Last friday 10th of july 2009 i'm on standby from 10pm till 4am at menara LYL. so went for supper at 11pm before midnight as i'll be in the server room (super cold 10C) until 4am. so i drove my datsun with my colleague to Sri paandi at PJ. After a full supper we head back to LYL via Crystal Crown road... at the traffic light infront of crystal crown, suddenly my car died!!! DAMN!!! like someone just switched off the engine!! so bring out my tool box... check on power, alternator, .etc found the spark to be weak... so thought the coil gone... after 40minutes replacing parts, the last thing i wanted to do is to dismantle the distributor and change to contact points (incase the electronic burnt). so push it one side. then the TM people come.. parking the car one side i go continue with my work... after work and breakfast at 5am, TM people help me to tow the car to armada hotel. already too tired so decided to sleep in car while waiting for my dad to fetch me... later the afternoon, armed with a spare coil, i head down to my car and tried to swap the coil... still no go... crank crank crank but it won't start... already too tired since i didn't slept since 2 nights before... i head back to home and sleep. later went for family reunion as dead zombie... Sunday morning, ajak Ramli to join me to my car... with a set of contact point in my car, i suspect is the distributor giving problem... ramli took the whole distributor out and replaced the damn thing. since the earth wire too short, we wired a new one. YAY! start at first crank! send the car to Ramli's workshop. decided to replace the distributor with one from Honda. (who lifted my wipers??) left the car there overnight.. comes monday... at afternoon i called ramli. my car ready.. he said not distributor problem... but wiring problem!WTF!? the charging wire from alternator to battery overloaded and melt and shorted with the ground wire from the tachometer! the whole wire bundle already smoking when he tried to install the new distributor! he replaced the wire with a temporary bypass... settle! this explains a few symptom i got since 1 year ago... 1) there are times i smelled slight plastic burning smell from aircond. (burning of electrical tape from the short circuit) 2) weak battery charging voltage... at night with head lights on it'll drop to 12.1V (previously 12.6V) 3) weak throttle responds... cannot reach 150kmh. after the bypass wire, the car felt 20% faster and more torque! voltage back to normal from my volt meter!! the best part is.. raced with optra 1.8L... almost touching 160kmh with only half throttle! |

I had this same kinda problem. Car stalled, but nothing to do with electrical. After cracking my head several times, i had this feeling fuel is not reaching the carbs. I checked the filter n it was empty. But i know i had abt rm20 fuel inside. I opened the fuel cap. It was hard. While it was about to get loose, i heard hissing sound n when it became loose, i heard a loud "dduuuppp" sound. Its the suction sound. Apparently, somehow the fuel couldnt flow into the carb because of air/vaccum clogging. I just left it open, and cranked d engine. It started abt 1 min later. Went back home n cleared the breather passage...now its ok |
