Metroid Prime: Hunters Demo (DS) Publisher: Nintendo Developer: Nintendo Released on: Nov. 21, 2004 ESBR: RP First Person Shooter Metoid Prime: Hunters is the first First Person Shooter (FPS) for the Nintendo DS. When you first buy a DS, you get the demo free. The full length game is due to come out later this year. Story line- The story is still a mystery. The demo did have a thirty second trailer you can unlock but it doesn’t reveal the plot. Samus Aran is back and is ready to kick some alien butt! Too bad I don’t know why. Graphics- The graphics are well-done. The environments are detailed to some extend. They are in complete 3D and have lights that blink give you the impression of being on a space ship. They even feature lighting effects and shading. Samus is detailed too as you can see in the openingg cut scene and the trailer. The monsters and character moves smoothly. Sound- The audio is amazingly good for a handheld. It’s clean and crisp. The sound effects are very good too. You can hear Samus’ footsteps in silent rooms. You can hear the blaster’s bullets hit the enemy. The sound is solid and very good. Gameplay- There are 3 game styles to play on the demo and has five modes in which you can play it. The first mode is the Control Type S or Stylus Mode. You use the touch screen to look around, the L or R button to fire, and the X,Y, A, and B or the D-pad to move and jump. The next Control Type is DR or Dual Mode designed for right handed people. The D-pad moves the character around and the X,Y, A, and B aim. The L and R still fire. The next Control Type is DL or Dual Mirror Mode designed for left handed people. This mode is just like the DR mode but with the buttons switched around. The next Control Type is TR or Touch Shoot Mode designed for right handed people. This is probably the most difficult way to play. In this mode, the touch screen is for aim and shooting which means that every time you push down, it shoots. The D-pad moves you and the L button makes u jump. Then the last mode is Control Type TL or Touch Shoot Mirror Mode designed for left handed people. This is just like the TR mode but for left people. The X,Y, A, and B buttons move you and the R button makes you jump. Now, there are also three game styles to play. The first is called Regulator. In this mini-game, you go through and fight against three types of monsters (two types of flying green things and a spiky critter). You then fight against a boss which looks like a darker Samus. You have ten minutes to defeat the level. The second style is Survivor. In this game, you run around an area and shoot as many enemies before you die. The final game is Morph Ball. Here, you roll around in the ball form trying to follow the blue dotted path as best as you can. You have about a minute to finish. Innovation- MP: Hunters works well with the touch screen. It shows what can be done with the little screen. Replay Value- Unknown. This isn’t the final product so there’s not telling what can be found in second or more rounds of the game. As for the demo, you can try to unlock the trailer or bet a high score. You can also play multiplayer. You and up to three friends and battle against each other in the three arenas (Trooper Module, Assault Cradle, and Ancient Vestige). The Good- Just about anyone can find a comfortable way to play. There’s multiplayer and chances to gain some skill before the game is shipped. MP: Hunters is looking good. More information later. The Bad- So far the only complaint is the difficulty you have getting use to game. You’ll run out of time and fall off platforms many times before you get a hold of the controls. More information to come when the game is released later this year. |
