Title: a Sister's thoughts.
Author: Rodlox.
Pairing: Diana/Marco.
Summary: April's shock and awe, seeing her sister's life.

POV: April.
Disclaimer: I own none of the characters, except for this version of April.

Author's Note: This is the result of my Baal-muse reading the PurpleYin's remark "but she's certainly April Skouris."

"And this is my daughter," my sister tells me, her hands on the girl's shoulders, "Maia Skouris." 'Maia'? 'Maia'?? Our years at school and summercamp weren't torture enough? "Maia?" I ask, shuddering at the memory of all the taunts I'd gotten. Oh of course you wouldn't think so, you fit the stereotype. It's people like me who get the 'are you sure your name's April?' All through college, you railed on me about how easy things were for me, how tough they were for you, and not once, never even a single time, did you ever consider what things were like for me. You weren't the one asked if your name was really Artemis or Aphrodesia or some other weird thing. So I guess I can see how you'd have an easy time naming your daughter 'Maia.'

"Yes," Maia says, smiling up at me. Wait a minute here, when exactly were you born, right after graduation?

"Its the name she was born with," Diana says. Wait a minute, you don't have a weddding ring on any finger. Dad's gonna have an anyurism for sure now.

The phone rings in the kitchen, and, "I'll get it," Maia volunteers, running off, leaving the two of us alone with only the other for company. Niece of mine, that wasn't a safe policy even back when your mom and me were your age.

"So," I ask, "do I get to meet the stud who did the deed?" And does he have a brother?

I guess Maia finished talking on the phone because she hollers over to us, "Mom, Marco's on his way over," and my sister turns a shade of red I haven't seen on her in...definately in years.

"I take it that this 'Marco' is the proud papa?" I ask.

"No," Diana answers, her tongue as sharp and snapping as ever before. Yep, some things never change. "Marco's a friend of mine from work."

Uh-huh. Riight. Pull the other one, sis, it plays the national anthem. "And you just happen to be redder than your favorite allergy because...?" I can't help but ask; while I never liked the taste of beets, at least I never swelled up, sis. And glaring at me won't make any of this any less true.

"Maia's adopted," Diana says. For your sake, sis, I sure hope so. Because for all the times you bailed out of attending family reunions, your witness list probably leaves a lot to be desired.

"Right," I say. Hey, I'm her sister, I'm entitled to poke at her, at least a little. "So, does dad know about any of this?" Oh how I doubt it.

"He does," Diana says, nodding, her face once more its normal color. "He babysat Maia last week." Thou jest with me, I am certain.

the end.
author's note: yeah, so Diana hasn't exactly been entirely forthcoming. :)
