For my 16th birthday, my dad took me to the Red Wings vs. Blues game. As some of you know, I'm a huge Red Wings fan so I was very excited to go. I wore my Shanahan jersey to the game.

We got down to the Savvis Center two hours before the game. We grabbed some pizza and then went into the center. We stood by the railing near the enterance where the Wings enter the ice. I got to see all the players leave the locker room and then got to stand right by the ice to see them practice.

There was only a 1/2 of glass between me and the greats: the living legend Yzerman, Shanahan, Zetterberg, Chelios... The greatest team and the number team in the league was right there in front of me.

Well, it was about time for the game to start. We originally had seat up in the nose bleed sections...two rows off the wall of the top of the center. However...only about 12,000 tickets were sold and only 8,000-9,000 people were there. So we sat down in seats right by the ice on the goal line where the Blues shoot twice and the Red Wings defend twice. We figured we'd sit there till someone came and asked us to move or asked to see our tickets. After all, the only thing they could do was to ask us to move or go back to our normal seats. Well, no one cared that we were there so we sat by the ice for the whole game!

The game itself was rather physical. A lot of slamming against the board and glass, so bad mouthing, a lot of penilties, and a few flying fists but nothing got heated enough for a fight. There might have been a fight if it wasn't for the refs being on top of everything. They know the Wings and Blues are rivals and the Wings aren't afraid to knock someone to the ice.

The first period had a few close calls and the Wings scored. They scored a second time not too far into the the third period. Then the Blues managed to get one goal (on a Powerplay) but it didn't take long for the Wings to score again. They scored a fourth time in the third period and that was it. No one else got the puck into the net.

One thing I noticed during the game was that the Wings worked as a team while the Blues didn't. The Wings would communicate to each other while on the ice and would spread themselves out over the ice in order to be ready for anything. Two players would be down by the net to help guard it since Ossgood isn't our best goalie, another would be in the center ready to get the puck if one of the two passed it, and the other two would be down by the Blues' net ready to score.

The Blues on the other hand...would have one player trying to shoot the puck into the Wings goal while it's guarded by 3 players and not a single Blues player would go down to help. Hehe! No wonder why the Blues are in last place in the league.
