after a long long time since i've touched my datsun's engine... today it start to have some idling issue... since no time in office to dismantle the idle jets.. not to mention the torrid temperature of underground carparks... i been driving in traffic jams with idling at 500rpm... WEBER RULES!! anyway, reached home and removed the jets it's a 1 minute job to remove it.. with a strong LED light... hmmm.. the jet seems like got some thing stuck in it... remove it with fine copper wires.. then use a cable tie to poke into the idle jet hole and dig dig dig.... see some black soot on the tip of the cable tie... wipe clean and do it again... hmm.. lesser.. then do it again and no more! insert back the idle jet into the carbie. then do the same on the other side... since i'm already sweating.. and the cold night breeze is blowing... decided to clean the distributor and it's rotor too... been more than 1 year since i've done this... when using contact point, i used to do this every 2 weeks... remove the plugs and the distributor cap. hmm... the terminals are still good.. but clean it with sandpaper. take out the rotor.. bad condition. it's all black.. especially on the rotor edge. so take my sand paper and clean it... ONLY clean the EDGE. NEVER ROUND the corners or you'll have spark issue. then decided to knife edge the rotor... the part facing the terminals as it rotate.. sharper edge means smaller contact area, which means "sharper" or "stronger" sparks. so i shave the top edge at a 45 degrees angle and cut into half the height... if you're adventurous you can try 45 degrees all the way down. then REALLY knife edge. then put everything back in place.. start my engine and it idle and purrs like a kitten... COOL Really worth my 30minutes and the satisfaction from it is priceless! I REALLY LOVE my datsun!! |
