knowing what to suspect she bobbed very slightly in a bow, her feelings telling her to respect those who could hold your life in the palm of their hand and the discipline was wearing off slightly. One of the beasts seemed to step forward slightly in what may or may not have been curiosity and holding her breath she managed to keep up the courage not to move back even a millimetre. Having captured small pieces of what had just transpired leaned over and spoke in the barest of whispers so that only Angel would know what she was saying, “What’s the elders law? And why do they wish to meet me?” (sorry its not long. Bit brain dead but wish to keep this going. I like it :)) |

Angel smiled as the demons looked over her new friend. She jumped slightly at the noise because she had been watching the horse demons watching and talking together. She turned to face the girl and then frowned gently. "Your kind aren't allowed here. The elder is said to be one of the first to...well first of our kind. When the war broke out he seperated our kind with what he calls a soul out, and to keep the peace your kind are not allowed here. Though most here have never actually seen one. The elder keeps us very secluded." A cough from one of the horses made her look up again. His brow frowned as he seemed to hesitate on what he was going to say. "You'll need to get rid of her. Even if she looks harmless, she may attract, the others. The elder knows shes here... He knows you ment only good, but, if he suggests that she be taken back from wence she came. The skys are guarded tonight, but her scent would have spread to fare for her to safely travel by day." Angels look saddened. "yes sir." She took a hand and placed it on the girls shoulder. "I'm sorry, but the elder is right." Father stepped forward and faced the other horses. The ones in the back never took their eyes off the girl, as if trying to get every detail in before she would disapear. He looked at the two then put a protective wing over the two. The one horse nodded. "He will be told." then they disapeared into the forest. The one with greyish hair yelling at the other to stop staring and start running. Father looked at the girls and then towards the skys. He huffed out and then shook his head. "He says, its time to go. Before anything to nasty gets into the sky." She knew that the girl didn't like to fly so she picked her up and placed her on father jumping up behind her to grab his mane. "Just close your eyes, he says he'll be gentle. We'll take you back the city, but we can't go in to deep...your kind will kill us I'm afraid." |
