Many of you may have noticed that in the final episode of The 4400, "Mommy's Bosses," a song is used for a poignant scene involving McKenzie with a male lead in the show. What you may not know is that Jacqueline McKenzie, the series Australian star, recorded the song. And as the actor tells Australia's NineMSN, she's has always had a musical bent.

"I love the process of coming up with some lyrics, telling a story," McKenzie said in Sydney.

"It is not really singing to me. It is just like acting and being in a play. There is a journey in a song."

McKenzie, a NIDA graduate who is still probably best known for playing Russell Crowe's lover in 1992's Romper Stomper, has always wanted to be a singer and finally decided last Christmas to give it a go.

She wrote some songs and made a demo tape which she played for some of the other actors in The 4400.

She also played the demo for the show's creator and producer Scott Peters who insisted one of the songs be included in an episode.

"It is unbelievable, like a bit of a dream really," McKenzie, 37, said.

"I have provided a soundtrack for a scene that I am in which is pretty cool."

McKenzie, who is also a keen painter, isn't sure where her music will take her but is keen to take it to the next level.

"There are more songs in me," she said.

"I would love to do a musical," she said, recalling that the only time she has performed in a musical was in Oliver at high school.

"I did always want to sing growing up and I never really did, the acting took over."

Freeze! You're under arrest. You have the right to the remains of a silent attorney! If you cannot afford one, tough noogies! You can make one phone call! I recommend Trixie: 976-Triple 5-LOVE. Do you understand these rights as I have explained them to you?! Well do you, punk?!
